Yes, Monty Python was always done in a humorous manner, always irreverent. That was always the best part about it. I guess, in the case of the video, they were making fun of the galaxy. And, I could by extension, see the need to take the discussion about "heaven" a little less seriously. It doesn't. This is theatre of the absurd. Tongue in cheek stuff. Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks love this stuff. Farcical to the extreme. Lateral thinking at it's finest. It is supposed to make one think.

I don't get it. How does a video short about the universe give a hypothetical answer as to what Heaven may be like?
Heaven is not a wispy, ethereal, gossamer, celestial, vaporous medium...
It is an Impregnable Fortress of Wrought Iron, Stone, and Heavy Timbers, with Massive Fortifications all around.

Yes, I agree. I would be the first to say that the nature of multiverse is far more than we are capable of understanding. It might give people an idea about how large and unknown the multiverse is, and how we can't know everything about it ...
Everyone knows that the earth will burn in billions of years. So we won't have to worry about floating as ashes for a long time. What we believe about other planets is completely open to conjecture because there are literally trillions of planets out there. We already know that earth and people would not exist if the universe was created even a fractional part differently.
None of this precludes the possibility of heaven. I try to imagine that I will go to sleep and never be conscious again. I guess that is possible . But, I cannot sustain that belief for a variety of reasons. If life has no meaning beyond itself why do we invent morals and ongoingly attempt to improve ourselves spiritually? It makes no sense. What I know for sure is that evolution causes things to attempt to survive. Ultimately, that means evolution must have a goal of immortality. Another question is: "why does the universe need evolution?" The universe gets along just fine with rocks, dust, planets and galaxies. The universe must have had the probability of evolution from the moment of the big bang. Without potential and probability evolution wouldn't exist. Why do we value love, altruism, honesty, kindness? These are spiritual concepts. Do these concepts have survival value? Without spirituality we should be OK with just killing one another. There is a lot of that going on. But without spirituality there would be no reason to stop it.
You are likely to think I am a little crazy. But, I try to see the spirit of an argument as well as its precision. While it is true the video wasn't very precise, I finally did see some merit in it. I think we may be a little too fond of saying "no" and shutting off an opportunity for understanding. I believe Heaven is in some way what we make it. I would also like to believe we could bring a little Heaven down here. It's inevitable. Whenever you are having a serious and scientific discussion someone always manages to post a video with a song or something. Give us your personal opinion.
Videos are a waste of time. You have to sit there and watch it and can't comment on what is said.
Bah humbug.
Excellent post, I concur! You are likely to think I am a little crazy. But, I try to see the spirit of an argument as well as its precision. I thought I did a spell check on that. Perhaps I just didn't like the word troll in the middle. On the other hand I have seen many spelling problems from people who provided excellent commentary over the years. Also, likely as many typos. So thanks for the complement and the spelling lesson. It's amazing that a writer with an impressive vocabulary and who is so verbose cannot spell the word "uncontrollable"!
I lean toward Hinduism in that I believe that while the body might change, the soul lives on. I also strongly believe in karma, another Hinduism concept.

Everyone, except those that apparently derive a perverse pleasure from pointing out the minute mistakes of others, makes a spelling or grammar mistake once in awhile UT, no one here cares and you're among friends.........just take it with a grain of salt and don't let it get under your skin.
I agree with IKE and Falcon, don't sweat it Unc.
Good manners are just as important as good spelling.
It's amazing that a writer with an impressive vocabulary and who is so verbose cannot spell the word "uncontrollable"!
A "serious and scientific" discussion?
Come on ... this is SeniorForums, not The New England Journal of Medicine.
Videos are a waste of time? Tell that to the owners of YouTube. And you don't HAVE to sit there and watch it; you can just ignore it.
Bah humbug indeed!![]()
