School shooting in Nashville!!

Agreed. And that's a good question. Could this individual hold a job? Some people literally can't.

Does any of this really matter ?? IMO, no. There will very likely be [sadly] another. If before the tragedy , they display the same 'lifestyle' .... will the parents/family call any of the authority offices ? .... No.

I know one family , that has one laggard out of three grand-children . She lives in a free house , her heat bills etc , are paid , etc and so-on. Does any of that mean she may someday do something tragic ? No but ... My pointis the family continues to just 'carry' her @ 28-29 years of age.

I don't get it but .... there it is.

Unfortunately, too many of the guns in the US get smuggled into Canada, it seems that every time there is a mass shooting in the US the guns were legally purchased. Here if there is a shooting too often the gun was smuggled in from the US.
The weapons most likely to be used against me or my family can be gotten on the street. Many of those were originally smuggled into the country, some of them winding up in a pawn shop after being used in a crime, others getting passed down from a major drug dealer to his henchmen on the street, or they were stolen from a legal owner. And some of those eventually wind up in a pawn shop as well....or the nearest body of water.

What I'm getting at here is that it's the local armed thief I'm most likely to have to protect myself against, and they're everywhere and there's a lot of them. And street guns get traded between gangs and thugs every day. I occasionally saw that happening right out in the open in my old neighborhood, an area where there was no police presence at all except when someone called 911.

So that's slightly off-topic, but it's why most gun owners own guns. Especially urban gun owners.

Waukesha, Wisconsin - 5 dead, 40 injured, attacker used an SUV.

Oklahoma City - 168 dead, (19 of whom were children) - fertilizer & fuel oil.

I'm afraid if there's an unshaken belief Shangri-la can be obtained by banning weapons that, in one form or another, have been around for about 1,000 years, rather than addressing the 'root cause' in the mistaken belief of "No guns, no killings", and that potential perpetrators will just say "Oh well, I'll volunteer at an animal shelter instead", reality will be a shocker.
The statistics tell a different story.

I see a lot of younger people in her age bracket 25-30 with a really bad attitude in general. I don't think it was the virus/lockdowns either. They literally hang around all day doing drugs, playing games etc. Their attitude is that of an angry person. By mid 20s most are out of that teenage rebel phase, don't give two hoots about their early school years because they are out, literally out of the house living life, working, continuing education etc. But others hang around like someone owes them something.
Perhaps they recognize how screwed they are.

They'll probably never be able to afford a house, considering how expensive they are any more. College used to be a route to the American dream, but now college is so expensive, kids are graduating with 100s of thousands of dollars of debt. At the same time, many careers are going to be made obsolete by AI, so there's that. So why not just stay at home doing drugs and playing games?

Timothy McVeigh did a lot of planning and traveled all over the country to get the supplies he needed to blow up the OK City building. With an AR-15, all it takes is a drive to the local gun shop and bam! You're an instant killing machine!

"Religious nuts." 3 senior citizens and 3 young children dead in a Christian school. It is not a leap to call it a hate crime. There is too much hatred, even here on this forum.

Eradicate the hatred from the human heart and you won't have to worry about the guns.

Btw, the mother of the shooter is now being characterized as an online gun control activist, yet her offspring had 7 guns. Irony or rebellion?

As to the comments from around the world, I will just say that I'm happy you are there too and I have no ill will because you think you have the answers, but I don't consider your comments on this topic. It's nice to have an opportunity to feel superior but everyone knows that your countries also have problems and I hope you will overcome them.

Have a great day!
Of course other English speaking countries have problems. In Australia the main social problems are racism, domestic violence and the gambling industry. It is not easy to tackle any of these problems but the first step is to acknowledge the problem, then use the laws to deal with them.

We dealt with the gun problem in 1996 after the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania. Uniform firearms legislation was adopted in every state. Guns are not banned but they are well regulated now. Military style weapons are not allowed in civilian hands.

My sister works at Macy's in their jewelry dept; her "dream job." She quit her job at an insurance company to work at Macy's.

Anyway, she was told last week that they're closing. Sales are good but profits are way down, mainly due to theft throughout all their stores. All employees except for upper management will be scheduled for only 20 hours a week until Macy's is done setting up their online shop. Then, everyone will be let go....probably before the winter holidays, when thefts are highest.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the shooter's anger towards religious institutions (if that was her motivation) but anti-trans legislation had reached the governor's desk in the neighboring state of Kentucky. The governor vetoed it, but the religious legislators overrode his veto today. Obviously, the shooter wouldn't have known that it would be overridden, but the legislation itself might have put her over the edge. We may find out if the manifesto gets released...

actually, I just Googled it and the FBI is going to release the manifesto after they analyze it.

I did mention this in a previous post. There appears to have been some enabling or denial on the parts of the parents. Does the person you mentioned have a history of owning guns.

No, the employment in its self doesn't matter. But this is potentially someone who could not function in society. I remember what a mess I was at 18 after an abusive and isolated childhood. But I could keep a job, even if I felt like I couldn't relate to anyone and didn't fit in. I could still do what a job required. I was able to follow rules and work.

The ironic thing about this murderous rampage is if the now shot dead psycho did this because of society's rejection and harassment of psycho's gender lifestyle, psycho's revenge action is certain to make psycho's causes even less acceptable to society which seems to be the case as advocates on their web communities seem to be frantic in distancing themselves from what psycho did. And that tends to make dead psycho out to be stupid.

Uh....except for one glaring omission: Criminals have all kinds of guns, including assault weapons.
That's why decent law-abiding people need them, too.
I won't try to defend myself or my loved ones with anything less than a criminal has.
As a law-abiding citizen, I deserve and am entitled to all the edge I can get.
When it comes to my loved ones, anyone else's opinion is completely irrelevant.
@win231 what do you think we should do, if anything, to reduce the rate of homicides in the US? Would some form of gun control make sense to you? Or something else?

If I might jump in here. One sure way to reduce homicide rates would be to keep criminals locked away. Can't count the number of times I'll hear of some murder and most of the time, it's a career criminal doing the crime. Want to lower crime? Keep criminals locked up. Seems so simple.
I'm old enough to remember the 3 strikes and you're gone law. What ever happened to that?
We will never be able to stop every crazy from committing a heinous crime, but I'm pretty sure we could lower the number of homicides if judges and DA's would take their job seriously and not let agenda's cloud their judgement.

I've had trouble holding jobs, but I've always supported myself. It was either that or become homeless.
