What are you doing today 2023

Good morning, kids. It's gonna be hotter than hot today so I have to get out to the garden as soon as it's daylight.

The plants that I bought on Monday want to be in the ground so that they have plenty of time to establish roots and will withstand the winter temps. Remember winter? That's when it's cold outside. Remember cold? It's sort of like sticking your head in your fridge or freezer.

By the time I'm done planting, it'll be too hot to weed or deadhead or do anything else except sit in the shade with ein Glas Tee. Iced.

Don't let me sit around on my dead center the rest of the day. There are things that need to be done in The Hovel so if I post and say I'm playing online solitaire or watching TV, ask if the housekeeping got done!

@hawkdon About those new glasses? If the scrip is off, they'll do more harm than good. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking they're fine if they aren't!

Y'all stay cool.

Gigi..it's overcast..71 degrees here..rained all night... thankfully no sign of the hot weather you predicted for here...
This morning the media reported that last July...( remember my distress at trying to sleep).. was the hottest July in England ever.. temps reached 104 deg in some paces

Got a delivery coming in about 1/2 an hour.. and then later my friend is coming over for a while...in between I'm. going to have a little switch around in the spare bedroom

Going to son/grandson for day but instead of feeling joyful...............

I need the Mental Health forum. Not today, no time. I need to discuss having old lady fears about going places. It's hard to leave my apartment. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but need to work on it as soon as I can.

Life is hard without cats but I'm not ready for more at this point. There's stuff I have to do first and I'm slow and still want only Buffy which of course is unrealistic.

My heart hurts.

Today I am playing catch up.........laundry and other household chores (I wonder if apartmenthold is a word since I don't live in a house anymore? Guess not, spell check red lined me.). Anyway I will probably walk this morning and might do a grocery delivery with Instacart. Then computer stuff.

It takes time to get over losing anyone, Including a much loved pet. Which you never get over it but you learn to live with it.

Go out with your family and just be yourself. You don't always have to be happy but maybe while out with them you will have a change in your mood. Sometimes I have to force myself to get outside of my apartment and then I am glad I did.

@Pepper I get it. There are times when I feel positively frozen when I really need to be out and around lights and people. As far as a kitty goes, why not go online and look at pix of kitties that need to be rescued? There are some that you can just tell by seeing a pic that a kitty really, really needs you. It's how DD found her new kitty. She was just browsing because kitty pix are so cute. Now she has a sweet little kitty named Nutmeg.

@katlupe Apartmenthold. Hovelhold. Yup. Those should be words. I need to do some hovelkeeping ;) 🧹

@hollydolly It's a good thing The Hovel is so tiny because I have a thing about rearranging furniture. Lucky for the furniture (and my back) there's nowhere to rearrange it to!

Pepper, sometimes when I post about the dances and other functions we go to, I get a guilt trip. That's because I know that I am both fortunate and blessed. I have my darling wife who loves socialising as much as I do, and the resources to be able to afford it. But telling the world, well it gives me hang ups. Serves me right for being so boastful.

You may remember, my wife's younger sister passed away about three months ago, her two cats would probably have gone the same way, they are 14 and 16 years old. Instead we adopted them. It has worked out very well, they have settled in and we have pets again. We didn't get a puppy or a kitten for the very reason that my sister-in-law's passing underlined, we don't want leave a pet homeless.

When you feel strong enough maybe you could give an older pet a home and some comfort in their autumnal years, you might just both benefit from it. Thinking of you and wishing you well. Listen, keep it to yourself, talking of being boastful, I'm being photographed this afternoon, my tailor wants to put me, wearing one of the blazers that he made me, on his website. If he likes the images and actually does put them on his website, I will give you a link to see them, only keep it under your hat, okay?

Good morning! Yesterday evening, we went to the lake!!! It was the first time this year that we've gone swimming, and it was really nice! The water temp was just right. We only stayed for about 30 minutes, but it was both relaxing and refreshing. Our temps are expected to be near 100°F/37.7°C every day for the next few weeks, so we will be going more often!

I've a busy day ahead, today.....

👀 After breakfast I'm going for a routine eye exam. I don't really want to go, but since my last one was about 3 years ago, I guess I need to do this.

When I'm done, we will stop for a quick cuppa, and continue on.

Image
Next, we head over to the Fitness Center! I am looking forward to that! I'm ready for a good workout!

