Just got home a little while ago... I can't tell you what a PITA it was trying to get my refund... jeezus....... but to save boring you all with the tale.. suffice it to say I finally got it..after waiting 40 minutes for someone who could deal with it.. and several phone calls in store..

Then I drove to the Garden centre, and returned the walking boots I bought in December ... I never return things.. I can count on one hand how many times in my life I have.. so it was very odd doing it twice on one day ( kinda)....

Again a problem.. she said ''but you've worn these''..Yes, says I... one day.. but they won't stay tied up''.. but we can't sell these again if you've worn them , says she... nope says I... but I can't tell they're not fit for purpose if I didn't wear them...

You'll never believe what she did next... she took her boots off and put mine on.. and walked around in them.....:oops:... finally she admitted that the laces were not staying tied.. and then she said.. well what about a discount and you can buy new laces ?

This is a High end garden centre... with a high end clothing store attached !

I said no... and finally got my money back.... good grief... !!

DD's family adopted a golden retriever pup just before Christmas. This is in addition to their elderly chihuahua. They're doing a Disneyland weekend and are bringing both dogs to us tonight and picking them up Monday.

The last time we dealt with a puppy was over 30 years ago. This little guy is adorable, rambunctious, a chewing machine, and needs to be taken out every hour or so for potty opportunities during waking hours. At night he sleeps in a crate and generally cries to go out at about 3 AM.

Our dog, who some may remember is a quite skittish rescue from a hoarding/abusive situation, is very comfortable with the chihuahua, but doesn't know what to make of this little creature who is fascinated by him and follows him around.

Should be interesting. Since Monday is Martin Luther King Day, DDIL will be off work, so we won't have toddler grandson. Kind of a good thing, I think, because with the three dogs it'll already be hellzapoppin around here.

I'm making crackers with my sourdough discard. That is the sourdough starter that you discard before you feed the remaining.
I started a new one after the holiday as mine had been in the frig forgotten about for many months. You can revive it but I never thought it was a healthy one to begin with.

I just put my good brand, personal sized frozen pizza into my 450F oven for brunch....and my glasses fell off and down into the hot oven!

Grabbed the closest thing... a knife sharpening steel, and after several attempts managed to get them out. I was so afraid of what they would look like but they're fine. (Whew)

Nice day today so far. Maybe I'll go to Walmart.

Another lovely day baking 🥐 and 🍞 and 🍪 and stuff. Sir was off today. Worked with NL; she'll be off tomorrow.

Kids, lemme tell ya about cold 🥶! It's cold and rainy 🌧️ and windy 🌬️ and a good day to stay inside. However, all that flap about tornadoes and stuff all week long and again early this morning? Pfffft. Maybe somewhere but not bloody likely here. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few sNOw flakes, though. Next week we're gonna see temps plunging into the teens at night. Whaaaat? If god wanted me to be cold, she wouldn't have led me to the South!

After telling @Trila about hamburger veggie soup yesterday, I got hungry for hamburger veggie soup. I bought the stuff on my break, and "built" soup as soon as I got home. It. Smells. Divine. If I'd had good sense, I'd have snatched up a loaf of nice, crusty French bread, too. Nobody ever said I have good sense.

Just another walkabout this morning. There is a little creek running in the ravine but not visible on the picture.

When I took off their leashes, then Heidi promptly ate some coyote poop, probably will get worms that I have to treat with Fenbendazole. I would like to let the pups run around but there are problems. For example: years ago I hiked a narrow path on a mountain with Doberman Betsy. I had to adjust her collar, she slipped out of my hands, run off and started chasing a coyote. I searched all over fearing the worst. In tears I finally went back to my car. There she was waiting seemingly asking me, "where have you been all the time?" And I have plenty of such stories to tell. Dogs are wonderful hiking companions, but sometimes they have a mind of their own.

Drove over 2 1/2 hours on slippery roads to Hibbing, MN to have my problem root canal and tooth removed as I did not want to be taking all this ibuprofen! Otherwise I would have to wait to next Tuesday to get this done closer to home. Now I need to get an implant for that missing tooth so I can chew on that side again. And I am just finishing the process of getting implants on the teeth opposite of this one! At least now I am on little or no ibuprofen. Taking two antibiotics however that seem to be making me a little whoozy.

