Now 4pm Friday so since Tuesday have managed a few days quietly at home recovering, so am now mentally primed and fresh for this coming weekend's huge street art/food/music festival event. Over 400 art booths with attendance greater than 150k. Weather forecast tomorrow by mid afternoon is sunny and ideal t-shirt 78F.

2024 Mountain View Art and Wine Festival
Music | MV Art and Wine

Saturday for the sake of not becoming too worn out tired, will attend later in the afternoon for just the last band I've seen before while Sunday will arrive before noon. All those are rock/pop cover bands I prefer for street events versus original material.

Last Friday as noted completed html manual coding and updating my website now with over 7500 files. So this week followed up manually backing up to an external USB HD and several USB thumb drives much of my laptop computer (~3.5 TBs) for this last year's considerable additions. Was complicated due to my old HP Vista desktop motherboard dying I had to use older backup's to resurrect data from. Today Amazon ordered a Western Digital 4TB MyBook external USB HD and 4 port powered USB 3.0 Hub to better reorganize that on one HD on my Dell Windows 10 laptop.

This afternoon reread with good comprehension pages 105 to 179 Ray Kurzweil's "How to Create Mind", an AI book I read last year and continue to highly recommend for general audiences that wish to understand the nature of AI everyone is increasingly dealing with but few have a clue of what, how, why.

Went to the supermarket this morning just to get almond milk and bread. Took out the recyclables after eating breakfast. I wound up washing clothes this afternoon, after going down to check if the card reload machine is working again. No one was down there and no machines were being used. It’s the first time in a couple of years that I’ve done laundry down there during daylight hours (rather than the middle of the night). My son said every time he’s gone down on a Friday afternoon, it’s been empty, so I may just start doing laundry late mornings or early afternoons on Fridays.

Got on the forum a couple of times today in between meals and laundry, taking advantage of Deja's nap times, since often if she's awake, she messes with me or the keyboard when I'm on the computer. I just finished drying the clothes because I waited a couple of hours after bringing them up to get started and kept falling asleep while they were drying. And here I am again. Everybody…...

It's morning again. Saturday morning. I need to check around The Hovel and make sure all my wits are gathered. Sometimes a few get dropped or mislaid, and heaven knows I need them all together in the same place.

Dunno what's on today's agenda. Gardening chores, of course. Tidying up The Hovel, of course.

Maybe DD can be coerced into sashaying through the garden centers. If not, I'll start another of the new books and pet Maggiecat.

Morning all !!! My pc sez it is saturday so guess I'll believe it....
Slept fitfully last nite, some news upset me late eve yesterday...
I'm feeling generally okay, just aches and pains you know...
Need more coffee tho, oh it is 53F here now, going into low
70's later today....c u later....;)

Oh my! You poor soul. 115! That’s outrageous! I’m so sorry.hopefully you’ll have a few showers a day and stay inside. Thinking of you Starsong!
Thanks, PP. "Only" 109 today. Humidity is only 13%, so while it's plenty hot, I'm not dripping wet even when I'm outside for a few minutes. Been there, done that humidity dance when I lived in the Northeast. No thanks.

We set the AC at 77°-78° and only cool the zones we're occupying, so we're neither uncomfortable nor wastefully cooling the entire house.

Yes, our power bills are high this time of year (average about $450/month in summer and less than $100 in winter) but I'm grateful DH & I can afford it. I occasionally see NextDoor reports of power bills of $1500/mo and more. When responders probe further, the posters acknowledge their AC is set to 68° or lower. I have no sympathy for thise foolish, foolish people.

Other than this heatwave, I run fans all night to bring in cool overnight air. The last few nights the overnight air has been in the 80s. We have three more days of heat, then the forecast shows high temps in the very comfortable, low humidity, mid 80s and 60° for overnight lows.

I scrubbed the shower yesterday and bleached its floor yesterday, as was my plan. Happy to say it looks a lot better. So glad I got that little drain cover. Made the job a lot easier. Only let the weak bleach-water solution soak for 15 minutes (thanks for the reminder, alexa), but it did the trick of brightening up the grout.

TGS comes today. Yay! Maybe for an overnight, we'll see what his parents' plans are. Now that he's started school/daycare/preschool - whatever you call it - we'll likely only have him on weekends.

Cleaned up the house before the cleaning lady comes, then went to the gym. Some backyard cleanup this afternoon, including an attempt to clean some outdoor furniture which has become all muddy and gross. Maybe some putting and short game practice depending upon the weather. And certainly my BS (beloved spouse) will have additional ideas. Also, US Open Women's Final is this afternoon at 4 pm.

Today I’m just inside doing laundry. We are supposed to be getting rain showers today - 100% certainty but we haven’t had a drop of rain all day. Changing bed sheets and freshening the bedrooms is what I’m focussed on today. I’m really missing the actual rain. It makes me feel less guilty about being inside all day. My husband took the dogs on his own this morning. I’m a lucky woman to have him. He goes out of of his way every day to make my life a bit easier.

Molasses raisin bread dough - looks like a big chocolate chip cookie … lol IMG_8201.jpegIMG_5834.jpeg

Just sat down after assembling my cream of asparagus soup while listening to Led Zeppelin.
Right now, Neil Young just came on. I can't take his whiny voice after LZ!

They promised rain the last few days, but no go. Very cloudy and cool today; maybe tonight.

My next door neighbors are moving to another city closer to their work. The truck was here this morning, but she'll be back for a few things. I hope I get someone as quiet as they are.

