Your body, my choice. A question for women.

As usual…our opinions are colored by our own…limited…experiences. I know of long term very happy marriages…all based on partnerships of mutual respect. Assuming that one party is the more capable, smarter, more righteous….more entitled…is a set up for disaster. We should not be surprised about this. Women and men are not the same. That is why we call them “women” and “men”. That does not make one group superior. Both groups have talents unique to their genetics…and as individuals we also have talents unique to ourselves.
I agree, our marriage could be called a friendship and a team, each of us had strengths and knowledge in certain areas and we both benefited from them, it strengthened our bond and our respect for each other.

The title has very much to do with Roe and procreation. It is very political, and I believe it was first coined after the election and overturn of Roe, by a rightwing white supremacist, Nick Fuentes. Then others ran with the slogan, as they often do on social media.

My husband, may he rest peacefully, was always respectful of women and in favor of women's rights, along with the rights and freedoms of other minorities in the US.

I personally have zero respect for these men of a certain 'persuasion', and they disgust me. Can't believe there are men like this in our country in 2024, but they won't go away if we enable them by voting for them.

I have great respect for men, I have many of them in my circle of friends, my neighbors, my past coworkers and my family. None of them have said or agree with your title. Those men want to take this country backwards, keep women barefoot and pregnant, keep them and people of color from voting, keep gays locked in the closet. Glad I'm old and have no children, it's shameful we're going back in time instead of moving forward and thriving.
@Paco Dennis Seabreeze's post, I think, tells us all we need to know as to why; the belief that they are supreme and should have control over other groups of people who, they believe to be inferior. In this case, the target is women but, as we know, it could be any group who this movement deems to be inferior.

produced by whom ?.... no females, no births.. no births no males .. no males... and so by your way of thinking....no production of anything at all....

I never claimed that human civilization could continue indefinitely without females. My point was very clear, so I would appreciate it if you focused on what I actually wrote, rather than trying to argue against something I never said.

Of course we need both sexes. What a thought, but women are hurting like never before and reacting emotionally. In time I'm sure they will realize that not every man is so judgemental. Many are great, my BF is a prize example or we would never be together. I'm lucky.

Dear S.F. members/ friends, I began this thread because my mother lives alone and is in her nineties and this past week she was verbally assaulted by a man and has been upset ever since.. I know this extreme misogynistic rhetoric is a reality in our present environment so I was curious how other women of my generation would react. It's interesting.

Poor Chics' mother..:(. what did this man say ?.. does he lives where she lives ?.. I hope she can get over it .. it would be horrible to have lived so long and allow some upstart to affect her mood..

I am not sure why any gender should have to disappear off the face of the earth or why anyone would wish it but, I am surprised that you seem to think that there would be no gasoline, no car repairs, no airlines, no electricity, no produce in supermarkets, no maintenance and no cell phones. Women work in industry; they fly planes, become mechanics and electricians, drive delivery vehicles, are employed in all trades and even work in the mobile phone industry. It's amazing really 🤷‍♀️

The reality is that the number of women with the specific mechanical and technical skills required to keep civilization running—producing gasoline, maintaining infrastructure, repairing vehicles, and so on—would be too limited to sustain these systems effectively on their own. Also, be advised that I never suggested that any gender should have to disappear off the face of the earth or that I wished it, so please stay focused on what I actually wrote.

True.

Yes ...... please.

Perhaps we still don't have the entire story.

It seems unlikely that some guy just ran up on a 90+ year old lady barking at her. Possible, I suppose.

Chic, that’s horrible. I feel bad for your mom. My grandma used to like to walk to the corner grocery store in her late 80’s when she wanted to buy something spur of the moment. It gave her some freedom.

One day a group of teen boys knocked her down and stole her purse. She was afraid to leave her home alone after that. They took away one of her few pleasures left.

My granny who was 72 at the time.. back 50 years ago.. she was much older in her ways than 72 year olds are today ... lived alone, and one day answered the door , and a bunch of yobs burst in to rob her... They hit her over the head with one of the brass candlesticks that they were stealing from her.

she said she was begging them, not to hurt her and to take whatever they wanted.

She didn't have anything, god alone knows what made them think she did.. but they were never caught...

It was sad for her. She likes to take the bus to the store. She's very independent. BF and I help her with food, and stuff she might need as do brother and SIL but she took the bus to the store to socialize and had a fight with a man who gave her a hard time when he broke the rules of taking the bus to the store. She confronted him and he retaliated verbally. She is okay physically. I wish I could afford to buy her a car. She still drives. This way she could get out and socialize safely. What is the matter with people?

My God. That's terrible, Hols.
:devilish:

If all the human males suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth your quality of life would go down like a Stuka in a nosedive. On the other hand, if all the human females suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth, gasoline would still be produced and available, motor vehicles would still be getting repaired, commercial airlines would still be operating, electricity would still be produced, supermarkets would still have their shelves stocked with food, cities would still be maintained, and cell phones would still work. And while it's true that we human males are not Gods, you'll have to admit we are the next best thing. :)
For a while our quality of life might go down as we regrouped and filled personnel holes, but women are fully capable of learning and doing for themselves. There are millions of abandoned wives who've had exactly that experience.

As for patting yourself on the back, keep in mind that women mostly leave because their significant other has given them little choice. We don't want to be on our own any more than most men do. Arrogance does little to fix the problem and mostly sets women's teeth on edge.

That’s a much worse story. Anyone that hurts a senior is soulless.

While it’s true that women are resourceful and capable of adapting to challenging circumstances, suggesting that women could fully replicate the current standard of living without men overlooks the practical realities of society. Fields such as heavy construction, engineering, energy production, and transportation remain heavily reliant on male-dominated labor. The absence of men would create immediate and severe workforce shortages in these critical areas, leading to a significant and likely prolonged decline in quality of life. Furthermore, the example of abandoned wives adapting to their circumstances is not entirely analogous. These women still lived in a world where men existed, maintaining infrastructure, building systems, and contributing to essential sectors that allowed society to function. They were not navigating a reality devoid of men entirely, and their ability to adapt was supported by male contributions that continued to underpin the society they lived in.

As for patting yourself on the back, keep in mind that women mostly leave because their significant other has given them little choice. We don't want to be on our own any more than most men do. Arrogance does little to fix the problem and mostly sets women's teeth on edge.

I don't know why you're telling me this because it has absolutely nothing to do with what I've written. My original point was about the standard of living and the role men play in maintaining modern society. What you’ve written here is addressing something entirely different. So, if you want to respond to what I actually wrote, I’m happy to have that discussion. But let’s stay focused on the topic at hand rather than straying into unrelated arguments.
