Where do you get your hair cut, and how much does it cost?

Like some of you i bought myself some clippers during lockdown and hacked away at my hair after watching a few YouTube videos on the subject. Soon binned any pretence in trying to style it and went for a No 2 or 3 all over.

As far as i am aware there are no traditional barbers left in my town so usually go to a unisex salon, although it seems to be mostly frequented by men. Although two years off state pension age the owner gives OAP rates so it's £15 for me.

we are over run in our small town with Barbers.. Mainly Turkish....

Most of the time I cut my own, I used to be a hairdresser in one of my other lives, my hair is shoulder length and easy to keep trimmed although it is getting harder with my arthritic hands and shoulders. I've always found it hard to find a hairdresser that could cut and style my hair the way I wanted it, I'd go home and redo it...I really don't care for the straight modern styles, my hair is naturally wavy and that's the way I want it to look.

Possibly it could be there is a large Turkish community in the area. If i travel to Maidenhead there are certainly quite a few Turkish barbers in the precinct
No...actually no... not here in this little rural market town ... .. apparently they all live in North London... same with the Nail salon technicians...

I went to the same barber for a haircut for 17 years until he died. No appointments, it was first come, first served, and you might have to wait 45 minutes to get into his chair. One there, it might take another half hour+ to get your cut, as he insisted on talking, and stopped cutting while he talked! Many of his customers would talk about how they had killed their latest deer, complete with graphic gory details...yuck! Welcome to ‘Murica. They saw a haircut as bragging rights and a social occasion.

After my barber’s death I was forced to go to a hair cuttery type place as traditional barbers were nearly extinct. I grew to like it after adjusting to having a female cut my fur as they were fast, took appointments, didn’t demand conversation, and I was in and out in 15 minutes!
The cost has continued to go up, and presently stands at $16 for a “senior cut,” plus I tip the rest of the twenty…

There's a regular Barbers here in our town too.. aside from the more luxurious Barber salons of the Turks... he has more customers than all the rest put together... he's been here as long as I can remember, and I;ve been here 50 years this year...

No appointments just sit and wait.. cheaper than all the rest.. and is where my estranged husband always had his hair cut until he started doing his own

I have been cutting my own for a number of years now. It looks like I became better at it ....... not that it matters much anyway.

I use a Wahl clipper.

My wife's hair stylist is wonderful, and I have switched to her shop, from a young hipster guy, who had an attitude, charged more every time I went into his shop, and who insisted on me booking an appointment using his web site application. She cut my hair as I asked her to do, in 20 minutes, and charged me HALF of what the hipster guy did. She has a new customer in me . Bonus is that her shop is a 5 minute walk from our house. Jimb In Toronto.

My local barber shop just raised the price to $12.00 for seniors. Younger folks pay more. I am 90.

I got a haircut in Mexico once sitting under a tree in an RV park. The barber came around on a motor scooter. Did a good job.

During lockdown, I got used to doing my own hair but, have now gone back to my old hairdresser. It is expensive but, I tend to go once every three months so, when I break the cost down over the year, I think it's worth it. :)

When I was wearing my hair in a chin length bob with the back shorter I had to get it cut every 8 weeks. I walk miles every day and in summer it’s so hot so decided to grow it so I can put it in a ponytail. I didn’t cut it for a year.

. A month ago I had 2 inches cut off the bottom and some long layers. It costs 45 plus tip. I will probably only cut it once or twice a year now.

When hubby was alive, I cut his hair. I started doing that when he was injured in 2012 and he couldn't get to a barber shop. I go to a small local shop and it costs me $30, including tip. I really need to find another shop because, even though, I always take pictures with me or show her on my phone what I want (like my avatar...I've worn my hair like that for 40+ years), I always come out of there scalped! She cuts it so dang short that I look like a boy and it takes 6 months for it to grow out! Every time, I say I'm not going back, but I do because it's so cheap (because I'm so cheap!!...haha).

I’m glad I cut my hair when I did but one disadvantage is that I couldn’t bun it like I normally could. Now it’s thick and almost at brastrap length. That’s about 26 inches on me since I’m so long wasted. Now I can easily braid and put my hair in a bun. I thought I’d like my hair down but I don’t. It gets in the way far too much.

I go to the barbershop. I get all the local news and gossip there. The barber and I became friends years ago. We fish and golf together and I pay the going price of $15 for my haircut. When I was in uniform and would park my cruiser in front of the shop, the guys would come in and kid the barber by telling him he’s being arrested for stealing their money for what he was charging for a haircut.

I cut my own. I just cut the back off yesterday after work before taking a shower. I had meant to do so for weeks. I use dollar store scissors but considering getting hair cutting scissors.

Since the woman I went to moved away years ago, I couldn't find anyone I liked and I'm not fond of the walk in places and the hair cuts are often not what I wanted.

Because my hair has some natural curl, it hides mistakes.

I can't believe all the people, who cut their own hair. I'm not that well coordinated to look in a mirror and snip away. I'd look like some really cheap TV show zombie.
I have to do the back blind because I don't hold the mirror at the same time. I do then trim it up a bit holding my larger hand mirror.

Again, it's not great but I'm OK with it and if my hair was completely straight, I'd probably have more trouble with it.

My hair stylist lives about 2 miles from me and her shop is in her house.
I have a chin length bob and have it trimmed about every 8 weeks.
It costs $26.00 plus tip.
