The Olympic used to be notorious for the most rigid drug and hormone testing standards and yet they are letting test failures compete?

Seeing some of the controversy surrounding the Paris Olympics such as the Opening, Men competing against women, water contamination, and the list keeps growing; why is that topic open for discussion and the events surrounding an attempted assassination of a public personality is taboo. I just don't get it.

@TennVet , if you're only interested in discussing the tabloid view of the Olympics why don't you start a thread on that? I started this thread to focus on sports, and not nitpick at all the dreary little negatives that some media focuses on.

I didn't threads had pride of authorship rules.
Nobody said anything about rules, I just suggested that you show a little common courtesy and respect towards a fellow person and start your own thread, rather than try to inject your unhappiness into this one.

With you being from the Bible Belt, I would assume(rightly or wrongly) that you may have heard of the Golden Rule:

"The "Golden Rule" was proclaimed by Jesus of Nazareth during his Sermon on the Mount and described by him as the second great commandment. The common English phrasing is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

It's a good rule to live by, both in Real Life and in online interactions.

You've been confrontational and butting heads with people of late. Is everything okay on the home front?
Well @Beezer that is a bit perplexing, but then you have a history of saying perplexing things.

So, I guess we're not going to talk about "sports"(the actual thread topic) today, that's fine. I don't see any events on the TV schedule that interest me.

What would YOU like to talk about, @Beezer?

(the actual thread topic)
Relax. Threads can go off on all kinds of tangents. I start threads talking about one subject, and sometimes they devolve into totally different beasts. It's just the nature of it all. No need to get all in a huff about it.

I see Canada is in 9th place in the medal standings! Pretty good for a Northern country, eh?

I think we generally achieve more medals in the Winter Olympics...because of our climate.

I was wondering about France being so high up in the medal count and was there cheating by the judges for the hosting country. But I looked at the 2020 results and France was 8th overall. So probably things are mostly fair.

Chinese Olympians, at least the divers, move away from their families for 3 years and train 12 hours a day. The country places very high importance on winning.
There are professional athletes that won't train like that. They'd be crying union, agent or lawyer if told to train like that.

I'm sure those have more than plenty of incentive and motivation to train like that.