🔨 Afterwards, we need to make a quick stop at the farm supply store for some drywall nails, before heading home.

emoticon
But wait! By that time, won't it will be getting too late for me to cook dinner? And since we have to go right past my favorite Mexican/American restaurant anyway.......we will go out for Dio's b'day dinner!
emoticon

All of that should take up most of my day! Busy, busy busy! I hope everyone is doing well, and has a good day!

Today, I am enjoying my second with a pain free hip. Yesterday, for the first time in 6 months, I walked over 2 miles sans walker or cane. Felt like a million bucks. I am able to negotiate stairs once again. I am free for a while anyhow. I love my doctor. This was just a shot to the hip, but he really feels that since my problems stem from a really messed up back, I will require an epidural in the long run. He's amazed that I can stand straight at all. Determination, I guess. My body's old, but my mind isn't, so I am resisting the message. ;)

@Trila The picture of you is positively stunning. Stunning, I tell you:ROFLMAO: And I agree that after your busy, busy day, you'll need to stop at your fave Mexican/American restaurant. I do hope that it's also🐐man's.

@horseless carriage I heard that your picture might be on your tailor's website. @Pepper didn't say a word. I heard it on the 🍇vine. And you're not one bit boastful. We (or at least I) love hearing about the adventures of you and your lovely and charming bride. So there.

All the plants were in the ground before 9am! Yay me. I planted the begonias and guara first and put the dwarf oleanders in last. Working in the garden is harder than churning out 🥐🥐 and stuff in the bakery.

Then I came in and shucked my clothes and took a shower. Yanno, just in case the oleanders deposited their poison on the clothes or me. One can't be too careful. The clothes are in the washer as we speak.

Gonna have something to eat, rest a minute and get started on the Hovelkeeping. Thanks @katlupe, for the perfectly good word.

Dang! It's already almost obscenely hot. I prefer fresh air over a/c but not in July.

Thanks GG! Actually, 🐐guys fave restaurant closes at 2 pm, so he will just have to suffer with a second choice! LOL (actually, he likes this restaurant, too....it's just not his first pick)

Ok...I'm off to explain to my Dr why it's been so long since I was there. Bye y'all!

@hawkdon About those new glasses? If the scrip is off, they'll do more harm than good. Don't let them gaslight you into thinking they're fine if they aren't!
Yes. They already tried adjusting how they sit on the face, and angle from the eyes, etc.
So it is either the script itself, which happens more often than they pretend it doesn't; (either wrong altogether, or made for a different distance than you need them to be)

OR, it's how they were ground.

Either way, yes, more harm than good! In multiple ways!

It is difficult and unpleasant and stressful,
But important;
to keep going back, and to insist they get to the bottom of how to make them right for your eyes and your vision, and your health and safety.

Yes, safety too, is at stake,
because a person can fall, due to having incorrect eyeglasses.:(

Just caring and concerned,
@hawkdon

Not trying to be a nuisance to you!:confused:

Don't worry; They'll quickly accept any excuse, as long as you bring your credit card, today! :geek:(y):love:

Had an in-person business meeting yesterday. Can't remember the last time that's happened - maybe 5-6 years. Felt both familiar and weird. I have a long list of new uniform styles to research - not urgent though.

I'll get to it later today and over the weekend. Baby comes for a couple of hours this morning during DDIL's doctor appointment, and then again tomorrow when she goes to work. Can't get much computer work done when he's here. o_O

It's hotter than blue blazes here and this weekend is going to be worse. Expected high is 102° with humidity at 19%. Ugh... summer has always been my least liked season.

Hated it more when I lived in the northeast US though - high humidity that brought oodles of mosquitoes, gnats and other annoying flying bugs. Just looked up today's weather where I lived back then: 95° with 83% humidity. Yow! Guess I'll stop complaining. For the moment, anyway.

Heading to the backyard pool for a swim before baby comes.

Well, this morning was a no brainer. £600 for a new cooker with more efficient energy-wise, OR a small appliance highly energy efficient AirFryer for our small portions @£30.

Luck would have it that the B&M store in next village had the 2 litre option. Finally found a collection of kitchen utensils to replace the warped, melted and stained plastic ones over 20 years old LOL!.

4 are a matching set, wood handles and black silicone. 1 is an extra slotted spoon, in grey silicone with metal handle. Plus the two good ones we had purchased at Wilko, the fish slice and soup ladle, my set is finally completed.

Granted thanks to Wilko no longer stocking the pattern of ladle and fish slice, I had to find another style. Thanks to B&M to come to the rescue, however, they didn't have ladles, bummer!

