I sat down at an easel today and sketched from a photo. I haven't done this in 22 years. Although unpracticed, this was fairly easy for me to do. I'm getting past the shock of last year's events and starting life anew.
I stand in awe of this kind of talent. Good for you for picking it back up again.

Welcome to the forum and this thread!

I had a shopping list and was putting off actually going to the shops but, today, I decided to brave the wintry weather and spend some money.

Actually, it turned out a nice day :)

I bought some gifts (not for me this time :ROFLMAO:) and enjoyed just browsing around at all the Christmas stuff. The shops are all decorated and some have Christmas music. One shop was giving out mince pies and mulled wine - I am not a fan of mince pies but, the mulled wine was nice ;). Popped into the coffee shop before I came home and it was really nice sitting there, relaxing and watching the world go by.
so , I dunno where you are in the home counties, but you need to tell them to call over here to let them know it;s Christmas...apart from the crowds.. and believe me there have been some HUGe crowds.. nothing is really saying Christmas .

DD said the same thing today.. she lives 2 hours north...

I was surprised it wasn't busier. There were shoppers about and some long queues so, they were buying rather than browsing. You would have thought though, that the shops would all be making the most of the pre-Christmas shoppers. We have some shopping to do next week and I expect it will be very busy. I avoid big shopping centres so, perhaps the smaller stores/branches are making more effort.

Now that it’s been discussed and thinking about it, there’s not many Christmas themed stores around here. I’ll have to check out some smaller stores. One fairly large store has new owners who aren’t originally from Canada and there’s very few festive items. This is their first year. I don’t know if this will hurt them.

The craft fairs have had themes and have been well attended.

Slept 9pm to 8am
Got up made the bed, wash face, brush teeth, put my hair up.

RR'd the back yard; all my newly planted trees, shrubs I planted from redesigning the backyard doing fine.
We have clear Arizona skies; cold clear sky night desert weather froze the bird water last night.
Is 66 now - that will be the high for today it seems.
Broke up the ice in the birdies water dish on the patio, refilled it. Checked their food.

Coffee with DH, morning chatting with him done.
He eats breakfast, I don't.
Read the WSJ, Financials.
Answered some emails and text messages; computer time.

Retrieved Christmas decor box from under the guest room bed and closet.
Changed water in flowers I got last week - they still look 5 on a 1-10 scale.

Scheduled an appointment with a builder. Working to not get hopes up again.
Need to go pick out new prescription sunglasses but budget still not cooperating for that.

Planning to go find some fabric/do-dads/ribbon this afternoon to make these really cute fabric Christmas trees for gifts my sister* turned me on to. They can be either used as a wreath or wall hanging. Need to check cash "fun money" account before I go spend. *I had an devastating loss several years ago. Along with other family things, I lost all my family Christmas/decorating things for holidays, kids memory makers, etc, from 40 years collecting.

Therefore, for the last few years I have been making new things, memories, ideas to restore that loss; my sister is encouraging me by giving me in expensive ways to restore on a retiree budget. Last year I made 100 outdoor luminaries which I now have. This is to line my home paths/walks/walls with for the two weeks before Christmas. I no longer want to risk climbing ladders to hang Christmas lights - IF I even had any to hang. Some of our neighbors do the Griswald thing and there is a competition it seems, to win $250.00 prize money.

Can't do the Griswald and certainly can't pay someone to hang Griswald type scenario...and would not if I could. To me: Griswald scenarios make a home look as if Christmas lights were vomited out the front door. So tacky.
I am more a minimalist decorator, non-commercialized. Besides, my kiddos grew up long ago.

I signed up for health care insurance today. I've been without it since April of this year, and that makes me so nervous.

I have to buy my own insurance because I'm an independent contractor, and boy, are those plans expensive! I found one that I think I can afford. It's not a great plan, but it's better than nothing. 😟

Welp, the doc visit went okay...got the required shots, and doc
did some testing on my eye issue, while I will be going to
an eye specialist, the doc is leaning towards simply needing an
upgrade in my prescription...so will see about that .....then went
by bank and had to sit in outside lane forever due to some
one running business stuff thru, but got money for everyone
and now trying to figure out what to eat, also gonna be
busy learning this newfangled streaming tv business....oh the
horror !!!!!)!):p:devilish:o_O

Well have you ever felt exhuasted just reading through some threads... phew... it's all going on isn't it ?:D:D

I lost most of today.. clearly not very well, I just kept falling asleep , must have slept 6 hrs in total during the daylight hours.. ultimately waking up at 1.30am on the sofa sitting upright...

2.15am n, I have a cup o tea.... and I fear I may be up the rest of the night.. I hope not but we'll see.. I know I don't feel right..nothing specific aside from a headache on one side of my temple.. but just generally not right...

