I have sad news to share about another beloved resident here at Canterbury Woods. I've mentioned time to time about friend, Connie, she moved in Nov 2017,month after this place opened. We received an email this afternoon, she passed away yesterday ,I think she was 93. She was a very warm, outgoing, terrific lady who I affectionately called the' Queen Bee' She was the head of the 'welcoming committee', called me the 2nd night after I moved in inviting me to dinner. I had no idea what to expect, that evening I met Bob, retired Catholic priest, Andy, retired minister. Afterwards she took me into our library, gave me a packet of information sheets 'Learning The Ropes' which I still have
After I had been here 6 months, she included me in the weekly Thurs dinner get together in the dining room with Bob,Gene&Jim,got to know them all better. When we knew Connie wasn't coming back here, was at the other CW site in Williamsville, we've continued the weekly get together, before we start our dinner, we raised our glasses in honor of her& Val who passed away 3 weeks ago
I'm sad but its a blessing that she is no longer in pain. I will miss her very much like other residents who knew her, have my memories of her

awww ,,,sorry to hear that you've lost a friend and mentor , Sue.... you have mentioned Connie on several occasions.... She lived a long life, and it sound like she was active almost right up to the end... may she R.I.P.. and as you say out of pain now... ..but it always leaves a big hole in our lives when we lose a friend...

Oh, I'm sorry Connie is gone. I too have heard you mention her in your postings. May She Rest in Peace.

Good morning, everyone. It is cold at 34 degrees this morning, will warm up to 63 degrees today.

I will be going to get my blood test this morning for my kidney function. I do not like this test but must have it done before my doctor visit next week.

@moviequeen1 I am so sorry to hear of the death of your friend, Connie. She sounded like a good friend and may her memory be a blessing to you. 🤗

Have a nice day, everyone.:)

Hello! Looky me, up on time....I think it's the first time this week! Of course, I didn't sleep well last night, so I was sort awake anyway.....but I'm up!!! LOL
It only went down to 25°F/-3.8°C last night, and it will get above freezing again this afternoon. After that, we start another cold spell with some really low temps for a few days.
I'm not sure what I'll be doing today, but I think I'll turn on my playlist again while working around the house. That really lifted my spirits yesterday! It's been a long time since I've danced around the kitchen!!! LOL

Afternoon Peeps of SF.... 🙋‍♀️ I hope you are all feeling good today..despite our collective aches and pains

It's cloudy today, very drab... I dropped off some donations to the charity shop, but I couldn't go to the recycle centre because now I don't have a big enough car to take everything at once. My new car is only little, and the boot is tiny, just enough space for a few shopping bags nothing more . I could fold the seats down flat , but I'll only use that when absolutely necessary...

I will take the recycle stuff tomorrow or at the weekend... instead..

Have the best day you can Folks... 🌻

Morning all, thanks for the kind words about my friend, Connie
I went out on my early walk at usual time 6:50 temp was 14 ,windchill was -3. I was pleasantly surprised to find a snow covered path to the end of the back driveway. The 1st time I could walk back and forth in about a week I was a happy camper, may go out again this afternoon
My plan today, read today's NYT,start another book
As usual, tonight having weekly dinner at 5:30 in dining room with Bob,Gene&Jim will raise our glasses in memory of Connie and Val
Everybody have a good day

Cor Blimey Ada... I went out to the barn a little while ago.. and I nearly froze..jeez it feels like raw ice out there, even tho; they tell us the temps are 4 deg..I don't believe it, it feels like Minus 4 deg.... 🥶
🥶
I'm just going to make dinner now at approaching 6pm..... something nice and warming..maybe chicken curry....

Supermarket resupply later this morning. Otherwise after a wet holiday period, am in a holding pattern as much of the whole West mountainous regions (except southern AZ/NM) is at near record snow drought for January including Tahoe where I ski, while the East has been in an arctic blast.

This also threatens to destroy built up annual wildflower seeds in the ground about Southwest desert regions that germinated after the December storms but could die off in the ground without more water, reducing future seed beds for years hence. Thus, we need storms to return within a couple weeks, or increasing desert sun warming temperatures will desiccate what has been set in motion.

Pretty quiet around here the last couple of days. Had a growth on my nose surgically removed yesterday and they seem to think I'm supposed to stay kinda quiet for a few days. I can't really tell how many stitches the Doc put in but it looks like at least five. Fortunately I haven't experienced the pain and swelling too badly that he warned me about. Don't need any swelling. I have a big enough schnoz as it is.
I could drive into town today and do a bit of shopping but I don't want to traumatize people.
Harper is pretty bored too.

My little ole car is back to herself again, $972 bucks later :ROFLMAO: .... but she gets me where I need to go!

It's supposed to warm up again today 80F / 26C .... I can't bring myself to complain, since so many others are freezing. It's only 54 in Kingman, AZ, so if we move there - I will get a better taste of winter.

We are going to drive out to Kingman next week and stay for a few days - to look at some houses for sale and get a better feel for what neighborhood we might want to move to. Should be fun and exhausting.

You all stay safe and warm !!!

Not any thing new in our life.
Hubby is in pain/discomfort from dental work he had done yesterday.
Mashed up some cooked cauliflower,,put some cheese on it for him.

I did get the sweeper canister dumped.
Did get couple of rugs done before he came in from Dentist.

Hubby had a sore mouth,, be a quite evening to night. ☺️

Have another mystery to read tonight.o_O

Hello all!

