We finally found Mom's recipe for Backwoods Burger Goulash, something none of us has been able to reproduce since she's been gone. Found it in a cookbook where a number of things were crossed out and several more hand-written in.

The things we never realized it needed are some dry mustard, a little white pepper, a small amount finely chopped pickled jalapenos among the diced skinned bell peppers, and several tablespoons of the hamburger grease! No paprika at all.

Might sound awful, but what a difference this makes. My sister had several of us over for the reveal. We recognized it immediately. Family mystery solved.

I took over the cleaning of the apt this weekend as my gal is in the Virgin Islands visiting her brother. She was doing the laundry and I have been feeling its not clean enough being done in cold water so I took it over. HOT water it is and is soo much cleaner.

I can do everything here but I hurt afterwards so much I cry. It also takes me longer. This weekend I found myself actually liking it. I found my otc pain meds and 2 helped a lot. The beat goes on.

Exhausted, I really shouldn't have read your post. We are preparing our house for sale, once done we have thirty years of life to sort out, it's a big house that we have. When we bought it we were never going to get old, now we need a bungalow, the stairs have become a challenge.
I've had this house for 45 years... and I'm having to try and clear it and get it ready for sale all on my own.. with 45 years worth of stuff in it belonging to 2 people.... the worst job of all is the loft which is mostly full of the soon2Bex's stuff.. which he didn't take when he left.. loads of tools, car parts etc.. I'm going to have to call in a loft clearance company...

Have a lovely time away, @OneEyedDiva !
Thank you so much CS❣️
Today was a good day albeit a tiring day. I woke up 11:00 p.m. last night and was busy until it was time To leave the house. I think I need to accept that that's just how it's going to be no matter how ready I think I am beforehand. 🙄 I Ubered to the pickup spot and had to wait standing on my feet for 40 minutes for the bus because I got there too early. It's a new pickup spot at a Masonic lodge in a neighboring town. They were having a Pontiac car show. People were pulling in with their vintage Pontiacs and it was interesting to see.

I'm so glad my son suggested that I come down before he left. I will do it this way from now on because it's so convenient and so much easier on me. As mentioned previously he brought down my suitcase, food and water. He picked me up at Caesars. So as not to make him wait, I did not play my bonus slot credit. I will do that tomorrow. I suddenly wanted Subway so he took me there then dropped me off and headed home. Didn't want to leave Deja alone for too long. 😅😺

After I ate my sandwich I realized I was not going to be hitting the boardwalk as I intended. That tiredness got the best of me and I got in the bed and took a long nap. This is the first time I've slept in a bed in a long time, but I was too tired to fix a pallet. The mattress is comfortable and I've always loved their pillows. There's 6 of them....enough to prop myself up, so I might sleep here each night. 😴

Did I sleep well last night? Ya, you betcha! All that physical activity took so much outta me that there was nothing I could do except sleep ;) Now that half the garage has been cleaned, I wanna get out there and get the other half done. Somehow, I don't think DD is gonna be up for that quite yet.

Garages are where you put stuff while you think about where to put it...out of sight is out of mind;) That's how they get full of stuff we don't even want. What I'd like to know is how the heck we were able to get around out there.

How much crap did we get rid of? We folded down the seats in DD's SUV and filled up the back with stuff for Goodwill. And there's so much stuff at the curb for trash pickup today that we taped an envelope to the top of one of the trash cans with a *large* tip for our picker-uppers. That's trash besides the two regular trash cans😲. Our picker-uppers have been the same three guys for the 15 years I've been here.

So. The garden really, really wants some major weeding again. Didn't I just do that? If prizes were awarded for weedy gardens, I'd get first place.

We have two leftover breakfast burritos. For dinner, leftover tortilla soup, a couple pieces of foccacia bread, and two pieces of cake.
Now, can I talk DH into taking a break from remodel to go enjoy another nice fall day? Maybe if, in our travels, we wind up at a hardware store. That might be the only way.
Either way, I don't have to cook and my house is clean, yard mowed. Bonus day!

