MOST ..people would NOT want to become American... those in poverty looking for a better life ...or those with high skillsets and not being paid enough in their countries for those skills , will be the ones who'd like to live in the USA...but believe me MOST people in the world would not like to be American

This is no shade on the people on this forum the vast majority here as a representative of their country are super people...
I would not expect someone from England to agree! Your newspapers and media have tried to tear down for USA forever! You all would be speaking German if it was not for the USA!

'' but do u trust your fellow american?''

Yes very much so . Keep in mind most people are good people but for some reason as rule the good people do not wind up in politics though some exceptions and the bad always stick out but American or not most are good people .
I'm pretty sure that you and most of this audience has recently doubted the fairness of some capitalistic scam. Capitism gone nuts!!!!:)

I find it fascinating that so many Americans are surprised that we are not so well liked. After decades of snide remarks, asides and delving into stereotypes, how can you not realize it.

Generally, they like the concept of America, just not Americans. If you have visited many countries as I, you recognize a peculiar vibe of superiority. I would say the Asian countries try to outdo each other, but the Europeans have a certain disdain... for each other, let alone Americans.

I don't worry about it.
Yes, there is a reason the term The Ugly American was quoted decades ago. Visiting abroad, I can always spot the Americans because they are typically the loudest and pushiest. They also expect everyone to speak to them in English without even making an effort to learn a few words in another language to at least get by. I've found even in a city as uppity as Paris if I make an attempt to speak their language they become more welcoming. Americans love to go some place "exotic" but they expect English to be spoken and a McDonald's on every corner.

From my experience, the only other population of tourists that seems more self-absorbed is the new Middle Class of the Chinese. They are very pushy. I've had tour guides tell them to move on in historic museums because they stop traffic taking pictures. They are fast catching up to us.

I didn't ''conveniently'' leaving anything out

Persecution? .. and Politics ?... comes under the same thing as far I'm concerned ..and that's Poverty...those who live in poverty stricken countries, countries who are at war with their neighbours..all come under the same umbrella.. of poverty...

people from India.. The Middle East, the African continent.. Russia.. Ukraine.. all living in dire circumstances in some instances... .. but they come to all western countries not just the USA

The UK has a massive immigrant population for it's size... In fact our immigrant numbers are actually larger than the USA...the uk.. stands at almost 17 % of the population.. that they know of.. and very likely a good deal more...

The USA.. has an immigrant population of 14 %...

So we could argue that by those percetages that ''Everybody wants to be British''... but of course that wouldn't be the case they just come for a better life !
Posting on a forum, like email and texting is fraught with miscommunication. It is best to state your arguments as accurately and clearly as possible on such important topics to not be misunderstood. The reason why I will include links to credible sites and not just biased media.

I didn't write the piece at WorldAtlas, I was just pointing out the #2 and #3 reason stated. Yes, the article states, "Individuals and families seeking asylum from violence and war usually immigrate to the United States in search of safety and stability." So, yes I agree that war torn countries have massive impoverished populations. But it also states, "America is often viewed as a safe haven by non-US citizens enduring ethnic, racial, and religious persecution" Your original argument "Persecution? .. and Politics ?... comes under the same thing as far I'm concerned ..and that's Poverty". Not all People who experience ethnic, racial and especially religious persecution are poor.

I am fully aware of the UK immigration population. My post had nothing to do with being offended by your post. Enough said on the topic.

Trust me, I don't like being an American some days but NOT because I am ashamed of or hate my country. I feel this way because I'm so tired of the US being hated and blamed for everything in the world; when there are many other countries that have been around for centuries still committing heinous crimes against humanity in 2025. Russia killing Ukrainians and the persecution of Uyghurs in China. The US should NOT be in the top 3 list of most hated countries.

Lastly, no one wants to be British either🤣

We can all fix these hatred problems by making sure when abroad, we get the blame placed on Canada.

It's easy. Just learn to say "I'm sorry. I'm Canadian" in whatever language is used where you're at.

Why get involved in an international incident, when you can get out of it so easily. Nobody wants to not like the Canadians.

Drunk and you spill a drink in a local's lap? I'm sorry. I'm Canadian.

Knock a pedestrian under a bus? I'm sorry. I'm Canadian.

Caught taking an painting out of the Louvre's rear employee entrance? I'm Sorry. I'm Canadian.

Heck, I've used this in Canada once when I knocked a retirement cake over and into the lap of a wife of some Minster of this and that. Well, I modified it a bit. I'm Sorry, I'm from the Yukon. Adding a French accent helped.

Here is info that doesn't agree with what you post.

Which Countries Provide and Receive the Most Foreign Aid?

Do you have a source showing something different?

I could agree that wanting & forcing other countries to use their resources can cause discontent. I'm in favor of that aid support being cut & used to help American's 1st.
Well it seems most recently the US waited several days before sending help to the earthquake areas. USAID and FEMA have been gutted by DOGE.

Luckily 2 of my 3 kids are married to people that have EU citizenship. I’m so happy they can leave if they need to. By September we will be living under a dictatorship. I’m too old to leave and won’t leave my dogs behind.

