Have a great trip, @jujube and post pics!I finally got packed for the trip to Mexico City tomorrow morning. I'm only taking a carry-on, so it involved putting things in, taking things out, rinse and repeat.
Do I need that shirt? Yes, I do. No, I don't. Put it in and take it out.
I'm a terrible packer.
My husband could never get the pronunciation of Worcester. It was hilarious! In Massachusetts we pronounce it 'Wooster.' Do you?Off to Worcester![]()
Is it any wonder that non-English speakers have to be praised for learning our wretched language. I used wretched deliberately because the letter "w" is silent. In Brit speak, the term Wooster is used for Worcester. Warwick is pronounced Worrick and so on. Tsunami must have those foreigners baffled, then there's the silent "P" as in psychology, psychiatry, psyche, psychotic or pseudo. But the one that really causes headaches is the word, "Sword." Why is the w silent in sword but not sworn? Speaking of profanities, why is it that foreigners learn to swear in English so very quickly? My husband could never get the pronunciation of Worcester. Yes. I do, indeed! It may have something to do with DH having lived there for many years...My husband could never get the pronunciation of Worcester. It was hilarious! In Massachusetts we pronounce it 'Wooster.' Do you?
I was watching a reality show last night.. The cast in it were not English... and they were stone cold sober, middle class in their late 20's when they arrived in Croatia, and the very first thing and only thing they asked of the Croatian cab driver was how do they swear in his language ... I thought that was very odd... but perhaps that's how they learn ...Is it any wonder that non-English speakers have to be praised for learning our wretched language. Had a Russian driver who claimed to not know English. He took me way out of my way and he kept insisting in Russian he knew no English. Yet, when I said "F you" he not only understood, but began cursing me back in "perfect" English!Speaking of profanities, why is it that foreigners learn to swear in English so very quickly?

I watched the same reality show. I also thought it was odd to ask about curse words. Sunday night is my favorite night for watching tv…love, love, love all the silly reality shows. That wouldn't appeal to her in the slightest.I think a good book and get her a room at a nice hotel for a Saturday night. Time away is what she needs, bubble baths, quiet and room service!!
