I was shocked to see Tom Cruise hold Kate's hand to help her down some stairs. Will was not all that thrilled.I don't like Tom Cruise either. I was shocked when I read that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be attending his premier of the sequel to "Top Gun:Maverick" in London on May 19. In fact, I read they've already seen it exclusively shown to them by Tom Cruise.
The only thing that bothers me about Walken is that he was around when Natalie Wood drowned and it was all just swept under the rug (water in this case).I LOVE Walken! Super talented, imo, and a decent person. Ever seen him dance? He's a great dancer. His first ambition was to be a pro dancer.
I agree!I LOVE Walken! Super talented, imo, and a decent person. Ever seen him dance? He's a great dancer. His first ambition was to be a pro dancer.
I thought he was 5'5". Just kidding. The biggest laugh I had about Tom Cruise was when he played Jack Reacher in the adaption of the book. In the books, Reacher was 6 foot 5 inches and 230 pounds. Cruise is 5 foot 7 inches.
I've never seen a movie like that!. It stinks.I don't enjoy horror movies or slapstick. Horror movies are just too graphic for me. Exploring the dark side of the human psyche can be interesting, but not when it's accompanied by torture and a lot of blood and guts. I don't like that kind of blood and guts. If I want to watch blood and guts without all the attendant murder and mayhem, I can watch an autopsy.
My father found the Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoons hysterical. He'd bust a gut laughing. What about me? Not at all, even as a kid. I'd look at him like he was an escaped mental patient, lol. The Three Stooges? The hair pulling, slapping, head conks, eye pokes, etc., nope, not funny. My father would laugh like he was deranged. I don't watch that genre because I don't think it's funny.
Before talkies, slapstick was a way of telling a story. The Three Stooges talked, but beating up each other was the way they communicated. Although I'm not fond of slapstick in general, I do have an appreciation for Buster Keaton because, unlike The Three Stooges, he didn't just smack people around for a laugh. He was multidimensional, a performance artist, acrobat, and stuntman, writer, director, and cinematographer.
I enjoy classic film noir, other old movies, documentaries/biographies, and indie films. I also enjoy films with visual effects but not those that rely heavily on obviously computer generated special effects. The best visual effects are the ones you never notice, the ones that don’t take you out of the experience because you don't notice they're there.
This is an example of what I dislike. The entire movie is composed of computer generated effects/green screen.
Two thumbs down.
Overrated IMO.

Agree with you. Most of my life i've been able to separate my feelings about artists (any kind--musicians, painters, poets, writers, performers) as people from my feelings about their art.Maybe sometimes it's better not to know too much about people. You could miss an enjoyable film because of a bias against one of the actors.
I've read that during cinema's golden age studios were careful to protect their star's private lives.
Can you imagine living in the fish bowl these people are in? No wonder so many are alcoholics or take drugs.
Yea, "John Wayne" really?Oh yeah, reading other posts reminds me...I can't stand John Wayne. He was a misogynistic racist. I used to like Mel Gibson until I read about some of his violent actions and racist, misogynistic comments. The way he talked about his ex and mother of his child is disgusting. I also don't like Christopher Walken..find him creepy as well.
DY-NO-MITE!!!Yea, "John Wayne" really?
Even when I was in grade school John Wayne just didn't work for me, there was a disingenuous, phony air about him. And Mel Gibson, what a knucklehead.
...and if I see one more ad with Joe Namath hawking some kind of Medicare Advantage plans....with that whiny voice...."get the benefits you deserve"![]()
Oh...the jailbird.Just thought of another, though not technically an actor—Martha Stewart. Waaaay too perfect
i am not a fan of musicals or horror. i like black and white movies. There are so many threads about actors we love, I was wondering if there are actors you don't care to watch.
I'm sure they are great in their profession, so i guess it's a personal preference.
I'm a big fan of old black and white movies, but I steer away from musicals, slapstick and horror movies.
Do any of you NOT watch a movie because of the genre or the actors? Who or what do you not like to watch in movies?
Haha...I like hundreds of them.Is there anyone you like @palides2021? That sure was a big list!
There's a recent interview with Walken on youtube. He said what he's always said - he doesn't know what happened - he went to his room when Robert and Natalie started arguing, and, thanks to a few drinks, he had no trouble falling asleep. The only thing that bothers me about Walken is that he was around when Natalie Wood drowned and it was all just swept under the rug (water in this case).
Interesting that you mentioned James Cagney and the roles he played. I also didn't like his roles, and probably that swayed me not to watch his movies. I must say, though, his Yankee Doodle Dandy movie was one of my favorites. But not later ones.Usually, when I dislike watching an actor it is due to the role he or she plays. I once commented when I was a kid how I disliked James Cagney as he was such a mean tough guy. Well, he was a friend of my mom's as they had appeared in a couple of shows together. She told me it was a sign of what a good actor he was. When I met him later on, I realized how right she was.
Of course there are many actors and actresses whose personal lives are destestable, but when they have a terrific talent, I have to put who they really are behind me.
James Cagney was one helluva dancer, tho'.Interesting that you mentioned James Cagney and the roles he played. I also didn't like his roles, and probably that swayed me not to watch his movies.
Yes, he was a great dancer! I liked him in the musical (Yankee Doodle Dandy) and I remember I was young then and sang the songs along with the movie. But when I tried watching his other movies, they did not match that one, and I stopped seeing his movies.James Cagney was one helluva dancer, tho'.
He offered his hand and she took it.I was shocked to see Tom Cruise hold Kate's hand to help her down some stairs. Will was not all that thrilled.
