The Best Singing Voices in Your Generation

His voice is integral to their awesomeness. It's a perfect fit. Bob Dylan's voice is 'weird and nasal' too, but it's part and parcel of his greatness.

I agree with you. What I mean (I think) is that no one ever says, oh, Bob Dylan, what a great voice. They say, oh, Bob Dylan, he is really great. Same with Steely Dan.

I tend to like performers with quirky, idiosyncratic voices, like Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and Tom Waits (most of the time). The crooner style doesn't go well with rock music.

Another pair of screech queens........
Always a contrarian in this forum. Well, "screech queen" Lisa Fischer won a Grammy for that song and I don't even need to defend Anne Wilson. She is globally known as one of the greatest voices in Rock. To each his own.

Here you go. Mick Jagger thinks Lisa Fischer is great. Maybe you have Tinnitus. That makes the "screech" worse.

We have a "no politics" rule at SF. Another rule ought to be "Don't yuck on another's yums." That was a rule at my son's summer camp. Appreciation of an artist is highly subjective and there's no reason to put down someone else's taste. I'll check out Lisa Fischer when I get the chance.

Another vocalists that some may not of heard of from the late 60's and 70's is Sandy Denny. Her voice was amazing. She was involved with the Celtic/Folk Rock band Fairport Convention for a short time as well as the Strawbs and Fotheringay.

She was great. She died too young. Another, similar vocalist is Maddy Prior of Steeleye Span, very gifted.

Fairport are my favourite folk band of all time... for years we've gone to see them live for their 3 days concert at Cropredy Oxford using our Camper van,.. and Sandy Denny had the most unusual voice , we even named our boat the Matty Groves after that beautiful song..

Fairport is an amazing band and it was too that Sandy was not with them that long. Another member of the band who I thought had an amazing but unique voice was Dave Swarbrick. He of course was also probably the best fiddle player I have ever heard.
