@Sassycakes About six years ago I was at the DMV waiting to get my driver's license renewed. I was the only woman in the room. All of the men were in various levels of casual clothing, some sloppy looking, some with ball caps, and most looked haggard, oldish, wrinkled clothes, dressed like teenagers, and just unappealing. But, hey, they weren't dressing for me or looking for judgement from strangers.
I had the sudden and unpleasant thought that is this what middle aged and older men look like? If I was looking for a relationship or more I was not impressed and thought, this is really slim pickings. Some women let their appearances go, not a top priority for many reasons, too. Don't get me wrong.
You said you were watching Old Tv Shows, and I think it depends which shows makes the difference. Way back in the black and white days, men were dressing better if that was the theme of the show.
Watch any Hallmark Movie these days and all the women have perfectly madeup faces, their curl/wave in their hair are always perfectly set, and they never do any thing that would make them sweat.
Until last year or so, no Hallmark movie ever had a hand hold or a kiss between the main characters until the closing scene. All of this and the ridiculous mood music which pops up relentlessly means Hollywood or Canada where most Hallmark movies are filmed, do not live in the real world.
I don't want to judge a book by its cover. Peer pressure to look a certain way and all the Selfies ever taken will not make a bit of difference in the end.
Except for gravity's effects, I think I have aged well on my face. Not being an addict and not overdoing sun exposure helps a lot. I would not get Botox even if offered on a platinum platter.
When I cut down on anything with sugar my face shows the good that I have done. I am thinking about trying a collagen supplement since it would also help with aches and pains. Most days, without trying, the pain burden just shows by looking at my face, no matter how much I try to grin and bear it.
I'd rather Hollywood produced movies and tv shows which included all types of faces- young/old, homely/attractive, and anything else you can think of.
My husband is older than me by years. He looks about 15-20 years younger than men his real age. That youthful appearance is down to me, not letting him give up and staying grumpy. It's actually shocking to see men we know and others on tv who are his exact age and they look sooooo very much older. Now if he would only eat healthier.
