I am sorry to the viewers on this senior site

There’s a perception that Canadians aren’t allowed to own guns. We can, there are just very strict laws about them. A firearms acquisition certificate must be acquire to purchase. You have to pass a course on use & safety of guns. Hand guns must be registered and kept in secure locked containers. You can transport a locked gun to a gun range. Rifles aren’t registered. There are restrictions on the type of guns you can own.

The bad guys have guns. We don’t have that many openly active bad guys, but we definitely have them.

Same here in the UK...we ( my husband and I ) own guns but we had to get a licence from the police, and when not in use ( ie transporting to the gun range etc) they must be kept locked in a gun-safe.

Uhhh.........
We're getting away from OP. Mark is saying something in his own way of speech and it does not sound good. Hold on @Mark. Let's talk about something or someone you enjoy. We will help you help yourself.

I'm a Canadian & we don't have that problem here. My brother died at the end of September. When the RCMP (police) came, the 1st thing they asked my still living brother is if there are any firearms around? My brother didn't know. Guess my dead brother had a firearm but, of course, it was registered & when they police came they wanted it. Yes, there are some illegal firearms around here but that has mostly to do with the illegal drug trade. In a small town I never heard of anyone getting shot.
You have my condolences on the loss of your brother Packerjohn. May he R.I.P.

I sincerely hope Mark is not alluding to harming himself or others. What say you @911?
win is right, I think. Mark made some comments that don’t quite equate to the proper handling or etiquette of guns. He may not own any guns or has never been faced with the possibility of having to use one. His inexperience is obvious.

I am purely “guessing” that he may have received some personal feedback alluding to his ineptness of using a gun, so he felt it necessary to apologize for his misstatements.

Speaking about the McCloskeys, Mark said,
if I was in their spot at the same time all of this was going on, I would have fired my gun a few times warning shots. I never saw any peaceful protesters in the crowd of looters ,

My first question is, what's so wonderful about warning shots, especially for something that is absolutely none of your business? If you were "in their spot," as you say, they would have been walking right by your house. They would have been posing no threat to you (or anybody else). The only threat would be coming from you.

What are you "warning" them about? Not to speak? They are not allowed to have a strongly felt opinion, here in the U.S., without fear of death?

As I believe 911 has pointed out, ordinary citizens are not authorized to go around firing warning shots at each other, no matter how much they disagree. That is not how this country works.

If that couple really felt threatened by the protesters, they should have called their community's security detail, or the police.

And "looters?" What looting took place there? Do you believe that every public protest automatically involves looting?

Everyone does not feel that need. It is simply a tradition and an entitlement that many are not willing to give up. The only state you NEED, really NEED a firearm is ALASKA. Cause there are things there that will kill you besides people.

We have never had a firearm. Never will. As a trained marine, even though old and fat, he knows how to use a knife. I, as a woman, can swing a mean cooking pan if necessary. I think Americans are an odd bunch of people who agree on one thing. If you mess with us, We will mess you up. It’s an engrained genetic trait.😂
My pan is bigger than yours, Aneeda! ROFLMAO! :)

As an outsider looking in, it really must be bad in the USofA, that people feel the need to always have a gun on them at all times.
A great many of us don't, Marg. I've always owned a rifle and inherited a couple of handguns but never once in my life have I carried any of them to defend myself. I'm not a hunter but have enjoyed going to the local firing range with my son and SIL a few times. Other than that, they're locked away in a safe place and IMHO that's where they belong.

Dave. You sound just like my husband, and I mean that in a good way. :)

if I were to make another comment about the situation, with the Missouri couple, it would be the same. if they had come out of their house with baseball bats ,sticks, clubs , bricks, the mob would have run over them, and swarmed their house. possibly harming or killing them, ( different story now ). since the show of guns, this changed the outcome. if you do not want to get hurt or killed , DO not put your self in harms way, go home . they( mob ) had no right to be doing these things, or protesting there.

Excellent advice for the McCloskey's.

Different story now, Mark? Different from what? Was this group of protestors implicated in harming or killing anyone? Were any of them armed? What were they there to do?

How can you come to the conclusion that they were about to inflict harm against the McCloskeys, wanted to "swarm their house" (huh?) or do anything other than chanting protests against police brutality? All they were doing was walking down the street, for God's sake, heading for someone else's house!

Why the fear of a group of people exercising their American right to protest violence? What was their crime, other than most of them being Black?
What if they had been an angry but unarmed White group, demonstrating about events that had heartbreakingly affected their community? Not preaching hate, just claiming that their lives matter? Would local bystanders be justified in greeting them with guns?

Think about it a while, Mark. Your attitude is coming through, loud and clear.

confused, his second post clarified, sort'a
