Our version of retirement: Living a childhood dream

These are the best for pasta sauce. Salad-type tomatoes are too watery. I grew them once in my life, from seed, then planted them in a corner of my neighbor's huge veg garden.
We are making a pasta sauce called chow chow. We have a bunch of red peppers which need using. We have so much produce we don’t know what to do with it all. Some of it we are just going to freeze.

Interesting. The only "chow chow" I've ever heard of is a southern American relish, but un-pickled, why not?

Now I'm off topic

That’s not the chow chow we are making. Ours is east coast and calls for green tomatoes. I was wrong. It’s not pasta sauce. My husband is making all of this stuff including pasta sauce. We will use the red tomatoes for pasta sauce. Two different things that I’m getting mixed up.

Sorry to go off topic Gary.

Well, I never had any childhood dreams, I just sort of went with the flow. As far as living the dream, I am close to it. After traveling the world for some 60 odd years to all 7 continents and all 24 time zones, I am settled down.
Right now I am sitting in my massage chair with my Kindle and my smartphone at my elbow. All I have to do is press a button and I get a delightful foot massage.
All the while looking out of the window at the Ventura pier and watching kite surfers in the distance.
Life is good!

Great view @bowmore

I always enjoyed the one from our bed at our cabin in the mountains

The views of creation are hard to beat

Fabulous views Gary. You would think that after living in one of the world's largest cities like London, the tranquillity of The New Forest is so much more preferable. Well strangely, I enjoyed living in London, but I also love living here, horses for courses as the saying goes.

This is a sunset over Normandy Lagoon. The New Forest ponies, in the second photo, you see everywhere.
This depiction is of a mare and her foal just after sunrise. How beautiful The New Forest is.

I'm gonna finish this set of pics with this last post
One more thought on these little guys

They are called Golden Mantled
They look like chipmunks, but are actually ground squirrels
and are quite protected

When they became a bit too familiar, I got a bit edgy, thinking I'd soon be scratched and need a rabies shot

But
Even though their ever so sharp claws were extended
These little guys were so gentle

They'd place their little 'hands' on my bare shins with the tenderest of caresses

Pretty remarkable

Well
It's late September

We're now letting things go to seed for next year's crops

Still
The tomatoes are ripening fast
The beans are coming on strong
The zukes and even the eggplant looks like we'll have a good crop
Even though the warm weather got a late start
Getting temps in the 80s F for a few more days, and 70s as far as the forcast shows

Been a good year

We have them. They really confused me. I thought , for sure, they were chipmunks.

Golden mantled ground squirrels and chipmunks (also a type of ground squirrel) are both in the same taxonomic family but different genera. They're close relatives. Some of the noticeable differences have to do with size and coloration. They do appear similar, don't they?

And darned cute!
