They're still having those girl beauty pageants.

I thought these beauty pageants for girls was passe. I'm not a girl, and I've never been to one of the beauty pageants, and obviously never participated in one. But seeing these kids all dressed up in something like the Disney version of a hooker. I feel unconfotablebeauty pagents.jpg I feel uncomfotable.

I've been to two of these, always because someone took me there. They are strange events, and I found myself wondering what the point of it was. Maybe it's just what it is: Dress your little girl up in adult night club attire and put her on display. Then vote on who's the best.

I find hypersexualising children immensely disturbing. As for promiscuity, to be fair, young guys are also sexually active.

Yes they are but ....generally speaking the "young guys" don't ruin their lives because of it. {rape being the exception]. Young mothers are "saddled" with their children for what 18-20 years or more . That has a negative effect on employment , future relationships, etc, & so-on. Even an apartment for a young single mother is more costly .

Or ...... they need to make the abortion decision.

Could it be past beauty queen mothers re-living their peak .... through their daughters ?? think {Jon Benet Ramsey} or fat ugly mothers living vicariously through them ?
As I said, I've been to two. One of them was exactly this. I was dating a single mother and beauty queen, who put her daughter up on stage. Not that it matters, but that relationship didn't last long. I won't go into details.

The only one I went to was in Houma, Louisiana a small town Cajun place. My young cousin was one of the participants, still can't imagine what my aunt and uncle were thinking. The Cajun audience made it a bit of a raucous and fun affair, but when my cousin won nothing she was really disappointed. Made her feel real bad, for really nothing....

Don't ever plan to go to another, no matter who is in it or where. I'd be happy if they just went away.

My goodness, why on earth is it necessary to trash women’s appearance? So misogynistic. Fat shaming, and implying that certain mothers are ugly according to some personal barometer of what constitutes an acceptable appearance. Yikes. I yearn for a day when people no longer feel the need to perpetuate such hideous stereotypes.

I agree with above posters about some moms using child to re-live or rewrite the ending as they did not go as far etc.
I also agree it is a sick notion that does put these kids on display in a sexual way...... This has never been cute to me but a start down a dangerous path......
defeat must be devastating for these little ones ......and learned to be painted up like a "disney Hooker" must be terrible for their delicate skin as well.
In the rehashing of jon benet case they have looked at a couple of creeps that may have been infatuated with her..... i honestly think it was someone in family but if even a chance some pedophile had her on his radar .......it was because of these pageants.

Well ....... ya need to see the truth, that being to men your opinion on other women really doesn't matter. In the eye of men, there are indeed fat ugly women, just as I am sure that to women , there are fat ugly men . It is [whether or not you agree] the number one reason men & women meet ....... psyhsical attraction.

If I am not permitted to acknowledge a fat ugly one ....., then I should not be permitted to acknowledge a beautiful one ........ Which of course is the whole purpose of "beauty" pageants .

Now if it makes your day to scold me for my choice of words ........ please enjoy your day. It will not however change fact.

I'm one who thinks little girls should enjoy their childhood, outside actives, swing sets ,play dates with their peers.
If mothers want something extra for daughters to do there are dance classes, swim lessons, church camps.

Most local library's have story hour & other things for the young people.

Bottom line the girls are PEOPLE,,, Not Barbie dolls!

I'm okay with adults choosing for themselves to be in pageants
but it's very disturbing to see mothers push their young girls into focusing so intensely
on beauty as the judge of their worth. Everyone of them will experience being
less beautiful on the outside someday in the future...and then what?
And what about the "losers"

Who are these young girls dressing up for? Their Mothers or judges? No that is not it. Men have been dressing women with the bells and whistles for their own sexual satisfaction, and that is how costumes are used in these pageants. All for men's pleasure. How can women in this day and age be so naive as to fall into dressing up to please and WIN for men's fantasies?

Same way in which they fall into dressing up to get the modeling assignment, or the part in the movie, etc. It is our culture ...... Without her figure , we likely would have never heard of Marylyn Monroe . She was never known for her intellect , or her singing talent , or even her acting talent. She was known for her "boobs" And as long as she was paid nicely for them , she was fine with it. And her suitors were proud to have her on their arm.

It's like advertising for pedophiles, IMO. And that's just the beginning of my opinion.

What is it teaching a very young child about being a female? Not something I'd want my daughter to learn, that's for sure!

Or, if they want the baby, they can take the father to court to get child support. I used to warn my daughter's boyfriends that child support is costly and lasts for at least 18 years. I'd also point out that I and my first cousin have male triplets. That's three times the child support, I'd say.

These were private conversations when my daughter was in high school. She doesn't know about it to this day. :)