@hearlady You are remodeling? We are also. Right now, we have changed from lazy summer mode, to work schedules. We are getting all our supplies/tools together to put new gutters around the house. Then we are replacing two outer door thresholds. We have been working on fixing an old window. Panes of glass caulking it and painting it. Remodeling is work, it also saves on labor costs, and brings exercise to these aging bodies. :)

@hawkdon Beware that "Amazon" email. It's a scam!!! I get them almost daily. Don't click on it!!!!

ETA: It's a scam if you haven't ordered/returned anything.

@CinnamonSugar Just saw a new report on where Milton is going to produce massive amounts of rain. South Georgia...a day or two ago it was just southeastern Georgia. This morning it's all of southern Georgia. Maybe make sure everything is charged, you have batteries, water and other necessities. Better safe than sorry.

Be careful if you didn;t return an item. Last week I got text addressing me by name ( first name ) supposely from Evri the courier company .. and saying to contact a number wth regard to the item that I didn't receive ... ...I never reported any item not delivered...and so I looked up the number, and apparently it's a scam going around and been reported by hundreds of people.

I always sign up to these shopping sites with a fake first and last name.. so whenever I get an email or text like this I know precisely where they got my details..

Years ago I modified my name when ordering things like magazines or making donations to charities.

How do you pay on a shopping site. You need a legitimate name on the card.

@Kaila, nice to see you when you're able to drop by. Glad you were able to check so many items off your list of things to do.
After last year's event, I came down with COVID-19 for the first time after being one of the few that had remained virus free so long. Did not know how I managed to contact the disease but I believe I have that figured out now. There is a main area with about a half dozen large water tanks each with 8 spigots using small round white buttons one pushes with a finger. Lots of people continually filling water bottles, using their cupped hands to drink, and splashing water on their face and elsewhere. So am speculating virus may be passed by touching the white buttons then touching one's mouth or nose.

Thus am a bit afraid I may have given myself the virus yesterday before I realized this danger. Today will always wash my hands after touching the buttons. Will also provide a message on the event webpage feedback page for organizers to provide signage warning people of that and touching other common touching items like port-a-potty handles.
Large crowded events, indoor or outdoor can be havens for Covid. Sorry to say, an astonishing number of people who know (or suspect) they're infected with it - or anything else - continue to freely intermingle with others.

I hope you dodged that bullet, David.

If you need new glass for a window where do you get it? It once was available at Home Depot and Ace Hardware but I don't think they cut it anymore.

yes but it doesn't have to be the card belonging to the person who is ordering..anyone can pay for the goods..

EG..I am registered as Jane smith... and I pay using Holly Dolly's card...

Putting in 20 tons of rip rap to deal with corrosion run off water that keeps gaining speed as it pulls itself down the steep hill.
Break up the water stream and it slows, can’t pull the stream faster as it goes down the drainage. Instead it will be absorbed into the soil. Sure it slowly goes down the slope over the next week or so but not as erosion.

Well, I was woken at 12:44 a.m. to the news that my 6:45 a.m. flight was canceled. I have a command invitation to the hurricane party instead.

Can't go back to sleep, so I remembered that I needed to take my fall wreath off the front door before it ended up in the middle of the Atlantic.

I take it down and go to the garage and try to find a place to put it because the garage is packed full of cars, motorcycle and everything that was outdoors yesterday.

Just as I raise the wreath to put it up on the cabinet, a lizard jumps out of the wreath and into the neck of my nightgown.

It's doing panicked laps around my body parts and I'm doing the famous (or infamous, depending on whether you're watching the dance and finding it amusing or if you're the one DOING the dance and finding it not.funny.at.all.now.get.this.thing.off.me!) Florida Lizard Dance.

Fortunately, lizard and I parted company, but I won't be going back to sleep anytime soon....

Mrs. L received a strange email yesterday. Apparently somebody was unable to deliver a parcel because they had the wrong address...
Contact - and they didn't exactly pick a genuine sounding address - something like whdil,mfdjsk,28/'kdj.@+htl054. Yea, sure.

Anyway, it's shopping day ☹️🙁🙁. Mrs. L hates shopping, but like me, insists on shopping in person for fresh food. I like looking for bargains or special offers, though really good deals are hard to come by these days.
