Forum "Status"

Is it of consequence to you whether your "image" within a forum is of any particular "color" or venue? In other words, do you seek to please, offer condolence, boast, look for friendship, prove superior knowledge, wile away an afternoon?

Why are we here?

Me, I like to argue.

I do recognise that behind every avatar is a real person, with real feelings, and so when I sense that a person is distressed I sometimes reach out gently.
If I think a person is up for it I tease, taunt or give them a bit of a prod.

But mostly, I just argue.

I'm here waiting for Phil to put on his skimpy suit again. :bigwink:

"Forum status" is the furthest thing from my mind. I'm not trying to impress ANYONE.

Its an insignificant reason for being on a forum, unless you're TRYING to impress everybody.

Trying to impress without being who or what you are representing is called being "ostentatious" isn't it? I used to laugh at guys that would go into bars and tell women that they were FBI agents or Special Ops in the military. I remember a guy that was about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches tall trying to convince a woman in a bar that he was with the CIA. My wife asked me what I thought and I told her that he probably was...as a typist maybe.

I am here to engage with others from a variety of backgrounds, ages, opinions etc. It sharpens my verbal and cognitive skills, and hopefully adds to my knowledge, understanding, and humanity. Humour is a lot of fun also! I believe in bringing silly back!

I don't have any locals to visit with, and I like to interact with people, so I turn to the internet. Years ago, say the first 25 years I was married, I had pen pals which helped me learn about people all over the U.S. and even a few foreign countries, plus some became good friends. I like the internet better than pen pals since it's almost instantaneous. I can talk on here without anyone interrupting me or talking over me so that's a nice plus. :) Humor is extremely important to me and if there weren't a lot of that on here I imagine I would have been gone a long time ago. As far as image or venue, why bother worrying about that, people are going to think what they want to anyway. As far as color, well anyone who knows me knows green is my favorite color. It has been ever since I realized my mom was wrong and my eyes are green, not blue. (Imp, I know that's not what you meant by "color" but I'm interjecting some humor into my post. :)

Imp, just focusing on your examples... one thing I don't like to do is argue. As far as "image," I would hate most to be thought of as boastful or judgemental. I've always been a loner, one friend at a time, so I'm here just trying to learn to interact with a larger group of folks, and maybe make some people laugh once in awhile. So I guess I fall in the category of seeking to please. What surprises me is how easy it is to unintentionally start an argument on forums.

Nancy,I seem to have become the resident expert at it! And it IS unintentional! I promise to "polish" my tact and thoughtfulness schemes, round off the sharp edges.... imp
