That's a good point, Olivia. The death penalty really does depend on each individual state, doesn't it? So, if 49 of our states abolished the death penalty, and only one held on to it, would the U.S. still be listed as a
"death penalty" state?
Is the death penalty ever imposed by a federal court? All I can think of in this regard is the Nuremberg Trials, in which the Nazi war criminals were convicted and executed by the Army. So maybe military executions are the
only examples of a federal death penalty being carried out by the U.S.?
