It's not that I couldn't afford to install AC... and I do have fans all over the house, Blessed... but our electricity prices have risen so high since Covid, that I can't afford to run it... Last year Running just one fan through the night every night for about 2 months added £500 to my already very expensive bill :( last night I slept with no covers on the bed ..only 78 in the house..hot, but not as hot yet as it could be.. and I woke up drowning in a swimming pool of a bed..dreadful nights' sleep..just can't afford to run the fans
I know, it is high here too!! I prefer to be warm when I am awake but I kick the AC on when I sleep. I have just seen little portable units on Amazon, I thought one of those might help and not be such a expense on your power bill. I am sorry that any of us has to deal with the heat and the high bill.

I found a dead pigeon in the garden. It was a large, heavy bird. No sign of injury - maybe just died of old age.

It's actually raining here, but I fear it's not enough to do any good. I've already set up the sprinkler and soaked one of the vegetable beds. Next thing will be to feed the tomato plants in the polytunnel and if there's not enough rain, set up the sprinkler to water the potatoes and brassicas.
No need for A/C in this part of the world - well, maybe one or two days a year. It can get hot occasionally, but mainly just warm - maybe 10 C. cooler than my old home in S.England. It was 65 F / 18 C overnight in my house.

well...it's sad thing, but if you don't have the money to pay a bill, then that's even sadder... so it is what it is... :(

Before I read others' guesses, I think it looks like roasted potatoes with the skin on.

I am off to the garden early to work in some fertilizer.....we are supposed to get rain, I hope so, over 3 weeks without a drop. Farmers are suffering. First they planted, crops hit by late frost, they replant and no rain.
we've not had rain for a while either.. they're forecasting a possible thunderstorm for later today... but almost definitely one tomorrow....i's hot and sunny.. but it feels oppressive today..

I've just been up to the barn to lay buckets down to catch the rain.. which they say will be around 33 mm... the barn doesn't always leak.. but sometimes if does from just one spot..especially if the rain is hard

Went to the Farmers Market this morning.
Hubby was happy to see fresh ,local strawberries for,$6.00 per quart box
He bought 3,, ate most of one while I chatted with an old school friend.

There was supposed to be an open air market elsewhere,, wasn't at last years location.

Guess I'll try tidying up the house.
how much weight is in a quart ?...

A pint is a pound all the world around....seems I heard
that as a kidling..morning all .....slept okay but awakened with
a crick in my neck durn it...eyes still gritty from all the smoke
stuff from last few days....62F now up into high 70's later, and
we had some rain last nite sometime....no plans for the day yet,
too early to figure out what I'll do today....take care all...;)

I'm not entirely convinced it is; obviously, it would depend on the density of the fluid for the same given volumn.

But the thing that jumps out at me straight away is that a US pint is different from a UK pint. A UK pint has around 20% more volume than a US pint. Similarly, a UK gallon is 20% greater than a US gallon.

Sunday morning: cold and drizzle at 64 F (next Sunday's forecast calls for 90+ F,) I let my pups out in the garden to do their business, and my wife bought 2 chicks to get our grandson excited (but she forgot to buy food for them.) I received a $25 gift card for Starbucks, got in the car for a 3 minute drive to buy the cheapest "Café Americano" (the only size listed is Grande for $3.95 that is actually only for the medium size; gone is the table with condiments ==> no longer choice of milk/cream, cinnamon, brown sugar, etc.) Without a gift card, I would no longer patronize Starbucks. Otherwise, I am just waiting for the eternal SoCal sunshine to return, so I can take my pups for our usual morning walk. PS, I also started boycotting "In-N-Out Burger" after I learnt that the owner is the youngest billionaire in America.

So far, I am enjoying this hot weather although, it's a bit cooler now and I think it's going to rain soon, according to my weather app there is "Lightning nearby".

Did an early morning spin bike run before the day warmed up.

Later we went for a walk, popped into a bookshop to buy a couple of paperbacks and then I saw the top, which I didn't even know I wanted, until I saw it ;) Anyway, we have a couple of things planned and my new top will go with the outfits I intend to wear so, great investment really :D

Well it's been 86 here today...it's 5.15pm and the sun has gone and the skies are clouding over.. and it's now 82 degrees but very high humidity.... ( 36 deg c in my car 100 deg F)...

At 1.30pm, I had all the windows open.. next door pool party was still going on from yesterday, so I. new I couldn't stay home, so I decided to take myself out to lunch.. at the pub carvery..all by myself..

The pub is in a town about 15 miles north.. so for the first time since O/H has been gone I took myself off to have meal alone... it did feel awkward I must say..but there was a man who was alone ..at the side of me, so I didn't feel entirely conspicuous..

I had a roast dinner.. there's no way I would have cooked this at home just for just me, plus it would cost a lot to buy and make.. so I had delicious.... really tender meat , Roast Gammon, Roast Beef, Roast Potatoes, Mashed potatoes, Giant Yorkshire Pudding, Shredded cabbage... chunky apple sauce... and Beef gravy

IMG-1662.jpg
the whole thing cost £16 including the coke..and with taxes included... ... and for that price I could return and fill my plate up again with any veggies I wanted...over and over again.. I didn't one plate is more than enough for me.. didn't even finish that

This is the Carvery for those who've never been... for a set price we can choose.. any one of four meats or a slice of all four if we wish... and then any amount of Vegetables.. and sides...( desserts are extra)

here's today's carvery...

The veggies and sides here..include...right to left... A cheese and leek gratin dish...Roast potatoes .. mac & Cheese... Carrot & Swede ( turnip) bake.... Mashed potatoes... Carrots... Stewed Onions... Cabbage, Broccoli... Green peas

You can have as much as you want.. and the price of the meal is Just £10... without a drink or Tax...

Hot here too and its hit and miss whether the storms will get us in my area , but I see they are moving up and not to far away , ..
We use to go to Carvery alot ,and was good value , 3 meats and if you wanted a slice of each , and then you helped yourself to as much Veg as you wanted , there was some greedy buggers who would pile there plates up,leaving little for those following on .

I'm home. Busy morning but everything got done. Yay.

It's a rainy day so no playing in the dirt today.

Off tomorrow. More rain. Bank, maybe Walmart, laundry, no playing in the dirt.

DD et al went out for dinner last night at my favorite Mexican restaurant and brought me something back. It might be green enchiladas. Gotta go look, heat it up and, once again, dine. Dine because I got class, right?

Running some laundry but will need to use the dryer since it's a little drizzly out. Not rainy, just drizzly enough that the humidity is too high for the laundry drying rack I bought this spring (at the recommendation of @MickaC ).

Other than running clothes in the dryer for about 5 minutes per load to blow out the washer's spin cycle wrinkles, I've not had to use the dryer over the past month. Good for my utility bills AND the environment! Win-win!

Have a few household chores like mopping and straightening on today's agenda, but nothing too strenuous. Also plan to take care of some invoicing rather than putting it off until tomorrow and will drop by Walmart to pick up a few things I ordered online yesterday.

Then when I came out..I wasn't there long.. about 30 minutes no more..I drove to the car wash, and had my car detailed... then to Costco.. picked up some Kitchen paper and Loo rolls... no-one in there obviously lots of people away at the beaches and parks... then on the drive home I passed the fairground and the local fair was on... so I stopped and had a little wander around, got myself a coke from the Big red bus Bar... took some photos, then made my way home just as the skies started to cloud over..