I think Americans have a post WWII concept of the rest of the world. Most of it lays in destruction, poverty, and depends on the US- the sole, shining star of wealth, prosperity and freedom. Almost all of that is no longer true. Today, most nations are wealthy, prosperous and have some personal freedoms. Unfortunately, I believe other nations view the US as a gun crazy wild west shooting gallery with crime ridden streets,
major corruption, and little respect for others.

USA is a democracy - been there and enjoyed it tremendously - you have a democratic model of govt - have elections to vote in a party who then elects their own president I guess ? - sounds like a copy of UK; Oz ;Nz etc etc - welcome to the club - who you vote for is your business ; how you select your president is your business - and over time they have ranged from V.Good to Not so very Good - that's the price of freedom - welcome to the free world!!

Just a couple of observations.

Haters are going to hate and it doesn't matter who they are or where they may be from or what even it is about. They will always find something to b*tch about.

When my husband & I were in Germany for a month, we didn't observe anyone from America that was loud or rude that stood out. We did run into other Americans while we were there. While on a tour bus waiting to leave for Neuschwanstein, a group of obnoxious drunks from England tried to board with mugs of beer. The driver made them dump the beer, but they wouldn't shut up the entire trip.

It's easy to say we should fund all these good causes. But, can we afford it?

The USA will have a two trillion dollar deficit this year. The question I have is simple - How much are we expected to borrow to fund all these good things? What is the limit?

I would like people to give me a number that is the limit. How much debt should we pile onto our children and grand-children for the sake of other countries? Is there a limit? If so, what? It's already at about $95,000 per person. Is $100,000 the limit? $150,000? $250,000? Is there a limit?

To help, keep in mind that if a person pilled up ONE TRILLION DOLLARS ($1,000,000,000,000) in one dollar bills it would be about 62 thousand miles high. 1/3 the way to the Moon. And this year alone we are building two such piles.

So I ask. What is the limit of debt we will pile up onto the backs of American citizens? Today's and the future generations.

Or maybe adjusted to determine what does or doesn't fail.

For decades, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been unaccountable to taxpayers as it funnels massive sums of money to the ridiculous — and, in many cases, malicious — pet projects of entrenched bureaucrats, with next-to-no oversight.

Here are only a few examples of the WASTE and ABUSE:

$1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities”
$70,000 for production of a “DEI musical” in Ireland
$2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam
$47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia
$32,000 for a “transgender comic book” in Peru
$2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala
$6 million to fund tourism in Egypt
Hundreds of thousands of dollars for a non-profit linked to designated terrorist organizations — even AFTER an inspector general launched an investigation
Millions to EcoHealth Alliance — which was involved in research at the Wuhan lab
“Hundreds of thousands of meals that went to al Qaeda-affiliated fighters in Syria”
Funding to print “personalized” contraceptives birth control devices in developing countries
Hundreds of millions of dollars to fund “irrigation canals, farming equipment, and even fertilizer used to support the unprecedented poppy cultivation and heroin production in Afghanistan,” benefiting the Taliban
The list literally goes on and on — and it has all been happening for decades.

Under President Trump, the waste, fraud, and abuse ENDS NOW.

I like taking a step back to evaluate what exactly tax dollars are actually doing.

Do you have info to support continuing to waste tax dollars.

a good reply - if you live in a street with 20 other residents and they are all shouting poverty how much personal money do you have to share around to these needy ones and does it go on for ever??

Indeed! According to some Europeans I have talked too, the Ugly Americans were replaced by the Ugly Germans about 30 years ago. The Ugly Germans were replace by the Ugly Chinese about a decade later. Now, I think the crowds in popular European cities make us all look a little Ugly. The poor tourist can't win.

it won't last though - depends on who your next govt maybe??

I read these posts to try to understand members' perspective on these controversial topics.

I find your post sad because you seem genuinely distraught. I truly have sympathy for your fear of living under a dictatorship. So what I am about to say is NOT meant to be facetious or sarcastic. If you honestly believe the US will be a dictatorship by September, you should find a way for you and your child and your dogs to leave the US to be with your other 2 children in Europe. Don't let age stop you from finding peace elsewhere if you feel the US is such a horrible place.

Governments do not make their citizens behave badly abroad. I've seen some pretty rude foreign tourists in our National Parks. But the majority are nice. The worst Canadians I have ever seen were in Canada. They were throwing rocks at historic old mine buildings in a National Park. Big rocks. I thanked the stars that they were not Americans. I found the behavior very unusual as Canadians generally take a lot of pride in their country and it's heritage.

something is causing an increase in aggressive ;maniacal and murderous behaviors and we are either feeling helpless or can't see it or have become paralyzed with fear - we should be taking swift actions and perhaps following some guidelines from the much safer and well behaved countries like the Scandanavians? - no they are NOT perfect and do have their own malfunctions but much rarer than others - lessons should be learned

Sorry @smiley, but we're not quite in the same government club ;). We have a representative republic where the President is elected directly by the people & not appointed by Congress.
