Up a pound...down a pound...indicates that your diet/exercise routine is not working,

200 lbs again this morning.

About 5 years ago I dropped 20 lbs on a 2,000 calorie a day diet. I got all the way down to 190. Then over the last 5 years it's crept up about 10 lbs. So far I'm only down 2 lbs after about 12 days. But I'm going to stick with it for now.

Calorie counts on nutrition labels are allowed a 20% margin of error by the FDA. So any calorie count is at best a guestimate. Then there's the mom and pop chinese take out place that I ate at today. They don't even provide a guestimate. I got Moo Goo Gai Pan with fried rice. So I went on the internet and found estimates for Moo Goo Gai Pan that were all over the map. So I picked one that said 168 calories per cup.

Then I measured the container it came in and it held about 2 cups of water. So I counted 336 calories for that. The fried rice came in a separate container that held about one cup. The internet estimates for a cup of Chinese Fried rice were pretty consisitent and I used 228 calories for that. So my total came to 564 which I then rounded to 565 knowing full well that this estimate could be way way off.

But as long as I stick to a 2,000 a day guestimate I'll be eating less than I was before so I figure that's good enough. Bottom line thios is nowhere near an exact science.

200 again this morning. It's now been exactly 2 weeks and I am down 2 lbs. It's getting redundant to post my weight every day so I'll just start doing it once a week. But I will still keep weighing every day. Next post will be Sunday March 2nd.

I've been fighting that battle as well. Seeing a couple pound gain on the scale makes me nuts, but I know my weight can fluctuate +2 -2 for reasons other than fat, mostly fluids I suspect.

Yesterday, I spent the day mostly eating. :/
I've been counting calories for months and I just wanted a break from counting and being hungry a good part of the day.
Surprisingly, it wasn't that great, eating all day. I find I'm thinking about food most of the time whether I'm eating or not. Meh.
Back to counting.

Same thing happened to me. I had been stuck at the same 200 lbs for about 2 weeks and I got frustrated and took a break yeasterday and consumed 2,650 calories. And today I'm up a lbs to 201.

It does get frustrating, starving most of the time and losing very small increments of weight at a time. I haven't been on my scale for about a week; I'm too scared.

I'm taking a medicine right now that causes increased appetite and weight gain so it's even more of an uphill battle. Thankfully, I had a phone meeting with my doc yesterday and was happy with the result that I will be tapering off this medicine over the next couple/few months.

Ah yes, if I get frustrated when trying to lose, thinking my scale is stuck, I can always make it go up with the greatest of ease. I also have the same problem with Chinese calorie counts that Trade does. I use My Fitness Pal to log my calories (every day for the last 166 days) and Chinese dishes will give you a wide selection of numbers to choose from.

Well today is the first of the month and the only time I usually weigh myself. Up seven pounds this month.

I knew it would be bad since I've binged all month, but March 5th is Ash Wednesday and historically I've been able to do a good Lenten season of austerity. The added religious element really helps me. It was last year's Ash Wednesday that started this whole diet business for me and the total loss for the past year is 32 pounds. Need to lose more.

I know it's been a lot of hard work on your part, but 32lbs is outstanding! Good for you! 🤗

On the rare occasions when I take a day off from careful meal planning, maybe every six to eight months, I don't eat more. Instead, I have something that is usually banned or very rarely allowed. It is a planned event. A soft drink, pizza, rice/pasta with some kind of cream sauce, an entire bag of vinegar and salt potato chips. I get enough for just one binge so that I feel stuffed and eat it all on that day so it isn't available the next day. For me, that is the key: never have this stuff in the house. Never.

Usually the scale doesn't move but if I do this for three days in a row, it will go up 2 pounds. If it does, that weight comes off in a few days of normal (healthy) eating.

April 1st weigh in. Up 9 pounds since I went off my diet 2 months ago. Various excuses, rotator cuff injury and prednisone being the best ones, tired of restrictions being the lamest.

Anyway. I'm going to try to do better this month, at least my son and I trashed our remaining cookies this morning and I've started logging my calories on My Fitness Pal again. My biggest motivation is knowing that when I'm eating better, so is the whole family.

I had a scare when I stepped on a scale for the first time in ages prior to going to an annual check in with my doctor a little more than a couple weeks back. First time I'd been over 200 in ages at about 205. Talked it over with my doctor and told her I'd start off by simply sticking to my guidelines for moderation as I find it loathsome to record every calorie. Today was the first time since then that I've weighed in. Ecstatic to find I was at 199, not far under 200 but it is start.

Mark, have you considered using smaller plates?

Now that the weather is improving, I’m able to get out and walk a couple miles every day.

The winter blubber is gradually melting away!

I’m still trying to find a healthy balance to maintain my weight without exercise and still have room for the foods that are important to me. 🍕🍦🍫🍔

The struggle is real! 😉🤭😂

I don't find portion size to be a challenge. For me it is about limiting snacking which I call recreational eating.
Find Scooby snacks as SO calls them that you can eat and slowly ween yourself off. We had pretzels, mini cucumbers, hard salami, cubed chicken, ... in the fridge and ready to eat.
