A Nice Walk ( with photos )

Wow Kadee. I ‘can’ understand the desire to make your own pickled beets. They really are fabulous. It’s only been 2 days. Normally we’d wait for at least 2 weeks to open them but we opened a bottle today to have with our turkey dinner and they really ARE far better than store sought. If you lived closer I really would invite you for dinner. In the meantime we’ll happily scoop your recipe. We have cinnamon sticks. We make our own cinnamon tea. It makes a fabulous tea. Apparently cinnamon is great for lowering blood pressure and blood sugar AND it does a great job of leaving a nice scent in the house. Between our air exchanger and all the cooking we do, our house always smells nice.

I love all manner of beets except the canned ones. Baked is wonderful but I have to imagine pickled will be even better. I don't do canning or bottling but I've bought Japanese pickling salt and experimented with pickling a lot of veggies. Will have to do some beets now. Yum!

The pickled beets are definitely worth the time and effort. We just finished our Thanksgiving dinner and it was great. Heres our traditional Easter dinner. We flip our turkey over the last half an hour of baking to brown the bottom and stop the breasts from getting too dried out.

On plate. Turkey , roasted potatoes and carrots, steamed broccoli and cauliflower, gravy, pickled beets, stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Beautiful plate. I was surprised to hear you are celebrating Easter now. I realize our Australian friends have inverted seasons to our Northern ones. But I don’t think of Christian based holidays as varying nationally. I know, I’m a shut-in. 😉

Technically Canadian Thanksgiving isn’t until tomorrow but we usually have ours on the Sunday AND Monday. That way we get to stuff our faces twice instead of once. lol
You’re about as much of a shut in as I am. 🤪

As far as I know Australia, Canada, United States and the United Kingdom ALL have different dates for celebrating Thanksgiving.

Oops! I said Easter dinner. I meant Thanksgiving. Sorry about that. It took me hours to see my mistake. Thanks for pointing that out ; in a round about way.

In the warmer months I’ll sometimes go to the fridge and eat a slice of beetroot.

Today I’m going to check out our local shop that get then in nice and fresh in spring ….( spring here ) and make a bottle or 2 for us….its heaps nicer then that shop stuff that’s got no taste whatsoever.

I think it’s fun we can swap ideas / cooking hints

If your anything like me you will love the pickled beetroot recipe I posted a link for @MarkD its got just the right “tang” to eat with hot meats ….or even in a slice of freshly buttered toast ….maybe duck over @PeppermintPatty :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: and borrow a loaf of her freshly made bread ….and have the sliced / pickled beetroot on the toast.

My youngest brother is 18 years younger than me …when he was little he used to call it Beep Bop

Bottling your own beetroot is FAR better than store bought beetroot but I still liked the store bought. This is my first time trying the homemade pickled beetroot. I should have worn a BIB while test tasting cause I missed my mouth ( not quite sure how ) and ended up with beetroot on my blouse. 😏 I took my top off right away and soaked the stained part with vinegar and it all came out. Yayy. Vinegar.
Vinegar is great for so many things.

It’s too bad we didn’t all live closer. We could share stuff we grow and chat in person. Then again, that’s a lot scarier . lol 😝
Note: I have social anxiety really bad.

I knew there'd be a logical answer but it eluded me. Belated Happy Thanksgiving! Two of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes are Brussel sprouts smothered in butter and horseradish and cranberry relish.

We did finally get off to another walk today. Went back to Fort Funston in San Francisco and this time Lia walked with her walker to the north on paved paths while Ember and I went South into Thornton State Park. Lia and I used to come that way a lot and the walk used to be much longer going as far South as Ember and I did today but along the beach and then heading back up along most of the route Ember and I took today. But today we kept higher than ever before and saw some different sights. It was pretty cool out with lots of low clouds and some fog which I like but they did darken my photos.

Our route started out just down from Highway 1 where I've seen coyotes before so I kept a sharp eye out for them, thankfully not needed.

The first one is taken at the start of the walk. I didn't take too many because I was feeling the intestinal pressure of impending diarrhea. I knew if I didn't make choice soon I wouldn't have any choice about what would happen. So I moved along pretty fast until I found a thicket of scrubby trees off from any trail. After the crises was handled, I took the next three from a higher point than Lia and I have ever been here.

This video was taken a little further down from the last two and the path you see at the bottom is the one the horses take.

The next two are taken from along the edge of the cliff just above the beach.

Finally here is a short stop action video I took of Lia coming up on the steep path up from the beach which Ember and I went down today.

My 13yr old boy dog took me exploring this afternoon around the pond
I behaved and didn't jump on or yell at other folks who were out and about
So Mason may take me exploring another day WOooHOoo

Mason has a winning smile. Ember would like him. She likes big boys. With the girls there is a turf issue sometimes.

I thought maybe you didn’t realize that our Canadian Thanksgiving was earlier than yours.

I love Brussel sprouts but they are my husbands least favourite vegetables so we don’t eat them for Thanksgiving.

Your photos look fabulous. That video of Lia climbing the hill is so cute.

When we traveled to Queensland in June this year , we traveled out of our way to go through the state of Victoria that joins South Australia

I thought these old shops that are (still being used) were nice ..forgot the name of the town I’ve got other photos of the towns name I’ll look up
