prepped miniature quesadillas
1st. pic melted left over sharp cheddar, provolone, mozzarella, parmesan cheese. Used the small pot to get the round shape for the home made tortillas.
2nd. pic rolled ready to pan fry.
3rd. finished quesadillas
I'll freeze those to use when we want a quick lunch of soup & quesadillas

Can use some opinions: DD just turned 40. Her weekends have been jammed so we haven't yet celebrated her b-day, but will soon. She and DH earn enough to buy what they need and want. The last thing I want to do is fill her house with "stuff" that she has to dust or find a place to stash, or worse yet, doesn't much like but holds onto for fear of hurting our feelings. She has plenty of jewelry that she mostly doesn't wear anyway.

She's a teacher who dresses nicely every day so I was thinking about giving her some cash to buy some new clothes for her professional wardrobe. Or to buy whatever she fancies. Money for her to spend on herself however she chooses.

What do you think?

My daughter is the same, very good income, nice car , designer clothes.. etc.. and she had all those things when she had her 40th birthday when she was still living in Spain , so I gave her 3 free flights back to the UK whenever she chose to travel... perhaps you could do something similar Star... :)

I haven't read all of the posts yet, so perhaps you've already gotten excellent replies from the other posters, or thought of something yourself, that is perfect for your DD, @StarSong

But, my idea, is to think if there is something small yet obviously personally picked for her by you, that only you might know she would like, but might not likely get for herself;
such as a small bouquet of a favorite flower of hers from years ago, or a type of small clothing item that only you would know is a fun favorite of hers, such as funky socks, or a top.
Some reminder that shows a glimpse of the unique relationship that you and she have shared for so long.

Thinking back, I always appreciated when my mom gave me cash gifts.

I'd love for DD to indulge in something lovely and luxurious. Maybe a cashmere sweater or something.

I Was speaking to my sister this morning and we were talking about our older brother who is no longer with us. Many years ago on a business trip, he met Adrienne Barbeau. He went crazy even though he was married. A lot went on with their so-called visit. It cracked us both up remembering what he told us.

I'm having a good "first Sunday not at the rink" day!!! So far, I've been busy taking care of misc this & that's, that have been accumulating around the house.

Oh, and actually, I lied.....I will be at the rink for one more Sunday (9-24). This is a party that our friends are having, and they always invite us. Dio will still deejay, but they always keep it easy, so that he can enjoy the party. Also, they cater in food, so I do not need to work in the snack bar. I might help to clean up afterwards (maybe), but again, they just want us to have a good time at their party.
 
Got home from work five hours ago, and I'm still resting. I haven't even been outside yet. That shift wore me, as we say in the South, slap out!

Sir has pneumonia.



So. Did it occur to anybody to borrow a baker or two from other stores? Oh, hell to the no. Geez. Paying to borrow another baker or two would cost money and affect management bonuses. Can't have that.

Instead they left TL to work alone. She's not a baker; she's a cake decorator. She did what she could, but it wasn't near enough. She was off today, I think. At least she wasn't there by the time I left at 11.

I'll probably go in tomorrow morning for a couple of hours.

No idea how long Sir will be gone. I had pneumonia way back in the way back...it took six weeks to recover enough to feel human again.

Sigh.

Maybe, but would rather she chose something herself. Not sure if she's even into cashmere - that example just sprang to mind. For all I know she's secretly yearning for some bicycle attachments, or silk pajamas, or a nice handbag, or who-knows-what, but can't (in her own mind) justify the cost.

Pretty sure I'll end up putting the cash in her birthday card with a note that we want her to use it for a personal indulgence.

As my grandmother used to say, cash is always the right size and the right color, and is light to carry.

I think a good book and get her a room at a nice hotel for a Saturday night. Time away is what she needs, bubble baths, quiet and room service!!
 
Well, not a good day! Wake up, throw up, migraine attack. We had some thunder and rain last night. Felt fine when I laid down about 6AM. I woke okay but as soon as I was on my feet the pain started, went to pee but had to grab the trash can in my lap, throwing up.

The dogs freak out, I could not leave the bathroom and one of them had an accident in the bedroom. It was my fault as I could not get to the back door to let them out.
 
Yesterday we drove fifty miles to the far west side of Dorset, Bridport to be precise, to The Hat Festival. What a wacky fun day. It was a mix of traders, bands and hundreds, probably thousands of hat wearing festival goers.

The afternoon highlight was the best dressed competition. My lady got a touch of stage fright so we never took part in that, good to watch though.

We enjoyed a salad with a cold drink in the evening before dancing away, until well past ten o'clock.
 
Today we were up to go to church, which we did in our old MG, From the church we drove to Christchurch where we took part in the "Classics on the Quay event. My lady still in her hat, attracted many a request for a photo. There was an amazing array of cars, shining in the glorious sunshine.

We left Christchurch around five o'clock and I treated my lady to late lunch/evening dinner at a former railway station, converted into a rather pleasant watering hole. It might have been rude to photograph the diners so here's a few photos from the restaurant's website. Incidently, two of the dining areas are converted railway carriages.