Soon, I'll be finishing my soup.

I have caramel swirl ice cream for later. :)

I picked basil leaves and made pesto this morning. The house smells good!
My daughter has officially closed on their house. Her husband leaves on a business trip to Finland tonight so I'll be back and forth the next two weeks to help. They sold their current little house and have to be out by the 23rd.
And, my oldest daughter and BF will stop by tomorrow on the way back from a weekend trip. I guess I'll make a blueberry cake.

Our stove/oven if fairly new @ 3 years old. Thursday my wife wanted to roast something but the oven wouldn't turn on. Her solution buy a new stove/oven. To match what we have.

My solution. Trouble shoot. The touch pad failed. No wonder when I took it apart the touch pad was made in 2013.

Thursday afternoon ordered new touch pad from Amazon. Late Friday pad was delivered. Put new touch pad in this morning, works like new.

New touch pad was $26.00 & change with the tax.

It wasn't necessary to coerce DD after all because she'd already planned to run some errands.

She took me to the garden centers where Clarence was jam-packed with marked down perfectly good perennials. Yay. They leapt into my cart so they could go to a good home.

Then we went to the other garden center because the first one didn't have bulb food or insecticidal soap. Got those and on the way out some snapdragons snuck into the cart because they'd heard life is cushy at The Hovel.

Time got away from me out there digging in the dirt, and I spent three hours (!!!) in the sun. Oops. Good thing it's only a mid-80s day today.

Everybody is planted now and resting comfortably, waiting for a nice cool night.

Here's what happened: DD went into the garden centers with me...she's supposed to be my minder. DGD didn't want to go in so waited in the car playing on her phone. She's supposed to be DD's minder...the Adult In Charge. My checking account is almost as bare as my pocketbook, and it's all DGD's fault.

Bored!

I had a short list of clothes that I wanted to purchase for the winter.

I decided to do a bit of shopping at home and found more than enough clothes to see me through. I managed to fill two kitchen trash bags with things for the Goodwill and another for the trash.

I’ve been working on a similar clean out of the kitchen.

When I signed my lease extension* the manager of the complex said they would be over to finish replacing my kitchen cabinets and appliances, a project that started in December of 2022!

I emptied the kitchen and have been using up the food in the refrigerator to get ready.

My plan is to only add back the few kitchen items that I actually use between now and the end of the year. I’ll ship the remaining odds and ends to the Goodwill.

* The lease extension included a 62% increase in the rent. It sounds like a lot, and it is, but I’ve been here fourteen years and they only increased the rent $15.00/month once in all of those years. I ran the rent amounts in an inflation calculator and feel that I’m still well ahead of the game. I think that the apartment manager was more shocked and upset about the increase than I was.

and the beat goes on …😉

Good for you clearing things, AB.
I did twice this past year. It feels good. I don't have lots of clothes anyway but I gave away/threw away some no longer used kitchen items and just... junk!

Your rent increase is a bummer, but I'm pleased to see you're still ahead of the game.

On my early walk this morning around 6:30, the rain had stopped as I walked to buy the local paper
I took a mid morning walk around the building, sun was out but a tad breezy
I had no other plans today, then my close friend, Marcia called around 11:30. She and her son Alexei were going to furniture store in Hamburg{ south of Buffalo},they were looking for a new sofa and love seat. This was the same place where I bought my new sofa in April, I was looking for an end table
It was a successful 'road trip' for all, I found the end table {on sale} had the same salesman, Randy who once again was helpful Marcia&Alexei had the other salesman, Jim who was helpful to them. My table is Amish made from a place in Ohio will get it within 6-8 wks probably in Nov. Marcia's furniture for their living room will arrive around the same time. We got back around 2

Today I spent another 2 hours talking to my sister on Whatsapp, and by phone...

She sent me some old pictures of us when we were teens ..my god how we forget what we looked like...

This is one of me when I was 15, taken in a photo booth.. during our teens we had no access to cameras so we'd take the equivalent of a selfie today... in a photo booth..

This one was when I was 15 years old..

My sister was the prettiest of us all..but again I'd forgotten just how pretty she had been.. until I saw those photos again... same with my brothers, and other sister.. ..it's sad when you look at those pictures and then look at us all as we aged... it is sad to think we just didn't realise how fast time goes.. and how much our looks would change over the years

I think my sister is trying to cram a lot of lost years into a very short time with me.. because altho' she's not had a time limit on her illness, she knows her time is limited.. and while she's still able to travel, her son will be taking her on an all inclusive 5 star holiday overseas.. this month

That's admirable. When we were faced with possible evacuation alert leading to evacuation order, due to nearby wildfires, we rented a storage unit. Over time, we made seven trips in either our pickup or our Toyota RAV to stash things in the unit.

That exercise had us looking through a lot of our house, plus workshop areas in outbuildings on our property. Absolutely, there are things we should sell at a yard sale, give to the thrift shops, or bag up for the transfer station (aka, 'the dump').

@hollydolly Did your adventure get rained out? I read online that there's some serious rain and flooding over there. Has it affected you?
No rain here but really was a dull cloudy day. Tomorrow it's set to rain off and on at the venue.. which is an hour and a half from here.. so I won't waste the fuel going...shame!

I just went through my clothes too. I would say the last of my work clothes are gone. I still have a lot considering I need very little variety of clothes anymore. Good quality comfort is my current style.
