Forum member seriously injured

Know of several accidents within the past few years that airbags didn't deploy.
When they first started using them they deployed too easily and blew out people's ear drums and windows sometimes. My guess they re did the sensors over the decades to prevent accidental deployment especially with side air bags now.

well no side airbags or front airbags deployed and given the force with which my car was hit, and overturned 3 times... I don't know what else you'd have to do to get them to deploy... I could have been killed there was no airbag protecting me

Sounds like a sensor/circuit was damaged micro seconds before a possible deployment or there might have been an existing issue which should trigger an alarm or dashboard light.

The car's black box should have that information.

I don't know maybe the bags not deploying might be why you are here today:)

I've heard other stories about people being in accidents where you would expect the air bags to deploy, but they hadn't. (None as extreme as your crash, but still.) People are always surprised when they don't. So maybe they aren't really that reliable. Pretty disturbing; if that's the case, we are mistakenly depending on something that may do nothing at all.

yes precisely that because I'm sure most of us think if we're in a collision then the bags will deploy and hopefully save us from death if not injury...

I was wondering if I should actually contact Ford.. and ask them why they didn't go off.... but I wouldn't know who to contact tbh.... or if indeed it would be an entire waste of time

I know people who would sue Ford for airbags not deploying like they were designed to do. Have a great lawyer if this happened to me. Unfortunately he is here, not London.

Americans are always looking for a good lawsuit. I think you have one.

Problem is that would be UK lawsuit. The European division is probably an LLC which would probably seperate itself from the core company in the US. And cars made and sold out of country frequently have different design features or lack there of. The lawyer would have to be familiar with UK law and European car requirements.

Tody the Insurance company paid out for all the groceries which were lost in the crash.... because I had cover for that up to £150..

Talk about nit-picking.. they asked me to send proof .. I told them the receipts were in the car with the groceriess and was now crushed... so they asked for my bank statement ( god alone knows what would have happened if I'd paid by cash)......

I sent them my bank statement which clearly shows that at Sainsbury I spent X amount plus £16.00 at their fuel station, and at the next door supermarket M&S I spent another X amount.. the total came to £149.. and change.... which excluded the £60 insulated trolley bag which I'd just got not long before...

Today they sent me £133.00..... they took the Fuel cost off... even tho' I'd just filled up with fuel 5 miinutes before ...

It just seemed a bit mean to me...
You should have invited them to come smell the smashed, rotten bananas and see the maggots, @hollydolly don’t mean to be gross but sheesh…. Who’s head of this company, E Scrooge?!

She'd be opening a can of worms, which is probably the last thing she needs now.

But I wonder if England has some road safety organization that should look into this.
trouble is even if I found some organisation who could or would look into it , they couldn't do any tests on the car because the car is now toast.. and is probably being used to make something else...

Rip.. little car ... for anyone that has only seen the smashed up version.. this was my car before...

ugh ! CS...it was stomach churning to see all that in the car.....I even told them this, ... but you're right...Ebeneezer must have been the head of dept..... :(

Most of the Auto bone yards have gone around here. The wrecks go to
auction yards for sell offs for parts or crushed like yours Holly. Many
vehicles get hit in the rear due to high speeds on Intercity expressways.
Hope you are feeling better with each passing day. Your exercise trips
will help you lots.

Holly, the new Kia is nice, but I think you'd look hot in a red 2dr convertible! It would make a nice present to yourself after what you've been through.

yes I agree I'd look fabulous in that.. but I can tell you from experience when you have a nice sports car in this country... as we did with the Maserati.. every clown want to race you.... and I do not want any childish idiot putting my life at risk because of the style of my car...

BTW the new car isn't red the earlier picture was just an example of the model......... this is the real new one....... A nice little (hopefully) safe car ( registration blanked out)

Love the cheery blue!

Yes, not red, but definitely a nice non-boring color. Easy to find in a car park. I like it!
that was one of my must have's... my previous car was black, so that was pretty hard to find in the car park... and the most common colours silver or grey, are even worse to be able to find.. so I wanted something that was a little different, but wasn't too much of a lary colour.. and this new Cornflower blue filled that criteria I felt... (y)

Yeah, mine is a grey Toyota......as are, it seems, 90% of the other cars in the parking lot.

we don't have freedom of speech any longer Sunny.... it's all an illusion...

yes in answer to your question...its been a month since the accident, and I'm a lot better than I was then... however, I still have very painful ribs which stop me sleeping in bed because I can't lie down.. I have to sit up... and my arm and hand atho' getting better.. and super fast according to the District nurses who come in a couple of days a week... I'm healing very fast say them.. they say I'm expecting too much given it's only been 4 weeks ....

I still can't use my right hand , in that I can't grip anything.... and I have further tests to be done... but aside from all that..I'm improving each day little by little.. thank you for asking and being my Cheerleader...

My goodness, those pictures tell a scary story!!! It's good to hear you are getting better, if but - the process is surely slow and arduous!

I am so sorry for what happened, and send a big heap of well wishes your way!!! 💐

Keep getting well!

bless you CaliS..it's been a roller coaster and yet it's only been 4 weeks and 3 days. I've seen more medical professionals in the last 4 weeks than I've seen in 10 years.....

I'm not someone who can sit and wait for anythig much less recovery from injuries, and I'm pushing myself too hard so I;m told by the doctor and nursing staff ..who come in twice a week to the house ... and expecting too much too soon.. but I fear if I don't I'll end up being old before my time, because of the accident..if you see what I mean... and I'm definitely usually a very active person.....I don't want to end up fearing the unknown or unexpected because of the the accidnet,,, and then find myself not wanting to leave the house or to travel far... so that's another eason for me trying to run before I can walk

That car will look great & you feel up to going back to your beaches Doll !
I'm guessing later August early September - ish for some sun time. ... :coffee: ...
sounds like a great restore life plan too.

Your determination will get you a long way - I can't imagine you backing down for a minute. I'm sorry I haven't kept up as faithfully as I should with what has been happening lately, but I have been going through your posts. It's good to see your progress and the picture of your nice new car. Things are on the way to becoming much better.

The thing is, you likely have grounds for a lawsuit against the car manufacturer, unless there was a recall for airbag problems that you did not heed.

I would call an attorney. Surely with the pictures and the people who helped you testifying no airbags were deployed, the fact that your car is now a cube should not have much bearing on the case. After all, you only knew the airbags didn't deploy because someone told you. So you have witnesses, credible ones.
