One of the chores was taking care of the trash compactor in the kitchen. I was in charge of tying up the bundle and replacing the cardboard liner. Those sure went out of fashion fast.
That was Me.....My 1st Job....At the gas station, Having some one else pump your gas & raise the hood & check the oil & fluids
and would get yelled at if you spun that dial too fast.Did those also but don’t think I nipped my fingers.
Also had to change the channel for my dad.
I agree. I one had a 23 year old work for me who informed me proudly that she'd never folded a sheet. When I asked her how she made her bed, she looked at me aghast and said she'd never 'made' a bed, she got out of it, and back in it, in the same state..Mopping if you can believe this. I once worked with a young man who had never learned to mop. I could not believe it. How will these children ever learn to care for themselves or their homes?![]()
Hmmmm....I'm not surprised the girl struggled, Holly, bloody 'ell, 2 + 5 + 8, you'd 'ave to be a scientist to know that?I agree. Another one I knew in her 20's..couldn't do simple mental arithmetic.. I mean 2 +5 + 8...type of maths.. . I thought she was playing around , but no..she'd always been taught at school to use a calculator
I still wash the kitchen and bathrooms floors on my hands and knees...Yes, ironing. I hated doing it but was always pleased with the outcome. Also scrubbing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees. When I reached a certain age I told my mom either she settles for mopping or to do it herself. Got the mops.
and changing typewriter ribbons.. with the ink getting smudged all over your handsI was a spoiled child and didn't do chores. But...
Does anybody remember Wite-out? We used to use it to correct mistakes on typewritten documents. You would paint it over, then retype.
I remember it very well. It's known as Tippex here, and I'm sure I still have a bottle in a drawer somewhereI was a spoiled child and didn't do chores. But...

And if your mom was anything like mine, Sunny, she put you to work changing those very same diapers.Helping Mom fold your baby sibling's diapers when they came off the line.
