I know we all know Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Josh Groban, etc. I'm going to mix things up a bit and say that this video from 1991 always sends a chill up my spine. Lisa Fischer, very under-appreciated. Listen to the last notes.

Also, Anne Wilson from Heart singing Stairway to Heaven. Amazing.

I think in this instance it would be easy to state favourites who can hold a tune rather than people who can actually sing IYSWIM.... personally I love this singer for her voice rather than any particular song she sings...here she covers an old ABBA song

I played guitar in an all black band, playing mainly black clubs back in 1971. The singer could immatate Al Green really well so we did several of his songs. I love his voice.... Ottis Redding, Roy Orbison, Karen Carpenter, Barbara Streisand were favorites too.

I wouldn't exactly call myself a Fan although I find his songs pleasant enough , he was my mothers' Era... but regardless Tom Jones, has a wonderful voice

If I was going to give the Gold medal for the best Voice of my generation... ( and she's not even my favourite singer but credit where credit is due) ..it would have to be the one and only ....

Guessing the "your generation" means your young years....? Whitney Houston came on the scene in my college years though the greatest example of her incredible voice was the 90s cover of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You.

No particular order: Etta James, Roy Orbison, Freddie Mercury. Some singers like Aretha Franklin have great voices but (IMHO) they overplay their singing, adding too many embellishments. I feel that way about Barbra Streisand. I think Lady Gaga is very accomplished technically but most of her material is not for me.

Stevie Wonder, Raul Malo, the Eagles (the whole band!), Sandy Denny, early Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Otis Redding, the Temptations (the whole group), Marvin Gaye, Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops. I always loved Petula Clark and the woman who sang for the Seekers, can't remember her name. In addition to his other gifts, Paul McCartney is a great singer. Van Morrison! I know I'm leaving some of the greats out.

And, of course, Julie Andrews, Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney in earlier generations.

I left out Joni Mitchell, Christine McVie, Chrissie Hinds of the Pretenders, and I really like Michael Stipe of R.E.M. although I'm sure he's not considered technically polished as a singer.
