Why should God(s) help us if we don't help ourselves and others?

I'm a believer but my God is not a helicopter parent that hovers over me to protect me or indulge me.

My God gave me free will to make my own choices and live my life without his interference in a world that contains everything I need.

When I pray it is for strength, guidance, understanding, etc...
Stay at home. Pray at home. God(s) don't NEED an audience. Everyone - please stay safe!

"God helps those who help themselves" is probably the most often quoted phrase that is not found in the Bible. This saying is usually attributed to Ben Franklin, quoted in Poor Richard’s Almanac in 1757. In actuality, it originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government. "

God's help is available to all, who call on him. God's phone number is JER- 33:3 :

Since you have posted twice, I assume that you are expecting a response. So, here it is: My initial post was not meant to discourage the faithful from praying. It was a statement about public gatherings and those who deny both government orders and medical advice and expose others to risk. Stay safe.

Those of us who know and love God (there is only one) have no need to be anxious about our lives BUT we are charged with sincerely loving Him and one another. Testing Him by intentionally exposing one another to this virus shows neither. There are indeed times when Christian obedience requires risk and sacrifice. The situation described by the OP is not one of them.

No matter your beliefs or lack thereof, I'm sickened by religious leaders who continue to defy stay-at-home orders, encouraging people to gather under the premise/promise that they will have divine protection.
I sincerely hope that greed isn't the motivating factor, but it may be. The virus doesn't discriminate between religions, between believers and non-believers. It is universal. I want everyone to be safe.

Roman's 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Religious leaders that call for defiance of what is hoped will help stem the spread of the virus could believe that a supernatural being billions of years old will not let harm happen to their congregation.

Is this virus a test of faith? Is God working for the good of those that love him?

There is a brilliant riposte to be found in a mocked up painting, with a man asking God why he allowed pandemics, and other catastrophes to occur? God responds by saying to man "I was about to ask you the same question!" (Sorry I can't post it for you, but perhaps someone else will come across it?)..

I don't believe in God, but I do believe in science. Science shows that maintaining social distancing is our best option for now.

I find it interesting when people declare their lack of belief in God, and it brings to mind the views of a local vicar, or priest thirty odd years ago, who said half his congregation were only at church in order to be seen at church!

I agree science may provide an answer to this virus, and if the brilliant minds working on a vaccine gain any inspiration, or comfort from the fellowship they receive from their community, no one will mind will they.

Not as long as they convert to an on-line community for the duration of this crisis.

People can still talk on the telephone can't they, or put their thumbs up to signal approval to friends and neighbours isn't yet banned is it?

Then there is whatever social interaction still permitted at work, so by no means "on line community only" for such vital key workers as vaccine scientists.

The message is clear, even without the link.

Oh dear! I never get into discussion about politics, sex or religion because everybody thinks that they are right; so why argue?
