Am genuinely worried about what is happening in UK

Perhaps I'm seeing this as an American, (of course I am) but in my book such outward racist behavior is disgusting.....as I said, Europe was never set up for this, but that still doesn't excuse burning down buildings with people inside. There is no justification. It's bottled rage, yes it is, but still cannot condone such ugly hatred. Those beautiful girls didn't die so people can piss on those they don't care for. They shouldn't have died at all, but now that's in the hands of the law.
if only we had a proper legal system ....

How would you describe what a 'proper' legal system should be? What specific features do you think the British legal system should have regarding the issues being discussed in this thread?

Has been reported that judiciary are institutionally racist. Justice is meant to be unbiased or prejudicial, regardless of anything.

I think the University of Manchester, which conducted the survey, was more specific. Their 40-page, 23,000-word report probably explains it better than a media report.

Of cause you are right, justice is meant to be unbiased.

This part of the thread comes from @Pepper in her post #345, specifically from the words, "Those beautiful girls didn't die so people can piss on those they don't care for. They shouldn't have died at all, but now that's in the hands of the law.".

With a response to that at post #351, then my question at post #352. Which no doubt only others will answer on behalf of post #351.

We do. The Earth is also an oblate spheroid, and not flat.

The justice system is made up of humans, and as humans we have flaws. Expecting a system with no biases is an impossible dream. Instead, we identify those who are the bad apples, and we remove them. When laws are unjust, we change them. That is the very best we can do or expect as a society. It's important to remember that our laws and rules are a reflection of society, and society over hundreds of years. WE made this laws.

Some of the thinking on display here read as though certain individuals have fallen into the trap of hating their country. It's a trope popular on extreme right wing sides of the internet: The government is terrible and corrupt; the law is terrible and corrupt; big business want to take all our money; big Pharma don't care about health outcomes. Blah blah blah. Same old tales circling the drain. Personally I find it a depressing, not to mention warped, mind set to have.

Elon Musk seems to be a big time rabble rouser.

The Tesla chief executive and owner of X posted to the platform Sunday that “civil war is inevitable” in response to a post blaming the violent demonstrations on the effects of “mass migration and open borders.”

Now we have the farcical situation where the new PM.. is arguing publicly with Elon Musk....

The only reason anyone cares what Musk says is because he's impossibly rich.

I think his wealth has great influence in America. He owns some very influential projects. World internet, "X", and electric cars are extremely important. What his world views are influences a lot of people. I would even say he one of the most influential people of our time.

I believe that some day he will be exposed as a con man that manipulated the financing and projects among his multiple companies with little more than paper ledger entries.

That's a weird article. To quote just one sentence: Any time one citizen receives better treatment than another, for any reason, the scales of justice in government become imbalanced.
Erm, no. Criminals are treated better than non-criminals. People with million dollar lawyers do better than those with public defenders. People with a better understanding of the law do better than those not educated in the process. As I've said previously, law is a representation of the society it exists in. It's not perfect, but perfection does not exist (which the article recognizes too).

At the same time, there will be mistakes made, bad people will get away with crimes, and some will avoid prosecution altogether. We must accept that it's our duty to make the law as fair as possible, to punish those corrupting the system, and weed out the bad apples. But you will never, ever - anywhere in the world - find a completely unbiased and fair justice system. Heck, we have laws in the UK that don't exist in the US at all - is it fair that a US citizen be held to them? Of course!

The article then drifts away on a "only Jesus is qualified to serve as the perfect judge" which is, frankly, ridiculous. Not everyone believes in the Christian faith, so by default this is a half-assed allusion. Our justice system must rule over ALL religions and faiths.

We could debate the man for some time, but he has no role to play in deciding what our society does. I accept his money will help him buy influence, but I see no reason to think he'd do it for anything other than selfish reasons.
That' not my opinion. He's very intelligent. More than I am and I'm not afraid to admit it.

And by the way, he's not impossibly rich, he is rich, period.

We could quibble over what "impossibly rich" means, but when someone can buy Twitter for 44bn, and then paid himself 46bn from Tesla, then I'm going to say that's impossibly rich. There's extreme danger in anyone having as much influence as he has, imo.

Watch out. There's a poster here who had my whole thread deleted because it was about the precious, precocious, Elon Musk.

I honestly don't know who that is, but why would Musk be given protection?

And finally, the first appearances in court for some of the rioters was today. Nice folk these - one of them took the opportunity to steal wine, another started crying. Most were remanded, and a 17 year old got bail. Let's drop the hammer on them.

I've heard some of his views. He strikes me as a buckethead sometimes! @Pepper My comment better not be deleted.

OMG! I would call him a baby! He's a mere child! Someone said it does no good to ask why. I always want to know why someone would kill anyone, let alone innocent children! Despite his innocent childlike face, he did a horrible, unthinkable thing and should be tried as an adult and punished to the fullest extent of the law. My heart goes out to the parents, grandparents other relatives, friends and teachers of those children; not just the deceased, but the injured as well. They deserve justice.

I think we have people on here that are plain jealous of a man with wealth, knowledge and incentive.
I also believe some people don’t like him because of his political views.
This is one of the things wrong with our country. Jealousy and hate will get us nowhere, except what we are seeing today with high inflation, open borders and hate. We can deny all we want, but hate will never make us the strong country we once were.
We used to praise people that were innovators and showed that their incentive pushed them ahead.
