Two Children Killed In School Shooting

Oh for Gods' sake... will it never end ?
Not while the second amendment remains in force. The total number of gunfire deaths in the US in 2024 was: 46,728.
Here in the UK there were 22 firearm deaths in the year ending March 2024, which is the most recent full year for which data is available.

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which protects the right to bear arms, states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

This amendment is part of the Bill of Rights, which was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Supreme Court has affirmed that the right to keep and bear arms belongs to individuals, primarily for the purpose of self-defence.

This breaks my heart, as does any incident in which a child dies. They were at a school Mass when this happened. It makes me think of my own kids, who went to Catholic school and attended weekly school Masses. My heart goes out to the parents.
I taught for 25 years in a catholic junior girls high school. We had masses said in the small school chapel from time to time. At other times we squeezed the whole school into the assembly hall for mass and once or twice a year we marched them down to one of the local churches for a very special service.

It would be like shooting fish in a barrel for anyone with a gun and a grudge, and murder on his mind.

Fortunately, guns where I live are not at all commonplace and the most deadly kind are simply unavailable.

Hear that folks...nothing is going to change.
That sounds like apathy to me.
Things do change when there is sufficient pressure placed on legislators for change to legislation.

Let the law makers hear the righteous anger of people across all states of the Union.
Get off your backsides and start harassing your elected representatives.

Amendments to the Constitution can be reversed. Prohibition is the perfect example of what can be achieved.

How many more children have to be traumatised, or murdered, at school or in churches, synagogues or mosques?

How sad that he had to kill two little children and wound seventeen others. Afterward he then killed himself. I heard the other victims are expected to live.

Exactly so. When the UK introduced anti-smoking laws, tobacco companies exerted pressure through legal challenges, political lobbying, and attempts to influence public opinion by funding biased research and disseminating misinformation. They also used "spin" tactics like intimidating policymakers with threats of closing operations and job losses, especially in low-income countries, and promoted alternative marketing strategies to bypass advertising restrictions.

The UK didn't give in, the smoking ban has yielded significant public health benefits, including reduced hospital admissions for heart attacks and improved respiratory health for children due to less second-hand smoke exposure, along with a general shift in societal attitudes toward smoking.

american political references mean nothing to me..sorry
The NRA is the national rifle association, they make donations to politicians, and expect said politicians to vote against any gun control laws. The situation is really awful, there are more guns than people in the US. When Clinton was president assault weapons were outlawed and mass shootings went way down. As soon as the Republicans let that law end the mass shootings went way up! You could google it.

Australian governments of different persuasions took on the tobacco industry and mandated cigarettes be sold in unattractive packaging with health warnings. Smoking was banned from work places transport and indoor spaces in restaurants. The result is less lung cancer. They will need to do something about vaping soon, as well as imported illegal chop chop tobacco and cigarettes. One stroke of the pen is insufficient. Follow up is always essential.

It was a similar struggle with regard to blue asbestos products.

In reality, regulating gun ownership was much easier because Australians were horrified by the last massacre to occur in Tasmania. Both sides of politics came together even though there was the predictable outcry from some voters.

Nothing will be resolved to the good when 💩💩💩💩 like this keeps happening:

”A three-judge panel has ruled that Tennessee’s laws against the “intent to go armed” and carrying weapons in state parks are unconstitutional.”

Have you ever thought of bullying?

It might be that Robin was bullied by other students because of her issues with gender identity.

Of course this is no excuse for such an awful crime.

yes she probably was. Most of these shooter seem to be loners who don't socially fit in and are bullied because of some difference

In US they can easily get hold of guns and take out their vengeance on innocent parties. 😟

I was watching CNN and MSNBC yesterday for several hours off and on about it. 2 more little children are dead. The gun crazies don't care at all.
Assault weapons are made to hunt one species only, humans. Anyone who is against banning assault weapons, is basically in favor of killing humans.

How many children and adults have been murdered over the past 15 or 20 years? If the ban against manufacturing assault weapons was still in place, they all could still be alive today.

I think they said his youtube account was 4 years old filled with the same stuff they found yesterday. No one reported that kind of content to youtube or authorities?

He/she was probably simmering since their teens. Also went to the same school as a youth. I'd be curious to see if they were medicated even with hormones. Medications don't manufacture thoughts but they make it easier to act on existing emotions and thoughts.

I can understand why people think that banning a certain type of weapon or all firearms etc, would reduce these incidents, I'm sure it would --initially.

What concerns me is that at some point one of these crazy people will find an alternate way of inflicting casualties and save their single shot flintlock for themselves. This this would lead to a media frenzy about the new methodology, and we'd just start all over again. People are inventive, if it works it will be copied. If it gets it's 15 minutes of fame, it definitely be copied. There is something so very fundamentally broken here. Just my opinion and my fear.

The ban on assault weapons and and large capacity magazines had very little teeth to it. The ban had a time limit and it was not renewed when the ban’s period was over. Dianne Feinstein reintroduced the bill in 2019 (?), but it went nowhere. Keep in mind that the Republicans didn’t always control Congress for the years the Democrats controlled the Congress, they too did not move on the bill.

It’s also best to not put all the blame on the NRA lobbyists. Other gun associations also have lobbyists shelling out money to members of congress to support their reelection bid. The NRA, NSSF and the GOA are the 3 largest supporters of gun laws. There are a few other smaller associations that also contribute to the cause of keeping additional gun laws off the books. Even though many publications state that there are over 20,000 gun laws, the closer number is 300 that deals directly with weapons and LCM’s. Other laws address how guns are able to move about, sales of guns, etc.

One evening around 7 pm, I was working on the Turnpike using radar. I stopped a Cadillac Escalade going 84 in a 70. As I approached the vehicle, I noticed other males in the second row of seats. I went back to my vehicle and requested backup, which arrived in minutes. Two other Troopers and myself were now on scene. I took the driver’s side, another Trooper took the passenger side and the third Trooper stayed back at his vehicle with his weapon in hand.

There were 4 males in the vehicle. I told the driver why he was stopped and asked for his license (South Carolina), registration and insurance information. He was very quiet. I ran his information and saw that he had priors from drugs and weapons. The other Trooper and I now drew our weapons. I saw the driver watching me in his mirror. I had all 4 males step out of the vehicle and with the other 2 Troopers watching the 4 males, I did a quick search. I found drugs, various weapons and 1 handgun with a 100 round magazine on it. All 4 were arrested and taken into custody. Their vehicle was towed to the barracks. As it turned out, it was a very good bust.

Sometimes, I just got that feeling in my gut that something was not kosher. When a cop gets that feeling, it’s a warning to back off and get some help and proceed slowly, which we did. We all wanted to go home in the morning, which we did.