Nevermind, at least it's all new and will last, fingers-crossed, for another 20 years 😂😂😂

Got last week of month groceries. July done. We've got two great packs of rump steaks, so a month's worth of Sunday night dinners. Woop woop!

AirFryer will begin it's operation tomorrow night with Buttermilk Fried Chicken Legs and Chips. I'll update then. Now, relaxing, catching up on YouTube and having late lunch. Later!

Still having the same complaint I’ve had before…….the time and days are going far too fast.
In routine with my morning cleaning chores now.
At 7am…..breakfast for Micki, then out to do her jobs, and our first walk.
At 10:45…..out for her job, and our 2nd walk for the day…..then her lunch.
At 5pm…..supper for Micki, then her jobs, and our 3rd walk.
At 9pm…..out for bedtime jobs, a short walk…..then her bedtime snack.
I’m usually on my iPad then, catching up, doing a puzzle or games, then my bedtime at 11.
Buying groceries is still once a week, between Sobeys or Co-op…..Walmart is every two weeks if I need something.

A walk never goes by without speaking to someone.

Did I mention Micki and i LOVE our new place.
I’m so happy, I almost feel guilty…..almost 😉😊😀.
But…..I do miss my house and yard….there’s a sacrifice for everything in life.

Have been spending a fair bit of money…..which is almost coming to an end.
I’ll enlighten my shopping purchases on a another thread.

Thinking I’ll try and order 12 more hours in a day….if they’re not back ordered…..days just aren’t long enough.
Will I say that come winter…..will have to see.

Pepper, try and relax about going places, my afternoon is coming to you. First you need to click on this link to Compton Acres, then along the selections you will see The Italian Villa, click that and it will show you an exquisite wedding setting. Now you need to keep all that in mind.

Compton Acres has many functions, all of which you can see just by wandering around that website. One of their commercial operations is to let out business studios, these are taken up by artisans like photographers, hairdressers and make-up artistes. My tailor rents such a studio and that's where I have been all afternoon, in his rogues gallery, having my mug shot done. (photo.)

At one point I needed my reading glasses, leaving the studio I went back to my car to retrieve my specs. That brief errand took me past a wedding that was in the process of the post ceremony photos. Collecting my glasses and heading back, I had to walk past that photo shoot again. The backdrop of those wedding photos was a classic VW Microbus, the one with the 'V' shape front. One like this:
VW Microbus.jpeg
Walking past I heard a voice, might have been the bride, say: "I want him in my photo!" She couldn't possibly mean me, surely.
Green Blazer black trousers 002.JPG
The groom was beckoning me, smiling. I joked with him, and said that perhaps he might prefer my car in his photos. I must point out that I was in my modern car, but I did show him a photo on my phone of the MG when I agreed to doing a wedding for a good friend's daughter.
old photos 126.JPG
He went into raptures, "Is it here?" Here asked, "unfortunately no," I replied, adding a wedding greeting and that I really didn't want to gatecrash a wedding photo. But what an afternoon. And I still had to pose back at the studio for my own photos. All in all Pepper, it's been quite a day.

You have a B&M store in a Village ?... Good lord I've never heard of a B&M store in a village... 😲

Hm. B&M has garden centers. Guess where I'd be if I lived in the UK? LOL

So. After all my stuff was done, I was going to play online solitaire...and fell asleep instead.

About the oleander. This ain't my first rodeo regarding oleander because it's widely grown in yards and gardens in the Southwest USA, where we used to live. I know not to touch it unless wearing gloves and long sleeves, wash my hands and arms thoroughly after so much as brushing past it, yadda yadda.

I was careful planting the two shrubs, and wore gloves, long sleeves, washed up, etc. And what do I have? A rash on my arms. Arg! Believe me, I'll be giving those shrubs a wide berth evermore!

Now I'm gonna play solitaire.

Oh. Remember DGD's epic gall bladder infection/surgery week before last? Something haywire with the sutures, and her navel is infected. And she has excruciating back pain. DD is convinced that it has something to do with the steel rods in her spine from scoliosis surgery 10 years ago. Geez. Kid can't catch a break. They're at the ER right now.

@Georgiagranny ,, sorry to read about your granddaughter's problems.

Hope things get better for her.

Hubby had dental appointment yesterday,, was gone longer than usual.
First words out of him was, " It cost me over thousand dollars! "

He was supposed to get 2 crowns put back on.
Turns out he had an abbess , ended up having root channel done.

Thing is I think he's had problem with those teeth every since he got the crowns.
He would tell the dentist there's a pain in my upper part of his cheek.
Finally they x-rarefied it , saw the abbess.