I went to the TOPs market- about 23 miles away for some more provisions in case we get more bad weather soon, and I was in and out, and stuck to my list. I love blueberries-they are good for you and they were on sale with other berries, 2 packs for price of one (5.99) and chuck steak for stew or brasciolle (sp?)***, some seas scallops, and some chocolate milk.

And a box of frozen mussels in light tomato sauce. It took mere minutes to heat up and I almost ate the whole box already, with some garlic bread.

***Brasciolle- I pound chuck or any type of steak into squares about 5 by 5 inches, cover with fresh chopped garlic and chopped Italian flat parsley, parmesan cheese, and salt and coarse black pepper and roll them up and tie the ends tight with kitchen string.

Then I brown them lightly in a frying pan and add to my tomato sauce in a crock pot and cook at low for a few hours.

When the rolls are cooked and cooled a little I slice them into little rounds of goodness and serve them on top of linguini and the hot sauce . Rana Linquini is pricey but almost as good as making them from scratch.

I was glad to get home, and even with only 2 errands , the Food Market and the Post Office, it took me about 2 hours and it started to get very dusky by 3 PM.

Well... it's 4:45 pm and no word from the auto shop. The lady in the office assured me that although they normally close at noon on Fridays, "someone will be here and we'll have it back to you before the end of the day." I've tried calling several times and no one answers. Both my sons are at work and cannot take me down there. So.... I guess it will be an interesting, car-less weekend. Not real happy right now, but what can you do? I doubt I'll use them for the actual work, though, if they can't do what they said. Sigh

It sounds delicious! 😋

Oh, I love Zuppa di Mussels w/ tomato! Also Beef Braciole!
I think I want to eat at your house.......

I got back from my one night trip to NYC last night, it was almost midnight when I got home because the train was an hour delayed (there were other trains but my ticket was a cheap deal item and I'd have had to pay twice as much to buy a different ticket).

I'm kind of laughing at myself now, I planned and prepped and worried like I was going to Mars, but everything was just fine. The hotel really was in easy walking distance and I could even (reassuringly) see its sign from the train station corner. There were no bedbugs, the room was sparkly clean (tho had rather quaintly antique doors, knobs, and faucets), there was a nice view of the city, and I slept fine.

Other than first going the wrong direction on the subway, then being in the wrong subway line in a more correct direction, before finally learning to read the signs and boards and train markings and ride the right one in the correct direction, traveling around was very doable. Nobody tried to mug me, the New Yorkers were not rude at all, and one nice born-and-raised-in-Brooklyn person helped me when I didn't know how to tap my credit card to pay for the bus - and when it didn't work after a couple tries she told me to just go ahead and sit down, that I had "tried" and that was good enough! The bus driver didn't seem to mind either. o_O

The helpful person also let me know when it was my stop to get off and while chatting I'd mentioned how people ignored the crosswalk signs and she said in New York that is normal and okay, so I tried ignoring them myself (when safe to do so), I felt so lawless!

Completely by random luck I arrived at the Met museum 5 minutes before a free museum tour started, and although it felt at times like I was in a marathon walking race through a maze, it was a very nice tour.

Then I walked across Central Park to get back to the subway stop. Trying to walk through the park was almost as confusing as the subway system, because the paths kept curving away from the direction I wanted to go, thank goodness for smart phones and apps that guide a person places (tho I realize now I spent so much time staring at my phone I missed out on seeing the park itself).

View from my hotel room, and my attempt at a selfie in Central Park (which turns out to have a lake!). I think my arms are too short to do selfies.

I hand- washed a p.j. top, and hung it to dry.:)

I played a dangley rope game with my cat.
She is quite old so she plays for a few minutes, then she sits and stares, and watches me play it by myself. :ROFLMAO:
But it seems like it gives her day, something different to think about. :giggle:

I made a special little calender to help Dh remember a routine of his.

I admired my 2 amaryllises which are finally both in full bloom!
One started before the other, but the later one caught up, and both have 2 bud stems each, with one of them starting a third bud stem.
