The problem is, there are no stats and science to backup what they are saying. And we were told the world was ending after peak oil in the 70's. Funny how oil never peaked. More pumped now than ever before. The 90's and another -the sky is falling- proved more lies. Never had ocean levels rise. Not a mm of rise. The current fear is temp records. Well temps taken in the middle of cities are notoriously incorrect. Way higher than real temps. Concrete, steel, rock, windows etc either absorb or reflect the heat. There is little doubt that the climate IS changing.....as it has done many times over the centuries. The problem NOW is that there are billions of people living in low lying coastal areas, in major population centers/cities, that are at increasing risk IF the predictions of rising oceans, etc., come true. Thousands of years ago, the people could simply fold their tents, and move to more favorable areas. That option no longer exists, and IF the oceans DO rise, those people will lose everything they own, and trillions of dollars of urban development, etc., will be abandoned.
There is little chance that those of us living today will be affected, but those living in the next century, and beyond, may be faced with tragic issues we can only imagine. Even if all the fossil fuel use, etc., was ceased today, the existing pollutants would continue to cause the climate to warm for decades. We are well into the "tipping point" where the damage has already been done.
My parents living in Canada used to spend the summers at their farm. From about June to end of Aug they would spend it in the country.
Where they lived, and I will give details as it serves in this situation. Transcona in Winnipeg would be 32-36 C and even hit 40C with the humidity some days in the summer. Their farm in Cooks Creek (about 20 min drive) never hit 32 ever. The farm has been in our family since 1870's. My parents, grandparents, and they said the GG always spent summers there. And it had no ac.
So all these records broken in summer in the center of Chicago, Phoenix, London, wherever are to be taken with a grain of salt to be sure.
As well the news is somehow not covering nightime low records that are being broken. See the next post.
