Leadership

The organisation has a formal structure, overseen by a Politburo of 15 members responsible for setting policy and led by political chief Ismail Haniyeh.

A council responsible for electing the Politburo has four divisions, tackling West Bank affairs, Gazan affairs, imprisoned members' affairs and diaspora affairs.

Yahya Sinwar oversees Hamas in the Gaza Strip and is considered the second most powerful figure within the group.

Responsibilities here split again into a social welfare system, with Hamas collecting tax and using funding to help the poor, build schools and run medical centres.

'Hamas has been very good at compartmentalising their activities - where they have a soup kitchen, for example, they simply give soup, nothing more,' Mouin Rabbani of the International Crisis Group told the LA Times in 2006.

'But it all fits into a broader pattern of popular mobilization and becomes another way of seeking support for the organization.'

The group also has a military branch, the IQB, which is commanded by Marwan Issa and Mohammed Deif.

Writing in 1997, Professor Ilana Kass described the relationship between Hamas and its military brigades as being similar to the relationship between Sinn Fein and the military arm of the IRA.

A senior Hamas leader told Kass that the IQB 'is a separate armed military wing, which has its own leaders who do not take their orders from [Hamas] and do not tell us of their plans in advance'.

In 2015, Al-Monitor warned that the military branch of Hamas was 'gradually taking even stronger control of the movement's institutions' and dictating the movement's policies.

exactly and I want to know why...
So does Israel, I guess.

Could be Hamas has new leadership or a lot more members or weapons or motivation, or all of those.

Could be more support from the Kremlin. Like, maybe Putin wants a significant distraction from their unprovoked attack against Ukraine. He's had a few recent talks with Palestinian-friendly Iranian leaders, hoping for more weapons and money from them. Could be they made a deal.

Saudi Arabia and Israel are having talks about working with each other. Iran does not like that.
The attack has been in the works for a long time but with that news it was stepped up.
I'm hearing this on different sites. Iran is funding, arming, and training Hamas
It's been rumored for years that the Iranian cia or intelligence services have been funding Hamas or Hezbollah for decades. Hezbollah praised Hamas for the attacks.

Iran-Hezbollah Intelligence Center May Help Hamas Target Israel

A 2022 report speculated that Iranian intelligence services could help Hamas coordinate an attack against Israel. Much like NATO or the US is helping Ukraine. Hamas took out at least one Israeli tank today reportedly by a drone. That would take aireal reconnaissance.

The timing of the attacks could also have been stepped up while the US congress is in disarray.
More than that they see all aid and arms given to Ukraine is straining the US military stock piles. Same for other NATO members that might support Israel. They know there might not be aid to be given. Once military stock piles go back up they know the US and others will be more free with their support.

The only thing I know is that people in Israel and Palestine can’t sit down on a Saturday evening and put their feet up without being in fear. Just said this to my husband. It’s heartbreaking. Too many evil manipulators. No average person wants to live in fear.

Further back I posted a picture of a naked girl being hauled away ... sadly she's been killed....in the last few hours

A woman whose lifeless and semi-naked body was paraded in the back of a Hamas pick-up truck as militants sat on top of her and jeered following their violent incursion was last night identified as a German tattoo artist.

Shani Louk, 30, was at a music festival for peace when she was seized by terrorists as they attacked Israel in a surprise assault which has left at least 480 people dead and 3,200 injured.

Her body was filmed splayed in the back of a truck, with one leg at an unnatural angle, terrorists sitting around it and supporters of the group cheering, running alongside and spitting on her.

Hamas had claimed the body was a female Israeli soldier - but it was last night confirmed to be Shani by her cousin Tomasina Weintraub-Louk, who told MailOnline that the family recognized her distinctive leg tattoos and dreadlocked hair.

She said: 'We have heard nothing. We are hoping for positive news. It is definitely Shani. She was at a music festival for peace. This is a nightmare for our family.'

The tragedy comes as Palestinian militants launched its worst onslaught for 50 years on Saturday by unprecedented land, sea and air attacks - even using hang gliders to avoid detection.

In a coordinated, multi-pronged assault, Palestinian terrorists crossed into Israel from the Gaza Strip, seizing settlements and capturing and murdering civilians celebrating a Jewish holiday.

Dozens of people are feared to have been snatched off the street and returned to Gaza, or simply killed on the spot.

For those who might believe that this attack on Israel to be an uncharacteristic act of Islam, here is a link to a web site that lists terrorist attacks committed in the name of Islam around the world over the past thirty days. The attack on Israel is not included, probably because it is an act of war, but those who are interested may find this very interesting...

All those attacks are heartbreaking as is this war.

In addition PBS News Hour published an article saying that this invasion revived memories of the 1973 war practically 50 years to the day.

If you recall Abraham had two sons one firstly by his wife's maid servant Hagar who was identified as Egyptian? This apparently was against Gods design? - Abrahams wife later conceived and had a child. His wife became jealous and demanded that Abraham send her maidservant into the desert with her new born child. Many will know the story but it is there to read.

It was also stated that Abrahams first born was Isaac and he would become the leader of a great nation - but Gods plan was that Abraham and his wife conceive a son who would become the leader of a Jewish nation. And so brothers and probably cousins have been fighting each other ever since. You could/should blame Abraham and his wife for all of this carnage?