I just realise it's my youngest sisters' 62nd birthday... I remember her being brought home from the hospital in the worst winter the country had ever seen, snow drifts 8 feet high .. and the parents didn;t have a cot for her so they had her sleep in a deep drawer...( clearly the drawer was taken out of the chest)... but wow.. that was 62 years ago..incredible...🙃

Getting ready for Christmas here, the grandkids put the tree up, I put Santa up, had two people come by the house to talk about my book, going to cook Bar-B-Que, make baked beans , and potato salad for my grandson tomorrowal for dinner, cold around Roy, Utah now, not much snow, I'm doing well still doing my walk everyday, watching my diet, eating my grits, took my picture the otherday. Thats all for now, good night.

Took care of some business online: canceled Netflix again, made an appointment for next week with my PCP, finished registering my songs with ASCAP and posted a tribute to my Daughter-In-Love on Facebook. She passed away 3 years ago on the 11th. I also responded to private messages here on the forum.

Yay! Grandson Day! By extension, People Day! Haven't been outside in three days, Cabin Fever! I have decided to love everyone I see today, even AccessARide! How's that?

Will be busy next few days. Tomorrow, Library Book Club. Saturday, pulmolmolgist for clearance for colonoscopy in a couple of weeks. Then, son/grandson coming over for rest of Saturday.

Looking forward to fellow humans after my three day hermitage! Stir CRAZY!

@hollydolly It's 11am there now. Did you go back to sleep or are you still wide awake?

It's cold here and only supposed to be in the low 50s today but with "abundant sunshine" and a cold north wind. Abundant sunshine won't do much good if there's a cold north wind. Have I mentioned that I hate winter?

Today is lunch with DS/DSIL. Been looking forward to it for a couple of weeks...downside is paying a king's ransom for round-trip Uber. I should have bought stock.

ETA: It's December 12. I just saw an ad on my homepage for Valentines:rolleyes:

Thanks for asking Gigi... I did get back to sleep but not until 6am.. then I slept for 4 hours, but at least I made it to my bed this time... (y)

Another grey dull day today 45 deg currently.. I'm just doing the laundry at the moment.. can't hang it out, so it gets hung in the spare room for now... I do detest this not having a tumble dryer, I keep looking for new ones that will fit in the cupboard but those little ones don't seem to be suitable.. *sigh*.. anyway.. at least i have the space to dry the stuff even if it is a PITA...

Enjoy your wonderful day with your son and his partner, Gigi... I hope they spoil you..

Agreed, being outdoors during wet rainy or snowy windy weather will tend to be unpleasant regardless of how well warmly one is dressed.

But when merely cold, winter can be enjoyed outdoors if dressed appropriately. After new snowfalls landscapes may be quite wonderfully beautiful. As a thin person that easily becomes chilled and decades old snow skier, the one thing most people fall short on outdoors in cold is not covering up enough of their body areas. Oh sure, they are wearing huge heavy coats that keeps their core area warm enough if moving about but the head, hands, and feet are often inadequately covered. Layering clothing is the most flexible strategy that outdoor enthusiasts have long understood.

Head gear is the most often ignored and the one area most easily to feel uncomfortable if chilly. That is in part because in public settings many people for social reasons do not want to cover up their heads and faces. That is most evident watching working people in large downtown cities during noon lunch breaks rushing about outside. Despite heavy coats, almost none have any head gear, even hats, much less heavyweight balaclavas.
That is so pretty. Reminds me of Birch trees in New England but are these Ashe trees?

Good morning all folks!!! Slept well last nite for a change...it
was busy what with doc and streaming tv, suppose I'll get
a call about eye doc today, also have some meds coming in
today....don't know what to expect with the streaming business
found out last eve that my remote "ears" don't work while streaming, so got to figure out thaat problem...lots of sore
joints today, but no irritation from the two shots...so okay,
may live another day!!!!!! catch you later..... ;):coffee:

Izzi loudly and clearly demanded breakfast before the alarm went off. Maine Coons have lungs and vocabulary:>) So piping hot coffee in bed waking up by the sip.
AT&T went up again! I am about to get carrier pidgeons!
It is going to be a beautiful day! Let's make it a good day! A bit of yard work, a bit of housework, a bit of fun stuff.

Good Morning kids,
Well, we got the backsplash all installed yesterday, it took Lorie and me two days, and we are grouting it tomorrow Today we go to the big city to have my yearly nerve conductivity test done on my foot... Usually feel nothing up to 10 on the left foot, and 1 knocks the other leg up in the air...The temperature here is -8, but next week it is supposed to get up to 6... so there goes the snow we got last week... That's about it for me... Hope everyone has a GREAT day..
Cheers
