Good morning, my friends!

Seems our winter is making a final stand - cool and rainy today and tomorrow with highs at 57°F (13.8°C) both days. Monday forward shows very low chances of rain and temps from 71-83F (21.6-28.3C) through the next two weeks. This week we'll cover the pool to start warming it and dramatically reduce summer evaporation.

Today we'll have TGS, then tomorrow our two older grandchildren. Not taking the toddler for the night - that starts up again next weekend. Except for the annoyance of lingering post-nasal drip, I'm fully recovered from the two March nasties that sidelined me (flu then Covid). Even so, for the next couple of weeks DH & I will don masks when in stores or other indoor public spaces.

I did some research and learned this: "Evidence is building of the negative impact of COVID on a healthy individual’s immune system, several weeks after symptoms have subsided."
I’ve had COVID and am constantly getting colds. Did COVID harm my immune system? Am I now at risk of other infectious diseases?

Looks like earlier generations had it right - our bodies need time to snap back fully after illness.

@hollydolly & @Trila, I'm sorry you're not feeling well and hope you're both back in the pink soon.

When sick, my go-to light meal is regular applesauce on lightly toasted bread with a little cinnamon sprinkled over top. The oil in butter or peanut butter, much as I ordinarily love the latter, would make them non-starters. I think people's bodies tell them what is most likely to be tolerated, if anything.

Feet propped up on the coffee table, good stuff on tv, cook a great meal, and a beer and relax with a nice breeze coming in and blowing the curtains around. Life is good. It's not what you have, but how you enjoy the little things in life.

Thank you!!! I'm finally starting to feel better. Today, I even felt well enough to skate. It's been a few weeks, since I was so sick, but I'm making a comeback! 😁

I like your advice about the immune systems.
Both Dio and I have had a total of 3 COVID shots...two regular and one booster. After that booster, we both keep getting sick and and it seems to take soooo long to get over our various illnesses. I will never get another COVID shot!

Happiness is going for a walk and listen to birds singing, as I do with my pups every morning.

The high-pitch screams of hawks remind me of the Alaska's wilderness.

The gentle cooing of doves reminds me of my Mom singing a lullaby to put me asleep.
Good evening, and good night,
With roses adorned,
With carnations covered,
Slip under the covers.
Early tomorrow, so God willing,
you will wake once again.

But my favorites are Mockingbirds because of their large repertoire of songs. Some 50 years ago, I found a fledgling fallen out of its nest and still unable to fly. We nourished it mostly with mealy worms till it was strong enough to fly. Yes, it pooped on my wife's hair, and she is cursing me to this day for my love of animals. Eventually we opened the window and let it go. The first day, it came back in the evening to spend the night again with us. But then it never came back. Every time I hear now a mockingbird singing in our garden, I imagine that it is our "Charlie" and start smiling.

Last summer, my wife bought two little chicks, and our rooster was supposed to be an egg-laying hen. But by now, we fell in love with its daylong crowing, and sometimes even during the night. It always reminds me of my happiest days as a kid, living on a farm.

During WWII in Germany, my mother took us children from Berlin to a peaceful farm near the Austrian border. I still have many memories. For example, when the farmer with his grass-cutting machine killed a baby rabbit, I was crying and crying, and buried it near the house. When we visited that place in 2019, I still remembered the exact spot where I had buried the poor little thing.

The Building on the right side of the picture was a dairy. At the end of the war, it was ordered to clean out all cheese. Our family obtained a whole wheel of my favorite Swiss cheese, perhaps 100 pounds. I stuffed myself not realizing that so much cheese without any fiber creates a real problem of digestion, LOL.

I was guarding the farmer's cows on a meadow, but came home for lunch on the dirt road in the center of the picture. There I saw strange men bargaining with farmers for chickens. At that time, I didn't realize this was the end of the war, and that we were occupied by Moroccans on donkeys serving in the French army. My family and the farmers were frightened. Moroccans were supposed to eat little kids like me; but in my experience, they were the friendliest and most gentle occupation forces of the war.

