Name a chore...

One of the chores was taking care of the trash compactor in the kitchen. I was in charge of tying up the bundle and replacing the cardboard liner. Those sure went out of fashion fast.

When I was a kid our trash compactor was a burn barrel out behind the house.

It was a real right of passage moment when you were responsible enough to go out and burn the trash on your own.

Mopping if you can believe this. I once worked with a young man who had never learned to mop. I could not believe it. How will these children ever learn to care for themselves or their homes?

emptying and refilling ice cube trays.

at beginning of each year, i would take in a few dollar store ice cube trays and some kind of container to dump them into for freezer in faculty lunch room. within a week, i came in to empty ice trays and empty container! GRRR! i wrote a rather nasty (no cussin') note about refilling and put it in the freezer. a co-worker said... but what if it was the principal or superintendent left trays empty? my reply... then i would know exactly who to speak to.

dipping out a septic tank and grease trap-a grease trap is for kitchen, a lot of grease accumulates stopping
up the grease trap

I agree. I one had a 23 year old work for me who informed me proudly that she'd never folded a sheet. When I asked her how she made her bed, she looked at me aghast and said she'd never 'made' a bed, she got out of it, and back in it, in the same state..

Another one I knew in her 20's..couldn't do simple mental arithmetic.. I mean 2 +5 + 8...type of maths.. . I thought she was playing around , but no..she'd always been taught at school to use a calculator

Hmmmm....I'm not surprised the girl struggled, Holly, bloody 'ell, 2 + 5 + 8, you'd 'ave to be a scientist to know that? 😊

Yes, ironing. I hated doing it but was always pleased with the outcome. Also scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees. When I reached a certain age I told my mom either she settles for mopping or to do it herself. Got the mops.

I still wash the kitchen and bathrooms floors on my hands and knees... :D

When I was a kid we used to have to polish the linoleum floors with lavender polish, then my mother would tie rags to our feet so we could skate around and buff it up to a shine
