Health Care CEO murdered in NYC in a targeted attack

Hmmm, Wonder how he paid for his back surgery or treatment?

Besides political rhetoric what was HIS precise beef with health insurance.
It's hard to know. He's young to have had such surgery if those x-rays are legit. It was suggested on a YouTube show I watch that chronic pain could have driven him crazy.

I worry about chronic pain. At his age, if he thought that's all he has left, could he have lost his mind because of it? Not excusing. Just wondering.

Yet he rode a bike to get away. And he got pushed against the wall today during a court appearance after shouting at the press. No yelps or cries of pain. He might have back trouble but if severe sudden movement usually doesn't end well

Good points.

I heard a sound bite on the radio, while driving, about his behavior in court. Will look it up on YouTube or the news tonight.

I think there should be a law, when someone enters a premises, they must remove any type of headwear, whether it be a takeaway or grocery shop. Too many of these places are being robbed.

Yes, the whole darn thing is just too bizarre for words.
… with his high IQ, he just may have crossed over the edge, into the world of crazy.
How soon will we hear about his Insanity defense?

And to think of the things he could have accomplished in life - what a waste.

I was born with a high IQ. All through my childhood I was told I was "gifted" because I would always score at the top of the chart on those aptitude tests they give in school. In 1969 I scored 1340 on the GRE and 727 on the LSAT. They score them different these days but back then those scores roughly correlate to an IQ of 140. I avoid telling anyone this because all you get is hate from people because they say you are bragging. Gifted my ass. It's a Goddamned curse. Think about it. If your IQ is 140 and the average is 100 every morning you wake up to a world that to you is populated with morons. It's no wonder a lot of people with high IQ's go batshit crazy. And I'm one of them.

I'm six points under you, very close on the GRE and have long felt it a curse. Had way rather be average and oblivious.

I expect the other CEOs will be taking serious security measures, if they aren't already doing so. I doubt that the healthcare business will be changing their pursuit of maximizing profits, just because of this incident.

Won't bring any changes at all. None.

Agree that it won't change the profit focus but I'm not sad that the greedy SOBs have to sweat it.

You sound so bitter (who or what has caused you to be this way?) and jealous (envy) of people who have money. What a sad existence I feel coming from you. Being jealous of anyone is just sad. Venom and hate is an exhausting past time.
Slow your roll, CooCoo. You've been here eight days but already feel qualified to psychoanalyze long term members?

Here, that IS a Law.. and to further enforce it, most.. if not all places have signs up telling people to remove headgear.. crash helmets etc...before entering the premises

A friend of mine called me and was telling me that the shooter is from a very wealthy family, from which he was allegedly an heir. She knows the family name. She finds it to be an oxymoron that he supposedly hates capitalism. @WhatInThe
Not approving of what a wealthy family does isn't completely unusual. Like that guy John Robbins whose family is the Baskin-Robbins company. He walked away from his family inheritance and became vegan and diametrically opposed to the who kit-n-caboodle. Then he wrote a book called Diet for A New America and his advocacy against dairy/meat, saved his dad from the diabetes that was on the verge of taking 'Dad's' foot.

Yea it's a fn burdon, too bad high IQ doesn't always translate into big paychecks.

Insurance cannot prescribe. Doctors prescribe for their individual patients. Your last remark is snarky. My father died of lung cancer. It would have been impossible, a great feat! for a patient in his condition.
Didn't mean last statement I made as a snark at all!

I was at a trade show Saturday. While speaking with a nice 83 year old man he confided to me he was going to begin his third radiation treatment for lung cancer "Monday". He said he has "two large spots in the right upper lobe" (touching his upper rt chest gently, tapping) and multiple "small spots on the left". Bilateral lung cancer; I did not pry to ask if it had mets.

He said "on my bad days the pain can get completely unbearable and the meds didn't work as well as my bottle of Scotch does". I wasn't going to argue with an 83 year old, clearly a kind gentleman from his demeanor, who was pretty much doomed.

And I was passing on something I learned from this sad man and situation he was enduring.

But if I ever get diagnosed with lung cancer: I will try anything for pain and some type of alcohol, likely not Scotch (yuk), if it works like he says it does for him.

Sorry your Dad died of lung disease, as did my mother.

"Rich" is relative to one's own world view and experiences.
When I think of wealthy people, I think of such things as

1) WOW...look at ALL those taxes they pay in to the government (in the States it is nearly ALWAYS at least 50% of one's income when over 1.5 million or so;
2) WOW, they must have people bugging the crap out of them to donate or give money...to them;
3) WOW...I bet they have to pay body guards, financial accountants, tax accountants, lawyers...on and on and on...
4) WOW...when they die their relatives will be fighting over their money and forget mourning them at all!
5) WOW... LOOK how much they contribute to non-profits (or FOUND non-profits...).

I don't envy (or think anyone is privileged in this world) the wealthy at all.
I want just enough money so I don't have to worry about a roof over my head; food even isn't much of an issue the older I get! The MORE money you have the MORE everyone wants it from you, and the less people enjoy you for who you are is how I see it.
Or maybe it should be, 'think of all the taxes they don't pay because they can afford to hire accountants who know where all the loopholes are'. I remember Warren Buffet once say, it's a travesty that he pays less in taxes than his secretary does. I also remember looking up Elon Musk once and for several years he didn't pay any taxes and one year where he paid $68,000 and another where he paid about $65,000 in spite of earning $billions.

