The reason for nose rings ?

I'm curious as to why people are accepting of "adopt another culture's face adornment" but everyone goes ballistic when someone had cornrows in their hair and it's not of their culture? :unsure: Is that not also "cultural appropriation"?

Personally, I don't care about piercings that people do except when it's excessive. I've seen people with piercings in their eyebrows, nose, lips, ears and tongues (I'm talking all of these on ONE person) and it just makes me queasy.

That's a difficult one. You see because cornrows started way back
3000 BC (prehistoric). It was then adopted by Africans, and then later
the Vikings adopted it. It would seem it belongs to everyone.

That surely cannot be for real!

I suppose the urge to do these things is a tribal thing of some kind. To be part of an imagined sub- group. I would be interested in any academic studies about the whole phenomena.
All I can say is that it is all a lot more prevalent now than ever.
 
I have a variety of small nose studs. I have worn them since I was in my twenties. If I need a change, I also have several small nose rings. I love them. Yes, I also wear them to work, a fitting accompaniment to the stacks of silver bangles on my wrists, and my frequent workwear choice of colourful embroidered Pakistani two piece suits. I believe many of my clients feel more at ease with a bohemian therapist.

What a lovely happy post, that cheered me up and made me smile. Also, a reminder of "The Bangles", they put out some good songs, like"Manic Monday" and this one...

I wondered about that. Seems sort of "gross" when you're having a cold or sinus infection. Probably best not get into too many details.😩

I’ve had cornrows put in my hair when I went to Jamaica and it seemed like most people liked it. It’s just a hairstyle after all.

Thank God for that!
There are just some things that need to be covered up! especially in grocery stores!

I find it, with kids these days, its more of following what the others are doing, not tied to religion or tribal following.
I think many times, its done to stand out, be unique, to identify with something to make themselves memorable to others. I think its a negative attribute to traditional men depending on what and where its located.