@packleader I didn't know you're a Prussian...a friend of mine was, too, and often proclaimed, "Ich bin Preuße und kenne meine Farben!"

I'm in for the day. Well, in from the garden. I'll go back outside and sit on the teeny, tiny patio again. It's a perfectly lovely day and much too nice to sit inside.

Darned weeds! When I've finished one section, they've already grown back in another . They serve a purpose, I'm sure, but can't think what on earth it could be.

The rest of the flowers I bought during the week have been planted. I hope they're happy where they've landed.

I have a Mocking Bird every year that perches on a dogwood branch outside my kitchen window. So many songs.
In the fall I watched him try so hard to find a mate. He left so I wonder if he found one and moved into her pad.

I'm trying so hard to relax on the weeds. They have their purpose but it's never ending.
I have one spot that one winter I thought these "plants" looked pretty like a nice ground cover. In the spring they became tall, weedy, invasive ugly weeds! I've fought them for years.
The other day I took to them with my rechargeable hand trimmer (a great tool btw). Zip, zip, gone!
I know they'll be back but it beat pulling them.

Perhaps it takes longer to more fully recover, and for the immune system to get back to its usual, but then hopefully not have that even longer effect.
That's what I hope, anyway. For you, and for all of us.
It took me a very long time, to get over the covid case I had in late Fall.

@hollydolly and @Trila
I too, hope that you both feel better soon.

Another wet rainy day this cool so far spring. Got out and walked 2+ miles in warm waterproof clothing and mr dave, enroute at a strip mall, ate too too much sugar and chocolate again today. That included from the Dollar Tree, a mile walk in light rain from my residence, 3.0 ounces or 6 pieces for $2.50 worth of Cello brand chocolate covered cherries.

Given a mostly sunny single digit at most breeze weather forecast, it looks like Monday morning 4/15/24 will be a 70 mile freeway drive south down to the Monterey Peninsula for an a6700 photo visit to magnificent Point Lobos State Natural Reserve at its most green and flowery spring period . Tide tables show a decent -0.2 foot low tide about noon that is lower than average and the best time of day with a high sun altitude to get best saturation colors off rock surface.s

Then Saturday 4/20/2024 is late morning 55 mile drive north to San Francisco for some unplanned Golden Gate park whatever crowd that shows up fun with weather forecasting mostly sunny 63F degree high with usual breezes. Spring has been decently productive despite not being close to the wet winter of 2023.

Good morning folks.. Just back from a short holiday in Stavanger, Norway.
We flew directfrom Aberdeen which was great not having to suffer the hell that is Heathrow. This is the first time that we had used the Norwegian airline Wideroe, and the service was absolutely first class both ways. I wish that British airways was as good.

Here's a photo of a similar plane at Aberdeen airport. It's a De Haviland Dash 8 - with 78 seats.

I'm sorting out some photos that I'll post in the 'Photography' section later today.

My daughter and SIL wanted to move their family closer to family. Well, yesterday, a lot of that family showed up to grand daughter's birthday.
She made out like bandit! 😊 Between family and neighbor friends it turned out to be quite a party. Fun and I'm happy we can all get together at the same time. They should be happy to not have to have three separate grand parent visits. 🙂

Glorious day again today... altho' it was forecast to be cloudy and chilly... it is Fully sunshine and very warm.....🌞🌞
I'm still not well enough...frustratingly.. to go out yet. Still suffering a bit..😣

Thankfully I have my sun trap garden to escape to, not quite as nice as going down to the river or into the woods.. but better than not having a garden. I've been out there already this morning.. it's looking beautiful even if I say so myself...

I did get 10 minutes on the Treadmill this morning. ..but I can only do it in short bursts because the effects of the steroid injections which I had in December has worn off my knees, particularly the right knee, so it's pretty painful...

Anyway... hopefully everyone here is going to have a lovely Sunday... 🌷
