I just wasn't keeping up with it, so. She's very good, pleasant person & charges a reasonable {IMO} $25.00 p/hour.

Today was her second time, and we were talking while she was here. She is a certified nurse and used to work in a nursing home.

I asked her why she switched jobs ...... she told me some stories about how some of here coworkers would mistreat the patients/residents . She said it just got to the point that she just couldn't be around it all. When she spoke out against a couple of them ...... she was theatened . She was going to go into regular nursing, but she instead now does in-home nursing and cleaning. Her and her sister work together, and i am about the last new customer / client they are taking on.

Glad i found her.

Wow £25 per hour ?... is that the normal going rate there for a cleaner . ...2hours cleaning is going to cost you $50...
The average rate here is between £10 and £15 per hour, and £20 if hiring through an agency

Sounds great, I agree that the rate sounds fair for a job with no benefits.

Maybe with time she can become a gal friday to help with running errands, appointments, shopping, decluttering, etc...

She says she does do all that, and if I want .... she will cook for a few days ahead then all I need do is heat it up. I still like to prepare 'short' meals on my own ...... but that may change.

She sounds perfect, I hope that it works for both of you.

It’s a big positive step to have someone come in on a regular basis to keep an eye on you and act as a sounding board when you need a little assistance or advice.

Well ..... that may be a little too deep to soon but .......... I will say she is very easy to talk to, and IMO speaks with common sence.

I tried to find a house cleaner here, and it cost a whopping $50 an hour. She said she would even bathe my dog. Well, guess what, I don't need a dog bather. I haven't been able to find another cleaner. My daughter paid a house cleaner $300 to clean her studio apartment when she moved out. He did a great job, but $300 for a couple hours work???

Heck, if I could, I'd be a house cleaner for $50/hour. Work 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, and make $50K a year. BTW, I think (but do not know) that the person who recommended the cleaner to me told her to charge me a lot of money because at the time, I had money.

She says about one more day to get it caught up ........ then she's thinking about every two weeks, to keep it up.....should be around $35-40 .... per.

We'll see how it goes.
She could have worked more slowly and told you that she would need to come weekly, but she didn't. She sounds trustworthy to me. And if she's a great cook, why not? First thing I'm going to do is hire a cook when I win Powerball! (I play the lottery about once every 5 years, I'm in for a long wait.)

...but did she charge for one hour or an hour and a half..?

Hopefully an hour and a half. I used to own a maid service, and that's what we did. I was one of the owners and one of the maids.
well at £25 an hour that makes an expensive 90 minute clean..almost $40 ... ..and it's not possible to get everything clean in 90 minutes, so I suspect before long we'll hear that RGB will be getting informed that she'll need 'more hours''...

That would be considered a normal, and a good fair minimum price, here as well ($25. per hour)
(at least that much or easily more per hour, and some do not work fast)

A
nd that is what we'd have to pay, if needed and desperate. Many of us cannot afford it, but we would not be able to find anyone for any less than that.
In addition, here, there is always a minimum of hours or they don't come, such as at least 2 hour stints. Or longer.

I believe it's well worth it, for anyone who can afford it.

When I was still working as a cleaning fairy, I changed from charging by the hour to charging a flat fee. It depended on the size of the house. Most of the houses I cleaned were $100, there were a couple that were small for which I charged $50-$75. It was to my benefit not to dawdle. A $100 house was usually 3 or 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and took about 4 hours. Bigger than that, the cost went up. I had one that was 5 bedrooms 5.5 baths, that place was 5000sf! $200 and took 6-7 hours.

Whenever I had a call from a potential new client, I'd do a walk-around first to determine whether it was a house that I could (or would!) clean. Sometimes the homeowner and I just didn't click. I turned those down. Sometimes the house was one I just didn't want to bother with...for instance, one that was on five levels. I also declined with polite thanks if it was more than 5 miles from home.

Keep in mind that it's been 4 or 5 years since I stopped being a cleaning fairy. Prices have probably gone up since then.

There's a house cleaning company in my area. They charge $110/visit. I was using them twice a month. They were supposed to send two people, but they were having a hard time finding employees, who stayed more than a week. So only one showed up. She gave my place a quick run through and out the door. For the money i was paying them, I wanted clean, not a quickly wipe down. So I got off my butt, and I'm the fulltime cleaning lady.
BTW, in my rural, very middleclass neighborhood, ain't nobody coming to your house for no lousy $25/hr.

Enjoy your life while you can and hang the cost rjp. If you can afford it, do it and that leaves you time to do things you really like. I don't do housework, we pay for cleaning and gardening.
