Does knowing an entertainer's sexual orientation affect how you view their performance?

For instance, when Rock Hudson's was revealed, did your enjoyment of his acting change?

My common sense tells me it should not have changed (after all, it is acting) but for me a little of the spark went out of the romantic situations although I am neither prejudiced against nor opposed to the LGBT community. Never have been.

I'm really looking forward to Jim Parson's new show, "Young Sheldon"

Yes, But not a whole lot. It's better not knowing if it can be helped.

I always think about it when I watch Huel Howser's shows......or Liberace or Elton John etc.

Maybe only if if I had a crush on the actor but otherwise no. I'm also looking forward to "Young Sheldon".

Well, first of all, we're talking the '80s when Rock Hudson "came out", things weren't in the open.

I never thought about whether someone was gay or not, but I was a bit shocked(quite frankly) over Rock's revelation.

In my age bracket, guys like Rock Hudson were role models.

Rock Hudson was always playing opposite some very attractive leading ladies, ladies that really made pubescent boys....very nervous. ;)

Gomer Pyle, shoot- I knew he was gay before I ever heard the word "gay". Liberace, no question at all, but he was just on another planet, with his sequined garb

and full sized concert grand piano. Same-o same-o with Elton John, he was(still is) such an enormously talented entertainer, he could just do what he wants.

Huell, I loved his shows, was sorry when he passed in 2012. Was he gay? I suspected he 'might be', the are murmurs on the web but nothing definitive.

Who cares, it doesn't matter to me.

Edit: Freddie Mercury! Lead singer of Queen! Freddie Mercury was really really gay, but nobody noticed because he was so phenomenal as a performer.

No. That never was a problem for me but I do have one actor I used to like that I cannot stand now. Tom Cruise but only because of his Scientology. When he went after Brooke Shields for her taking medication for postpartum depression and his talking down to anyone who depended on needs in his interview with Matt Lauer. I will not watch him in any movie now.

I have to say I agree with you 100%.

Not at all.

I was surprised to hear about Rock Hudson, but it didn't change my view of him personally or professionally. Entertainer's sexual preference is their business and I don't even think about it. I have no issue whatsoever with an individual's choice of what they do in their bedrooms. I like singers like Elton John and comedians like Ellen Degeneres. I had a best friend as a teen who was gay, a wonderful friend and kind person. I don't like Parson, one of the reasons I don't watch Big Bang....so I have no intention to see a young Sheldon, the old one was enough, I found him irritating long before anyone mentioned that he was gay.

No.

I guess I'm old fashioned enough to believe that a person's private life should be respected and remain private.

In days gone by the media knew the dirt on actors, politicians, etc... They tended to keep quiet and be satisfied with a few photos and a couple of interesting items to report. Today people seem to feel that they are entitled to know everything about everybody. Sometimes it seems to me that the goal of the media and in many cases the public is to destroy people and then wait for the long drawn out comeback/redemption, the whole process is kind of sick.

My best childhood friend was gay and still is. :)

I love Sheldon...yes, he's irritating but that's what appeals to me about him. He's not my favorite character on the show though. Amy Farrah Fowler is.

I tend to agree about Tom Cruise, but that wasn't his sexuality, it was his intolerance of the needs of others and his know it all attitude about matters he clearly did not understand.

I strongly agree.