@spectratg, I hope your recovery is going well and you'll be back in the pink soon.
@moviequeen1, my condolences on the passing of your dear friend. You've mentioned Connie with great fondness many times and she will surely be missed.

A friend (in his late 30s) texted me that he's going to be working nearby Friday & Saturday and was wondering if he could he crash here tomorrow night. (He lives two hours away without traffic so the drive would be hellish during peak Friday afternoon commuting hours.)

I said, "Of course" and meant it. He's been coming to our pizza cookie parties since he was about 15 (his older brother was BFF with one of my sons) and forged a relationship of his own with us. He always makes the effort to see us over the holidays - as I said, it's a long way for him to come just for a party.

So the above motivated me to spiff up the guest BR and BA. A little decluttering while I'm at it. Clearing those decks was in the plan anyway because one of my sisters is coming for a ten day visit ❤️ starting Tuesday.

@Georgiagranny, I even broke out the Swiffer duster.

Beautiful weather here today, if a bit on the breezy side. 80° for a high.

Facebook group, Desert Wildflowers and Wildlife, says flowering is happening now from A-B SP, down through Baja.

Today was my first day to leave home since Friday. The ice melted and streets were clear. All the tires needed air, so I did that first (glad I bought an air compressor last year). Went to p.o. box; not as much business mail as expected, thankfully, then to Walmart. Nothing I had to get, but a few things I can use, and needed to stay out awhile to get rid of cabin fever.

I don't know what's going on at this Walmart. No frozen pecan pies. When I asked, I was told those are only sold fresh in the bakery now. Not one jar of regular unsalted peanuts, and no spot for them anymore on the shelf. I like to have those for a healthy snack - but they've cut back on all nut products. No pecans either. Only Roma tomatoes -no ordinary big tomatoes and the section where they were has something else now. Apparently hard times are making people stop buying some of the regular things I always get, so the store isno longer stocking them.

Upstairs, laying back in my brightly LED illuminated upstairs bedroom on the floor mattress 9:30pm PST (-8.00 UTC) Thursday now 1/29/2069. Productive, technically stimulating week at home. Success processing GoPro 11 videos with the unfamiliar complex editing software and creating comprehensive Excel video file Exiftool charts required plenty of command prompt command line processing and Excel formula challenging work. With tech stuff, much is a sort of "use it or lose it" thing as in brain memory wise "use it at least occasionally or forget how to use it ".

Just smartphone looked at tomorrow's Friday weather for a familiar photography location near Pacheco Pass about 65 highway highway miles south. Drive against most of the morning commute traffic. Mid 65F temp, 5 mph max breeze, partly cloudy day, I can count on enough calm moments to be able to capture good focus stack blending a6700 shots. I haven't done any photo for awhile and instead been skiing. But given the stale snow conditions, won't bear the long boring drive this week that will also allow my right foot slight grade 1 spring ligament to better heal.

It has been 3 dry mid winter weeks without rain that given my experience in that environment over several years, am expecting despite it being quite early for usual spring wildflowers, that this year a few species will break the usual pattern because there was so much rain over the holiday. So expect to see some rising shooting stars, johnny-jump- ups, and California buttercups with gorgeously green glowing hills at midday.

Besides my usual a6700 gear will also dabble with the much more convenient to capture quick less important shots, Pixel 10 Pro and that way evaluate comparison on similar subjects.

Morning all, I didn't go out for my early walk because its one of the coldest days temps is 5 windchill -15, the high today 10. The majority of the schools are closed, doing remote. The sun is out looks mighty tempting to go outside, I'll take a pass
My plan today, weekly exercise class at 10,read today's NYT, this afternoon walk the hallway for some exercise, try to keep moving, don;t like to sit for long periods of time
Everybody have a good day

Afternoon peeps of SF... 🙋‍♀️

Gloriously sunny afternoon after some light rain this morning...temps are at 9 deg now at coming up to 2pm 🌞

I didn't go out because to get to the recycle centre I have to drive on the dual carriageway, which on a Friday morning is absolutely packed with people going home early for the week... and as I still am very skittish about being hit by another car after my accident....I am still trying to only drive when the roads are a little less busy
I tell you, that woman who is STILL saying it wasn't her fault... has ruined a life I had of driving enjoyment...

Anyway , enough of that ... hope you all have the best Friday you can...🌺🌻🌼

Good morning, everyone. It is cold out 32 degrees but warmer tonight at 43 degrees and then the weekend with 21 degrees as a low on Saturday and 24 on Sunday. The big freeze, I guess, hitting the Southeast.

I am going out this morning to uncover my Gardenia plant and then have to cover again for the weekend. My old plant seems to survive while other plants in people's yards are dead from the cold. It has been over 18 years since I bought it and is in a planted pot. It sometimes has many flowers and sometimes not so many.

I hope you all will have a good day and please take care of yourselves. :)

I just called my GP surgery for an appointment... It's difficult enough to get an appt to see a doctor within a month, but now they're changing the appt system to a triage system as from the middle of next month

This means that ..as she told me just now.. that in future when we patients try to make an appt we will have to answer 3 minutes of questions either online or by phone to a clinical receptionist, and they will decide who gets to see a doctor first based on clinical need...

I needed an appt and she's managed after I told her why I need to see a doctor, to get me an appt within the next week ,,but she told me they are dreading this new system, and can see major problems ahead.. and she said .. ''just be happy I managed to get you in to see a doctor before these changes all take place.''

She's not filled me with any confidence with regard future GP appointments :oops:
