China Using Forced Birth Control On Religious Minorities

Uighurs and other "religious minorities" in China are being subjected to forced birth control and abortions. "
"The Chinese government is taking draconian measures to slash birth rates among Uighurs and other minorities as part of a sweeping campaign to curb its Muslim population, even as it encourages some of the country's Han majority to have more children."
Certain segments of the population are sent to detention camps for having too many children. A link within the article tells of the horrors in those camps."

"Human rights groups say China has detained up to 2 million Uighurs to promote what the government calls "ethnic unity" in the country's far west. On Monday, over 270 scholars from 26 countries released a statement drawing attention to "mass human rights abuses and deliberate attacks on indigenous cultures" taking place in China."

Not at all surprising. There are probably forced abortions going on as well. The Chinese state is ruthless towards any group they see as a threat. Falun Gung people have been similarly oppressed as the indigenous Uighurs.

Hubby and I were in China in 2002 and we learned that the one child policy did not apply to the non Han minorities who were allowed to have as many children as they wished. What is happening now is a turn around by the central authority.

President Xi is not a friend to his own people and we in the West should have no illusions that he is our friend either.
 
The Chinese have a history of abandoning their unwanted children, even now, especially their disabled children; due to the one child policy. My daughters best friend from childhood through now, adopted two sons from China.

One of the little boys was left in a department store. They had intestinal issues, the same issues my daughter‘s friend grew up with and still has. She was uniquely qualified to care for and adopt them. They are lovely boys and very smart. I forget where the other was found.

It is my understanding that due to the one child program, and out of China adoptions, there are not enough females for brides for the males which is why the policy towards having more than one child has been changed. (I saw a special on it.) But I could be wrong.
 
Let China do China, let the USA do the USA. We have a history of sticking our nose in other people’s business and we can’t deal with our own problems. If that is so bothersome to some people, let the UN handle it that’s why it was created.

Did you see the new crackdowns that started in HK on July 1st? Over 300 were arrested and hauled off, some for merely carrying items with pro-independence slogans. While the west is preoccupied with the pandemic and the U.S. in particular is also preoccupied with federal elections, the Chinese government is having a field day. I've never stepped foot in HK since it was "returned" to China.

And then there are the forced "repatriations" on foreign soil...

china would abolish all girls born if they could - even their own =have left them in the gutter to die -so very inhumane
and very sad in this day and age , they have been cutting down on the 2 to a family for many years now '
and the those in the protests who are hauled off to jail -will be in there a very long time ' anyone who goes against the state goverment is usually tortured' or left to die in their prisons .....
 
As I understand it Britain handed back Hong Kong to The Peoples Republic of China in 1997. One country, two systems was a principle agreed and it was also agreed that Hong Kong's legislative agreement and peoples rights and freedoms would remain for 50 years. That agreement was broken by the introduction and passing of a new security law. Opponents of the law say it erodes the territory's freedoms. The law targets secession, subversion and terrorism with punishments of up to life in prison. Britain had no choice but to consider some action which they have voiced. The PM has pledged to open the path to citizenship for almost 3 million Hong Kong residents.

Just noting a few points. ☺
 
When the events of Tiananmen Square were seen by our then PM Bob Hawke, he immediately moved to allow all Chinese living in Australia on temporary visas to stay indefinitely if they chose to. Our current PM, Scott Morrison, is talking about doing the same for HK Chinese that are studying or working here. However, because of travel restrictions there are a lot less today.

I just wish our governments were as sympathetic towards asylum seekers who try to arrive by boat.
