Forum member seriously injured

Doctor has just called at 6,15pm, and is issuing a prescription for antibiotics after viewing the pictures of my hand sent to the surgery by the District nurse yesterday... she's also sending one for more Methocarbamol to ease the painful muscle spasms.

Only problem is , the pharmacy closed at 5pm.. so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to get them

the ironical thing is, as you all know here , I would have in normal circumstances been the one to have taken photos of everything..... of course I was barely alive so in no condition to even think about taking photos... however..a weird thing is.. that £150 of groceries were completely destroyed in the boot of the car despite being safely enclosed inside an insuated trolley on wheels....and the tool that I had on my car key chain which was supposed to be used to smash a window if ever it was needed in an accident.. tore off the actual chain in the impact while the key was in the ignition.. and landed at the back of the car...

yet my handbag which was in the footwell of the passenger side.. in front... (and the front of the car suffered the most damage)...and would have hit the floor and roof of the car 6 times in total as the car overturned on it's roof 3 times.. had nothing broken inside.. not my phone.. or anything... amazing...

this bag... co-incidentally, I took this picture exactly one week before the accident...

Holy sh*t....thank God you survived!!

Very sorry that the Dr called AFTER the pharmacy closed. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

One more night. 😒

That was crash, hollydolly, you are very, very, lucky to be up
and posting, I know that you won't be thinking that with all
the pain, but you are healing well.

Mike.
thank you Mike, you're absolutely correct, I don't feel that I'm getting better because of the pain, and the inability to lead my normal life...because of it ... but like you, everyone is saying how much they can see an improvement in me....

The night after I saw your post-accident car and read your description of the accident, I had a nightmare I was in pretty much the same accident. It was vivid and horrifying, so much so that the saner part of my psyche pulled me awake and out of it.
Oh Mary... I'm so sorry.. this has actually made cry.. I'm sitting here with tears rolliing down my face...

Do you know I didn't even cry at the accident.. I didn't cry at the hospital.. I was in too much pain to cry....

I have sprained thumbs, cut fingers or palm, lost nails, things like that but never lost the use.
Get your life back is the best thing to plan on. A good plan is a plan to stick to. Make it adjustable
so you can change it as needed doll. A plan that is working is a great plan. ... :coffee: ... Most
likely stretch out the great plan for a year or more. Look forward to the day. Keep occupied too.
Learning to do stuff Left-handed brings satisfaction / dissatisfaction but it's a start. Left handers
have some good things bout it.

I'm a right hander but from youngster I batted Left, shot baskets left, played golf left Swung an
Axe and Maul lefty.

Maybe that helped me with my accident injures too, Pain on both sides equaling out with the nerves / collisions..
I had noticed that many times if I hurt one side of the bod I usually hurt the other side within a short time.

I get cha on the wiper joke. Broken wiper was about the only thing left on it.

I know what Methocarbamol is. It was given to one of my horses when he fractured his back in a bad hail storm. It was his second SI fracture and the vet/chiropractor did some astounding out-of-the-box- thinking to heal him.

There are a lot of oral meds, topicals, etc in life, that crossover between humans and horses. Also products used for THIS which will work for THAT.

Over the yearsI have collected an arsenal of things that work (and don’t work) to help reduce pain, swelling, bruising, etc. I combine scrience & technology with things holistic wherever possible.

I am happy to share, if you’re interested please ask, as there are some on this forum who Pooh-pooh anything the doctor doesn’t prescribe. My husband was like that - he would spend money at the doctor for a prescription of Triamcinolone for poison iby and I headed to the soap shop for a few bars of red clay Jewelweed soap. The end results were the same and equally as fast, except my route was cheaper.

You have made a phenomenal recovery physically, just by typing and the fact you WANT to communicate with others, as is usual for you. That is a huge deal so don’t stop because you feel like you aren’t making fast enough progress.

There are a lot of us who can’t make any more progress than we already have, but we have some THING that. pushes us forward. I have not been able to ride a horse since 2012. My ability to care for them is fading but I push through every day because they are what is most important in my life.

You need to push forward for the thing(s) that are most important in your life. - and think outside the Healing Box while you’re doing it. I have had 2-3 medical professionals TELL me I shouldn’t even be walking yet I only use a cane. Willpower is a real thing and a wonderful thing 😇😇

Imogene, you sould like you have a similar mindset to myself...

I am in a lot of pain, especially in my back with spasm attacking very few minutes, so painful... but I feel if I don't make myself communicate on the forum, and using my hands as best as I can.. while in recovery.. I'll just take so much longer to get well.. and very likely make things worse by sinking into a depression because I can't get out.. and drive.... I can't do normal things as I would do usually..I can't garden.. can't even clean up like I would usually.. just surface tidying.. even bending just slightly has me shooting back up like a whippet..with pain..so being able to at least communicate here is helping hugely

With regard to the human/ animal crossover meds.. I agree wholeheartedly..

Just a couple of days ago.. my daughter who has animals as children basically, treats her animals like they were Heaven sent just for her .. got me to buy some Leucillin Natural antiseptic , anitbacteril, spray to use on the wounds on my hands..

She uses it on all of her animals if they have wounds, even in their mouths when they have sore mouths...and has no qualms whatsoever about using it on herself for any kind of surface wounds

I mentioned it to my GP on the phone yesterday.. there was ..''silence''.. then she said, I've never heard of it, but I suggest you don't put it on your hands...

Be careful about mixing antiseptics Holly. If the Meds aren't and you try the Other don't continue to mix them. My observation.
When I was a kid on the farm, used sprays and Potases. I remember one Feeder Pig, huge lump on its hind leg, Dad lanced it and sprayed.
It was probably kicked by a calf. By the time I grew up, finished College raising animals on the farm had passed to grain only. Too much EPA stuff by then. I had followed a career in Manufacturing Maintenance.

One's hand has many tiny places where very tiny foreign objects can get into and get infected. Yours most likely would be glass / Oil /
Antifreeze. If you remember the floorboard of the car being contaminated / wet thas something the doc should know about.
It didn't look like you had a fire so that wouldn't be fire department stuff. But they do deal with spilt gas and stuff.

Will antifreeze cause infection in an injured hand after an accident - Bing

I could have leaked from the damage to the heater core possibly, it would cool while dripping and running down the floorboard /
or on the dash upside down sitting. Let the Doc know if you remember wet.

PT I've had plastic surgery on my hand and arm at the hospital.. the surgeons removed all the glass

I don't mix any anitseptics.. they never gave me any antiseptic at the hopital for my hand.. no creams no lotions, no ointment... just wrapped the hand in a cast

Ok Holly you were talking above. ↑

Yes
Yes, doctors do use antibiotics (antibacterials) when doing plastic surgery. Antibiotic prophylaxis is commonly recommended to prevent surgical-site infections, especially in procedures that involve larger incisions or multiple sites. This practice is standard in the medical community to ensure patient safety and minimize the risk of infection ..... "I know the terminology gets tricky." ... :coffee: ...

yes but not anything since I've been home from the hospital now 17 days ..

Holly, how awful about the back spasms. Was that a problem you had before, or was your back injured in the accident?
