Do you talk to yourself?

Pets (at least mammals) usually have a working vocabulary of several dozen words; mine certainly know "out," "treats," "no," "food," and "good boy/girl," so when I verbally interact with them, it's not talking to myself. All or most of us also run an internal dialogue of sorts pretty constantly, which even if not spoken aloud is self-talk...

I talk to myself all the time. I used to write a lot but now I talk to my Dictaphone for at least an hour every day. The most enjoyment, however, comes from singing to myself.

"His eye is on the sparrow"...He hears even the tiniest prayerful petitions. Sometimes He answers "No" because only He knows what is best for us. Sometimes He answers "Wait" for His perfect timing. Just trust and listen.

I don't talk to myself, but heard my grandfather used to say there's nothing wrong with talking to yourself, it's only when you start answering that you need to worry

Some decades ago we had a real Chihuahua that when he was full grown weighed 4 pounds. A couple of years ago my wife said it would be nice to get another dog. My response was that would mean walking him when we were in our 90s. I did find her a stuffed chihuahua with a battery motor that when activated will jump around and bark. Real dogs don't know what to make of him. I do miss my wife, she passed at 87.

While I almost never talk 'out loud' to myself, even little things like thinking....'Today is trash day. Make sure to empty the upstairs bathroom trash...' is a form of talking to oneself, no?

Having such 'discussions' out loud in public might be a bit concerning, but otherwise I'd be inclined to not get overly concerned.

Sometimes, I just blurt things out when no ones around. Never know when or why. Usually when something is surprising. I am slightly maniac depressive but I don't think it is a split personality...yet.

Actually, that's not true. I also talk to myself when I want to hear (out loud) what my opinion or argument will sound like when presented to others. I live alone without any pets so who else would I talk to?

I always talked to my cats. I really miss not having a cat anymore for many reasons. The internal dialog just doesn't do it. Maybe the vibrations are important or a different part of the brain needs exercising. I stopped going to church during the pandemic. I miss singing along with others the most. So don't be alarmed if you hear me singing and talking to myself more than usual.

It's okay to talk to the low life, been doing it all my life. As long as you can resist the uncontrollable urge to wash your mouth out with soap, they won't lock me, I mean you, up.

In my opinion talking to oneself is much less strange than the high number of women who talk to their deceased husbands in the grave. Ladies, must you always have the last word?