I like the attitude of Mark Cuban who paid $275 million for last year. When interviewed, he said, "“We only get to be entrepreneurs and enjoy the freedoms we have because of the men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting our country,” he tells CNBC Make It. “They deserve every penny they get and my taxes go to support them.” Now that man is a patriot and a decent man.

I realized fairly early in life that I am basicly a lazy individual. So I laid out a goal of becoming finacially comfortable with as little effort as possible. So I set my sights on getting a government job with decent pay and benefits and most of all a defined benefit pension plan and I stuck with it for 31 years and then retired. I've been retired now for 17 years and have no interest or need in doing anything that involves working for money. I'm not rich by any means. But I'm comfortable.

What most people think about government jobs is true of many of them and mine was no exception. Very little stress. Light work load. Good job security. Kinda like this: :)

I appreciate your bringing this impression you have to my attention, StarSong.

I didn't realize I came across as psychoanalyzing. :ROFLMAO: If ya'll on here knew me you would be laughing with me, trust me.

I have been accused more than once in my life, by my real world colleagues and people that know me well: "Do you analyze everything???".🤣:ROFLMAO:

As a matter of fact I do...:ROFLMAO:
On Graduate Review Exam "back in the day" I pegged my "analytical" score all the way to the right! 🤣
I was testifying for a case one time, and the judge told me: "You are really good at analysis. Did you ever consider being a lawyer?"

Frankly, I am just someone out here in the world with an very analytical mind and a lot of time on my hands in colder weather. A person who CARES about people, likely more than I should? ......But then why do I DO that??! 🤣

NOTE:
I have no specialist license to psychoanalyze, though I've had quite a lot of training/experience in psychiatric evaluation and analysis of patients. I wasn't doing any "psychoanalysis" on purpose or per se when I wrote, though. It was out of concern for that person's state of mind on the other end of my computer.

I've read some of the other posts by the person, as well that concerned me. Then I got a reply from that person that said something like: "I knew I didn't like you from the very beginning.."

That isn't something I hear every day, or have heard - ever in my life! And I assure you, people I interact with are honest enough to tell me if I do things to get a response like that! 🤣 It just confirms my analysis....:ROFLMAO:🤣.

Could not agree with you more but why the heck did he actually have to pay so much? Hmmm.
Did he use some three year lookback rule? 🤣 (Damn, there I go analyzing again.)

I say we vote to have the tax laws simplified.
Flat tax. No loopholes for corporations, or individuals.

Unrealized capital gains or any (unrealized income for that matter) should not be taxed
That would be a serious economy killer.

Can you imagine having to get your home appraised on its market value EACH year even though you haven't sold it? YIKES!
Would we then all be taxed on unrealized gains in our IRA accounts? YIKES!

He paid so much because he had a ton of capital gains that year. But that isn't the point is it? The point is, he's a rich guy who appreciates the country he was born in and feels privileged to be able to do his part to support it, unlike a lot, if not most of them. An honourable man in my opinion.

When I said "Could not agree with you more", I was meaning that I too think it is honorable and what we should all do when we are blessed to be so very fortunate to make that kind of money.

Tax paying never bothered me, either. I guess I just feel blessed to be able to live where I do and have made it through life without burdening others. I live on a play it forward basis, especially if I find myself with a surprise gift of money I wasn't expecting and planning to need.

Sorry, missed the opening sentence. The result of trying to think of too many things at once and answering a post. Supper simmering on the stove while my husband is in the other room listening to Youtube and yelling, "did you hear this? I can't believe .....!" And I'm looking at a post? It's true, multi tasking is not as good as it sounds on the surface.

But yeah, while we've always taken the obvious tax credits that our government makes available, when it hasn't worked out for us, we don't lose any sleep over it and we've muddled along comfortably in spite of it too. But some of those rich guys go to any and all lengths to manipulate the system to their advantage and I think that's kind of despicable. Usually ends up costing the little guy.

I just go off on tangents 😟 and think I am getting my point across and it fails more often than like to admit.
My brain is just very fast, always processing fast.

Putting it all down in a fashion such that others understand my thought process, is really hard.

I'd be VERY happy to give away all except what I need to live on if I could be as successful as all these billionaires!

Am one of those people who would build orphanages, medical schools, coop educational reform programs...huge lists.

But am not...so I pay my taxes and try not to manipulate my way out of my obligations as a citizen.

A question:

If a citizen didn't AGREE with the way their government was spending the tax money is it bad for the citizen to look for legal loopholes, so they have the freedom to use that money to influence legislation (contribute to lobbies)?

I hate insurance companies. My parents have both passed on. Eons ago, my dad could hardly walk with his back being so painful, but his employer's insurance doctor tried to do his utmost to deny my dad his claim. My dad also was super nice, so I'm glad my mom was there at that time with him. The doctor was forcing my dad to do exercises to demonstrate pain levels and my dad was really, really in pain and my mom, apparently yelled at the doctor to stop putting my dad through all of that. I could very happily have taken a gun and shot that insurance doctor. Until you have been through something like this, there is no telling what people will do to seek revenge.
