Some Seniors (hate calling folks that, but truth is...….) are very "up-to-date" with modern things and knowledge, while others definitely aren't.

Computer knowledge

Music/Music Players

Modern things, like: Blu-Ray DVD Home Player, Big Screen TV, Home/Auto CD Player

Photo Storage


Wife and I both know about computers and how they work. Wife doesn't, but I'm usually ordering something online. I started using my first computer in 1988, in a library and have been going ever since. All of our music is on CD's and we listen to a combo of Oldies, Motown, Disco, Classic Rock and Country. Our Country music consists of George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, Diamond Rio, Alan Jackson, Chris LeDoux among others. Have a Blu-Ray DVD Player hooked up to our tv. Even have a DVD Player in our 2005 Dodge Durango. It came installed in it. Have a 44" tv with a Bar Sound System. All of photos are now on usb aka Flash Drives. Have them at home and a copy of each in bank SDB. Lots of scanning of prints to computer and transferring to the Flash Drives. Oh, and can't forget our Home Goggle Unit. Other than my wife calling me at her break/lunch, the Google lady is the only voice I can talk to at home. LOL, but true.

So, just how "modern" are you?
 

Positively antiquated ;). I spent my career in Electronics and IT, and while I have an academic interest in modern technology, I'm happy to do without it. OK, I've got a computer and laptop that are useful for online banking and shopping as I live in a rural area. I've got a 'smart' TV only because it was on offer and I don't use any of its facilities. My most useful (and most used gadget) is my cordless drill/screwdriver. It's invaluable in maintaining my (almost) 200 year old house!
 

All of the above. Laptop and smart phone, constant use of both for work, teach clients that want to learn how to get more tech savvy. I'm not much into music, but stream to my phone or my computer whatever/whenever. Have the blue ray, have the big screen TV. Also have netflix, amazon prime etc. Don't do much with CD's. Don't need to, not with streaming and bluetooth and Sirius radio.

Lots and lots of photo storage, on my computer, on an external drive, and in the cloud. Also thumb drives for convenience.

Hip and cool too, just like Keesha, but without the missing front tooth ;) My kids also say I'm "edgy" because I have piercings and ink and turquoise or pink or whatever I feel like that week. They all "complain" that out of 5 kids and 10 grandkids, I'm the oldest in the bunch, but the ONLY one with tattoos and punk hair. :lol:
 
Yeah you’re cool Ronni.
I’ use blue tooth with my old iPhone with a Bose headset at the gym and it’s compatible in my car.
I’m more than adequate on my iPhone and can certainly work the DVD since I do yoga most mornings. I’m only just leaning about recording things on tv because we only just got that option so I’m not doing too bad but there definitely is room for improvement.

My husband is far better at these things
 
I Think I'm modern.. certainly in the way I dress, and a really modern hip type of guy in his thirties said to me recently..''I like you because you may be in your 60's but you're young thinking ''..so I think that was a compliment.. :D

I have most modern conveniences and used a computer since the late 80's ..Currently I have a Mac Mini computer ( it's my birthday in a few weeks so I'm getting the newest and latest All in one Apple Mac)...to kindle, Ipad, and Iphone, all of which are used constantly . Around the house we have a smart TV., Google Home downstairs and Amazon echo upstairs. and many gadgets around the home which run by remote control, including all our lighting .. High end cars, as well as a boat.. etc.. Holidays abroad... etc..

I'm not sure those make me modern, but hey it's more modern than my granny... :D
 
Technology amazes me but I have no interest in it or aptitude for it!

I can usually figure things out or find the information that I need but I would rather not have to deal with it.

I order online,I can search for something if need be,save photos and fix them a bit. Lighten or darken, adjust the size and That's about it. I have a very basic tracfone for emergencies only and haven't even mastered that. I don't use it enough to text fast enough. One time we were visiting my daughter,she asked me something by texting. By the time I texted her back we were in her driveway.
 
I'm going through an interesting collision between ancient and modern. I recently started the huge project of dealing with the literally thousands of slides of my family, starting in the 1950's. My husband never believed in taking one picture if 500 would do. The slides are partly in storage books and partly in canisters that fit into the slide projector.

The problem is, most of them are very good. They are wonderful to look at, for me anyway. The scenery ones are gorgeous, some of them masterpieces. The pictures of all of us down through the years - well how can you throw those out?

However, how much interest will my 6 grandchildren and all their descendants have in a bunch of old slides? Maybe enough to glance at them if they are digitized and easy to look at, otherwise not. With Instagram, Facebook, their phones, etc. they have more than enough pictures to look at. So, I've got to decide what to do with them. Otherwise, they will just sit in the storage room down in the basement, and when the time comes, probably get pitched out with the trash. Which would be a shame.
 
I suppose it all depends on what you mean by "up-to-date/modern". I'm about as "up-to-date/modern" as I care to be. I'm perfectly capable of mastering anything I choose to, but since retiring I find myself focusing more and more on those things that I truly enjoy. I've no personal interest in the latest electronic doodads, fashions, music, &c., but for those who do enjoy these things ... by all means go for it!

I've never been a FOMO (fear of missing out) type person or a crowd follower.
Oh dang! ... I do need to remember to fix my old Marantz tuner so I can start playing my old LP records again! :gettowork:
 
I'm somewhat with Lightning. I was in IT. I learned Windows and PC well before anyone had them in their home. I use the PC every day ('old fashioned' tower), but have a tablet for travel. But, we always say we're the last people in America who have no smart phone. We also have a smart TV, but use it only as a dumb TV. No wi-fi in the house. I still take pictures on a digital 35m, no phone with a camera.
Also order a lot of stuff online and really like looking at Youtube for both entertainment and education (have saved a whole lot of money watching 'how to fix something' video's and doing the work myself).
But other than being on a few websites, NO social media.
I do have a large, 5-speaker surround sound for stereo and TV. Have always had audiophile equipment, my one splurge. Still play vinyl on a tangential turntable.
 
I’m going through a similar thing as Sunny.
My parents took pictures but most of them in slide form.
I’d like to get them put in another format so that they can be saved and shared but it’s a huge expensive procedure that will take a bit of time and effort but historical family photos are worth it.

I'm curious how you order online, look at youtube, surf websites etc., without wifi in your home.
 
I stay up to date with most tech stuff, as it evolves. I can't stand most social media sites, this one excepted, so I don't bother learning about them. Pinterest and Instagram are foreign, to me, even after I tried to get interested in them, for a few seconds. Twitter is a hit, apparently, with certain public figures whom I loathe, so I figure that means I should stay far away from it.
 
Pretty modern but for any installs or updates, well, that's why I still speak to my children, lol.
 
When I bought my computer couple yrs ago,had no clue in the beginning how to 'surf the web',I learned as I went along
I have a Bose Radio/CD player,my music is all on CD's
I'm not on Facebook,Twitter,Instagram,Pinterest,ditto with streaming services e.g Hulu,Netflix,doesn't interest me
I don't have a big TV,couple months ago became digital,picture is certainly better
I have a flip cellphone which suits me just fine
 
As an FYI, CDs are an outdata technology. Best Buy stopped selling them in the stores last summer. They were introduced in the 80s, and if that's your claim to being modern, you're a little late.

OTOH, vinyl is making a comeback. Can 8 tracks be far behind? Go figure.
