Looked it up…. The process of removing corn kernels from cobs is called shelling.

Also, here in the south (and maybe other parts of the country) it is popular to cream corn off the cob for that tasty dish.
Okay, we were shelling on the porch yesterday.
Scraping (the kernels off)?
Dekernelize? :ROFLMAO:
Hmm... but I think I'll adopt dekernelize. 🤔It's got a ring of technical sophistication.

I sort of fell asleep while watching the news and woke up an hour later. Oops.

The news was all about another school shooting in our metro area. Four kids dead. Nine wounded. Shooter in custody. But we don't need no new/better/more restrictive gun laws🙄

I had a panic attack associated with garden center withdrawal. First responder (DD) said we'll go around 4.

ETA: The school shooter is 14 years old. 14! In 9th grade. A child.

There are about 2000 students enrolled in that school. One 14-year-old kid has killed four people, injured nine others, and traumatized the rest of the students and their families. Geez. This is what we've become.

One more wakeup and my chair will be here.

I was just reading that story. What a heartache! I feel so frustrated and helpless. It seems like these school shootings (and shootings in other public places) get more and more common. I feel like I'm getting desensitized to these stories, and that makes me sad, too.😥

Went to Costco Business Center early this morning (it opens at 7 AM instead of 10 like regular Costco). Dropped $141 and got all I needed from there. And then some.

Tomorrow or the next day I'll hit the produce store early. 105° right now and it's only 2:30 PM, so it looks like we'll hit that 106° or possibly higher. Yuk.

Found next to nothing in the garden centers...we went to both of them. Even the Clarence shelves yielded nothing worth spending perfectly good money on.

I did get two bright red coneflower plants, two pink guara and five red dianthus. The coneflowers and dianthus are for color in one of the beds that has mostly pastel and white flowers.

The guara are for the expanded part of the garden where the knockout roses died and had to be dug up. I'm also going to plant gladiolus and Mexican petunias there in the spring.

BTW, all of these flowers are perennials.

I've grown to love Mexican petunias. I have them in places where nothing else would grow and they fill in wonderfully without being too invasive.

My very favourite film of all time is an old B&W movie from the 1945 called Brief Encounter, starring Celia Johnston...

Today I saw that brief encounter was on TV..so without checking, I turned it on..only to find that it was the worst version of any film I've ever seen.

It starred Sophia Loren and Richard Burton.. made in the 70's.. director was Carlo Ponti, a film producer who was married to Sophia..

They had dubbed it in Italian, and then redubbed it in English, you've never seen anything like this it absolutely appalling.. They should have been sued lol

When we walk after 8, it’s now pitch black. Everyone we encounter comments on our flashing lights. It’s a strap with green lights on the front and back. One lady pulled her car around the block to ask where we got them. They’re just what she needs when riding on her wheelchair scooter.

Here flashing green lights mean "snowplow."

Brief Encounter is my all_time favorite too. A friend viewed the new version and he also found it awful. I'm not going to bother watching it but I might out of curiousity. Lol

We have a neighbor that goes and gets produce at what I'm thinking is a type of food bank. She's often times bringing me sweet potatoes, eggplant, papaya, which I froze in chunks. Similar things.
One time I questioned that isn't this food for the needy. She said that it's food that will be thrown out if someone doesn't take it.
I appreciate it, I do, so I left it alone.
Yesterday she brought all the neighbors surrounding her huge bags of spinach (2 1/2 lb bags), three huge stalks of celery, and big bags of Romaine. She said they waited three hours in line and they were giving out crates of food. The wait in line tells me there are people needing this food.
What would you think about this? NC is a farming state so there is a lot of produce and I don't like food waste. I somehow feel weird though, taking it if someone who needs it isn't getting it.
I asked her about that the first time she brought some. She insists it will get thrown out so I'll believe her.
I threw the spinach in the freezer, prepped the lettuce, and will make celery powder.

Morning all folks!!! It is coolish at 58F here, high around 90 tho,
with chance of rain today, which we need....usual aches n pains
today, cept my right paw is a little painful, think I was on pc too
much yesterday, so will limit my time on here today, no big plans for me...just go with the flow I think...terrible shame about
the Georgia school shooting....

@hearlady Take the produce. Your neighbor is right. If they had crates of it to distribute and it's not taken, it will get thrown away.

@hawkdon Is there such a thing as spending too much time with friends? You don't have to reply a lot, just read.

@hollydolly Just a little longer...you know he doesn't want to take a chance on going to court.

Fiddlesticks! I waited too long to complete the dollar store application, and there are no openings at the store where I want to work :( I submitted application anyway and signed up to get alerts.

And it's light out now so I'm off to the garden🚶‍♀️to plant stuff.

On my early morning walk at 6:45, temp was 64 sun was beginning to rise as I went to buy local paper
This morning, I'll be walking to my church to help one of the staff members with a project she needs help with. This will be my long walk of the day,its 7 long blocks now takes me 25 min to get there. It's another sunny, warm day good way to get some exercise
When I come back, have lunch in cafe, read NYT,local paper,,tonight dinner in dining room with one of my new friends, Connie, who warmly welcomed me when I first moved in

Thanks GG!
BTW there's always openings for good reliable employees. Stay friendly with the store staff. Holiday help will be needed.

We need to go into town to drop off an Amazon parcel at the post office. We have to deposit some money into the bank as well as buy a socket to fix one of our vehicles . Since we are going that way anyway, we will go for a walk there since it’s a nice area. Then I need to do housework today so will do that in the afternoon. I can really feel my butt muscles today from all the biking we did yesterday but it’s a good feeling. Hopefully the biking will help me lose some weight.
