In case anybody wants to know, it's so cold that I'm wearing fingerless gloves. In my sitting room.
Me too....

Storm has started here...Rain is steady and getting heavier...wind is getting up....

Not going anywhere today.. really needed to go and get some things done, but I'm not going out in the storm..I might get stranded in the floods somewhere
We had rain but not a storm and this afternoon it was dry so I was even able to put some washing outside to air. Tonight though, it has turned cold. There are warnings of a storm tomorrow. Hope you are ok and don't get floods.

We've not had the storm yet but the rain hasn't stopped since about 3pm... storm expected tomorrow with up to 100mph winds..

Sorry, I thought you meant you had the storm today. We had rain earlier in the day, okay in the afternoon and then this evening, we decided to go for a walk and pick up some extra things just in case we are stuck indoors tomorrow and it was quite chilly.

we were told we were to get the storm today and tomorrow. The rain started early in the morning and the winds got quite strong until about mid-day, then the winds died down, the rain stopped, and started again at 3pm. It's now 9.40pm its still raining and the forecast says we will get the storm from tomorrow morning...

Just dull and miserable here with light rain which is forecast to stop around 17:00. No forecast for severe weather.
Spent another fortune on shopping today. Some prices up and a few down. Some good deals on gin, port and sherry , so I'm getting the "wine cellar" stocked up.

Right - off to put the groceries away and prepare the Chilli con carne for dinner.

Sunny but cold here. I picked up groceries too along with some Cognac and Baileys for the holidays.

Decided that since DD isn't cooking today, I'd throw a single-serve frozen veggie lasagna in the oven. It's microwavable, but having the oven on warms up The Hovel a little more.

Got a text from Sir. According to TL, everything she took with her to Acapulco was lost in the hurricane, except for the clothes she was wearing. Maybe, maybe not. She's prone to embroidering the truth so it could be that she was looking for sympathy to erase the fact that she couldn't work yesterday (because she was too tired).

Yes, just looked out and it has been raining and the trees are swaying. I have, for the first time this year, just plugged in the eletric throw!

Did you get your barn roof sorted out? I remember you had a prolem with it last year and had to put some tarpaulin up.

Returned my library book and then looked for a new one in the large print area. There’s limited selection. Had little chores to do at various shops. That can get expensive. Went for an almond croissant ($3) and left after paying $65. The cashier asked if I was shopping for anyone over 60. The guy behind me & I almost split a gut. He stepped right up and declared himself as over 70. It must be hard asking people if they qualify for the discount.

No the Barn roof still leaks... I've just been up there mopping the floor...I have to keep the dehumidifier on

No-one ever asks me......I've learned to ask for a senior discount... Annoyingly tho' when I do ask, no-one ever says... ''who for''...?😣🥴

Oh my Gosh. Just spent easily almost 10 minutes in the phone trying to convince AARP that I no longer wish to renew my membership which expires in 2 years. I do not use their services, and no longer feel I benefit from membership. She tried convincing me. I then got all Super Senior on her...I just need to confirm that my membership will not continue....just say yes or no. She conceeded it will NOT renew. I then said, OK Bye.

Today... at 1:30pm, temp outside was 5*C (*41F).

I drove a friend 20 minutes up the highway so he could look at a 2nd-hand pickup truck that he thought he might buy... private sale. We looked it over, then he took it for a test drive & I rode along. Truck looked in very good shape with low mileage for its age, and proved-out well in the tests he put it through. I left him alone for 15 minutes with the owner, and they worked out a deal. Sale being made, naturally I drove home alone.

Now I'm sorting tools and tidying up my basement shop area. Afternoon temp is reaching toward 8*C (46*F). I should be able to roll up some hoses; the cold makes them too stiff overnight.

If you own a piece of land, then you never run out of work. So, today:

Top: walking along the fence once a month checking for damage, like fallen tree branches; on the other side of the fence it's still a jungle.

Middle row: repairing the fence where the creek runs out before the rain season starts (a flash flood can knock down the fence.) I pulled out a California Pepper Tree plant; behind is a fully grown Pepper Tree.

Bottom row: Palm Tree babies are growing like weeds; spraying nasty weeds with Roundup.

That's about all for today.

I've come across your references to the Barn, Holly. I take it that it'd on your property? We have a small one here, about 400 sq ft, plus a loft and shed addition on the back.
yes it's on my property just a small one, ( no idea of square footage) double barn door.... .. no loft in the barn....

I've also got 3 Brick sheds.. they all have lighting, and electricity.....

@Trila Go to the "Recipes" subheading on the Food & Drinks thread. I bumped up the recipe yesterday. I always make them ahead because they keep forfreakingever. They're served at the table just like you would any other bowl of cranberries. The only problem here is keeping DSIL out of them. If left unsupervised, he'd sit down with the bowl and a spoon...
He and I would probably be side by side! 😆
