What I couldn't get this week shopping

@RadishRose Concerning the Land o lakes box.
I can't believe I'm going to share this but it is a funny memory of my late brother.
He would trim the two sides and bottom of the butter box she is holding so it opened like a door.
Then he trimmed her knees off and taped them to the inside of the box so that when you opened the door at her chest it looked like she was exposing her boobs.
I thought it was hilarious and shared the joke with many of my twelve year old friends who thought it was the best joke.
Sorry Native American Lady. I'm hoping she'd find the humor but I doubt it.

I got mad when they removed the Indian woman from the box! I loved that label and used to think she was a Princess when I was little.

Politics, always politics. Honorable people caving under threat of retaliation every day.

Back to shopping:

Since this thread was opened mid-2020 - mostly in response to pandemic shortages - I'm happy to report that for the first time since late 2020, the wholesale apparel supply chain appears to be fully flowing again.

For the past 2-1/2 years I've mentioned (complained?) about periods where it took months to get certain styles, colors and sizes of uniform basics (polos and tee shirts included). All have been in full stock at distributors' warehouses this spring/summer. A welcome relief.

Not sure if this is a canary in the coal mine that applies to most other industries, but I'm taking it as a positive sign that supply chain issues are being resolved.

No nectarines and the peaches and plums available looked pretty sorry, so I consoled myself with grapes. I guess Monday isn't a good day to shop after the weekend rush. I had to go to town anyway for a dental checkup. More store brand ice cream in the freezer case, but not really the flavors I wanted (peanut butter and cookie dough). No one has after bath body powder outside of baby powder or liquid antacid.

I'm finding Monday to be a good day to shop as long as I wait until late morning so they've had time to stock. I saw peaches going fast at Aldi.

No more Hunt's catsup? I can't find it..
I did a product search on 2 local grocery store's web pages and they didn't list Hunt's either - just Heinz and store brand. I did find this on a search:

Why is there a ketchup shortage?

Catastrophic drought conditions in California are denying farmers the rain water needed to grow tomatoes, which is causing the price of items such as ketchup, salsa, and spaghetti sauce to surge.

My candies. The WM brand Fruit Slices and other similar products shelves have been empty for a week. There were lots of other empty shelves throughout the store, just not things that I really needed.

The local Dollar General is still horribly under-stocked - no calcium supplement gel caps, any brand of aftershave, or snack sized food storage bags.

There were bags of Green Giant broccoli florets in the grocery, but they looked like they've been in the cooler for at least a week - brown & slimy, so I didn't get any.

Deb aren't you concerned about buying supplements from the Dollar store...?

While most dollar stores do take the quality of the products seriously, it's an unfortunate fact that you may find some products that are worse, if not totally inferior, to their more name-brand counterparts. This can sometimes be the case for food, toys, and even vitamins. Consumer Reports, while sympathetic to the dollar store's attempts to sell cheap, wholesome products, recommended that you skip over the vitamins the next time you're there. While testing off-brand multivitamins, it was discovered that some had less nutrients than what was advertised on the labels.

It isn't just vitamin supplements you should be wary of the next time you're at your local dollar store. Over-the-counter drugs such as minor pain relievers may seem like a good deal for only a few dollars, but they may not be as helpful to your cold as you may think. In 2019, the FDA issued a warning letter to Dollar Tree regarding the sale of tainted over-the-counter medicine and health care items received from overseas manufacturers. Although Dollar Tree began immediate cooperation with the FDA regarding this matter (via CNN), it still raises the uncomfortable question of just what exactly is in that cheap bottle of migraine medicine you may have picked up.

Dollar stores, in general, are doing their best to appear clean and reputable while providing cheap and safe goods for their customers. But if you want medicine, it's best to go to a pharmacy just in case.

It is certainly one thing to purchase paper bags, or Christmas Wrapping Paper, Shaving Cream, Soaps, and that sort of thing at the Dollar Stores, but when it comes to buying things like Medications, Chips and other food and drinks in my honest opinion those should be purchased at a grocery store or supplement vitamin store.

Absolutely right. I get mine from the Health food shop

I only hit a dollar store (99¢ Only) a few times a year. There's one near my dentist so I often drop in after a cleaning. My list usually includes toothpaste (Pepsodent), dry beans (same brands as in the grocery store), and some storage containers if I happen to need them.

I tend to wander the whole store to see if anything else piques my interest, but rarely buy because I don't want to add to my clutter.
