Threads That POSSIBLY Shouldn't Be Done

I have the answer: limit the forum to Americans. While there are some very fine foreign posters, too many of them are here only to insult and attack America and Americans at every opportunity.

Not try'in to pick a fight witch'ya but....isn't that just another form of censoring ?

I mean, perhaps we can learn from our foreign contributors some true weaknesses we may have?

I can give as good as I take...so if someone just wants to rant against us ?....I'll be their huckleberry...

It sure is.

I don't consider freedom to be a weakness.

I have survived a toothache, but I would have preferred avoiding it.

Now that's a bit extreme, dontcha think? Plenty of room here for everyone, even people I may not agree with. I'm all in favor of diversity of thought. I'm tough enough to stand up to a few insults, and I think America is too.

Have to admit, right now, many of you have a great sense of humor, concerning this thread anyway.

IOW, laughing my butt off at some of the replies!

I never mentioned freedom...I only meant that though I do prefer our way of life...that does not mean we are perfect ? And /or above improvement.

Some might call that xenophobia? I suppose it would be really difficult to visit other countries because of all the foreigners there. :dots:

I agree that quite a few members - frequent posters - from other countries post insulting things about the USA/Americans - and they were doing that way before the election. It's strange, because I can't imagine parking in a website hosted and populated mostly by people from another country then insulting that country and it's citizens.

But "limiting membership to Americans"? How? Would you require birth certificates or citizenship documents? Come ON. That's silly. SF welcomes people from any country.

And we don't need people listing topics that shouldn't be discussed. I think the rules are clear. If someone isn't sure they can PM a mod.

If someone isn't enjoying SF, they should skip the drama and just move on. Otherwise, keep acting up and the mods will assist you in exiting.

I think all topics should be allowed. Even the divisive topics can be entertaining.

I treat forums as entertainment, much like my TV. If the 'show' isn't entertaining me anymore I find another. I don't get my knickers in a twist over the content.

Having said that, the people who provide the forums have the right to set the standards as they see fit. It's their baby after all.

I agree. I know it's easy to say what I think a forum should be all about, but would I start one on my own?--no, I wouldn't .

There's a wonderful old expression that fits here: "Vote with your feet." Don't like a particular topic, or the direction a thread has gone in? Just don't go there.

But why resort to censorship? Usually, the only reason for censorship is if the powers that be have something to hide. That clearly doesn't apply here, so what then?

Because the control freaks of the world do not think we should even be permitted to talk about things they do not like. And apparently we have a few in here?

Something I see somewhat frequently are people coming into a thread just to say they aren't interested.

Not interested in the Royal Wedding? Fine - don't come into the thread.
Not interested in basketball, football, baseball, hockey, etc. ? Fine - don't come into the thread to announce your lack of interest.
Never watched Seinfeld? Fine- stay out of the thread.

And just because the thread title asks a question doesn't mean you're obligated to click and comment that you don't know and couldn't care less. Move on.

Exactly what I need to do at times. I really believe I "mouth off" into a thread, before thinking. I guess if more people "thought" before they "acted", sometimes, things in our society and on the forum would be better. However, I still think this forum is terrific as well as the members, even though I sometimes disagree with some and visa/versa.
