I believe the idea that children are not minature adults is a recent concept. Around 1900, kids from age 6 on were expected to work. If they attended school, it was only if their work schedule permitted. Prolonged "warm & fuzzy" childhoods, is a relatively new concept. Maybe Charles' upbringing was an upper crust carry over from those earlier times, and child raring theories? Like packing a kid off to boarding school.
Each to his/her own.

"King Charles III embarks Tuesday on a four-day trip to Kenya, his first visit as monarch to a Commonwealth nation, where any comments he makes on Britain's colonial past will be closely scrutinised."

"Charles is expected to tackle "the more painful aspects" of the UK's historic relationship with Kenya -- namely the period of British rule, which ended in 1963, Buckingham Palace has said."

"This will include the "Emergency" of 1952-1960, when colonial authorities imposed a state of emergency in response to the Mau Mau guerrilla campaign against European settlers."

"His Majesty will take time during the visit to deepen his understanding of the wrongs suffered in this period by the people of Kenya," the palace said this month, announcing the trip."

"King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited a war memorial during their trip to Kenya on Wednesday morning (1 November).
The royal couple took part in an act of remembrance alongside British and Kenyan troops during a visit to a Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery in Nairobi."

"Charles also presented medals to a Kenyan believed to be one of the world’s oldest surviving Second World War veterans after he lost his military honours.
The King handed the five medals to former corporal Samweli Mburia, during a poignant ceremony where other old soldiers who fought for Britain against Hitler’s regime also received replacements of their military honours. It is claimed Mr Mburia is 117 years old."

"Ronnie Wood may have secured a new Rolling Stones fan after he encouraged the Prince of Wales to see the band’s tour as they celebrated conservationists in London. "

"Prince William and the Stones’ guitarist spoke on Monday at the 11th annual Tusk Conservation Awards, which recognises leading wildlife pioneers."

"The band have recently released their new album, Hackney Diamonds, and it appears the Prince took the opportunity to discuss the new music with Wood."

"The musician, 76, said of their discussion: “We were talking about the tour and I said ‘come on, you’ve got to come out on tour’ and we were talking about the new album and everything."

“William said (he would) if we could get Taylor Swift there.”

"Wood said he told the Prince that Swift had previously sung with Sir Mick Jagger, and that William replied: “I’m there then.”

"He also joked about the age of the Rolling Stones band members, saying: “We had to talk about conservation – with an old band like ours.”

Fifty new orchards in Oxfordshire to honour King Charles III 🍏 🍎

55d19a82801f53d71cbfb1186acb377f

West Oxfordshire District Council has secured £50,000 for groups and organisations that want to establish community orchards in their neighbourhoods.

The funding has been provided by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' (Defra) Coronation Living Heritage Fund.

Applicants must have space to plant at least five fruit trees.

The council said the orchards needed to be on publicly accessible land to allow as many people as possible to benefit from them - a key action within the authority's draft Biodiversity Action Plan.

The orchards would leave a "visible and lasting legacy" to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

A minimum of five trees are needed to qualify as an orchard but there is no upper limit to apply for.The council will host a webinar in partnership with the International Tree Foundation to offer guidance on planting and care.

Councillor Andrew Prosser, member for climate change, said there was a lot of interest in the benefits that orchards could offer for biodiversity.

"The trees planted in the Coronation orchards will play an important role not only by increasing the number of trees in the district, but as they age these trees will develop hollow trunks and rot holes that will offer nesting sites for bats and birds and support an abundance of insect life throughout their life cycle," he said. The closing date for first-round applications is 19 January and those successful will be notified by 31 January.

Looking back to 2017.....when Prince George was 4 years old......

Prince William Hand Delivers George's Christmas Wish List to Santa
prince-george-prince-william-christmas-1512051030.jpg

"Prince George, 4, has an entire metropolis to his name and probably a gazillion dollars to his inheritance, but the tiny royal has discovered what we all know: the stuff we want most is the stuff we can't have."

"This Christmas, George—not eligible to drive, officer just of our hearts—has requested a police car. We know this because Prince William hand-delivered his list to Santa Claus on a trip to Helskini, Finland, this week. Written with characteristic British restraint, the letter opens, "Dear Father Christmas, this year I have been naughty/nice." (George circled "nice.") And though the form makes space for five requests, George filled in just one. Modest! He put it in the middle of the sheet, leaving numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 blank. Fascinating!"

King Charles and the royal family join traditional Christmas celebration
AA1m0TnO.img

In remarks filmed at Buckingham Palace earlier this month and broadcast Monday across the U.K. and Commonwealth nations, he spoke of remembering "those who are no longer with us" and praised "those whose work of caring for others continues, even on this special day."

"Over this past year my heart has been warmed by countless examples of the imaginative ways in which people are caring for one another — going the extra mile to help those around them simply because they know it is the right thing to do," he said.

He did not mention other members of the royal family by name, but made one point on behalf of himself and his wife, Queen Camilla, saying they were delighted that members of a "selfless army" of community volunteers were able to join them at Westminster Abbey for the coronation.

Service, he said, "lies at the heart of the Christmas story," and is a value "all the more important at a time of real hardship for many, when we need to build on existing ways to support others less fortunate than ourselves."

In addition to serving one other, Charles, a longtime environmentalist, said humanity is called upon to care for all of Creation.

"We care for the Earth for the sake of our children's children," he said. "During my lifetime I have been so pleased to see a growing awareness of how we must protect the Earth and our natural world as the one home which we all share."

King Charles to undergo prostate treatment as Princess of Wales recovers after abdominal surgery

01/17/24
"The British monarchy has been hit by a double health scare with the Princess of Wales in hospital for two weeks after abdominal surgery and King Charles set to undergo treatment for an enlarged prostate."

"Buckingham Palace announced the King will go to hospital next week for the “corrective procedure”, adding that the 75-year-old’s condition was benign but that all upcoming public engagements would be postponed."

"Less than two hours earlier, Kensington Palace revealed that Kate Middleton was in hospital recovering from planned abdominal surgery. The future Queen is expected to remain in hospital in central London for 10 to 14 days before recovering in Windsor."

"Kate, who was last seen in public 23 days ago after a Christmas Day church service at Sandringham, is expected to return to public duties after Easter."
