Do you believe in heaven?

Heaven would be a 24-hour-a-day pizza joint with the best pepperoni pizza, served by cute gals in schoolgirl outfits.

Heaven to me is being with all my loved ones and pets that have gone over the rainbow bridge. Complete peace of mind and no stress. I just can't figure out how we will all be together when some of my relatives don't know the newer family members. I guess there will be a lot of introducing going on.

I believe in Heaven. I also believe that Hell is here on earth.Where else could you experience the pain of losing loved ones other than Hell. To me Heaven would be with your loved ones never to part again.

"Do you believe in Heaven?" Warrigal, is this what you meant? This format is confusing to me and sometimes the instructions are difficult to follow. I admit I am totally naive.

The premise is that there is something out there after you die.

Well I'm not really a true atheist because I waver back and forth but logic only tells me that when you die, that's it.
I agree that it would be difficult to imagine heaven without a belief. I believe for multiple reasons. Over the course of my life I have searched for evidence. The most Important evidence came from an experience that is subjective and I will relate it only if you ask because it is a long story covering years where I believe God showed me things about myself which changed my life. Some of the simplest proofs come from science. In math/physics there is the idea of the infinite multiverse. Basically, it claims that in an infinite set of probability all things that can occur must occur. This means that in at lease one universe that God must exist. This does not say what God may be like. If God exists in one universe God may exist in all universes. There is also an argument from evolution. Perhaps God is nothing more than a universal consciousness which has an influence in every things life. Dr. Carl Jung talked about the "collective unconscious" He claimed that an archetypal field. which was common to all races, caused us to live through these archetypes. We are talking about the "inner child, hero, father, mother, etc." Do I believe that Jesus exists, yes. I can belief that and not have any affiliation with religion. So I believe that what ever my consciousness is will continue after my body dies.

If you do, and even if you don't, if you could imagine such a place, what mental image do you have? In other words, what would you like it to be?

OK supposing there was a place where after death a conscious whatever was going to experience an eternity. I'd want all memories of what took place everyday to be erased at the end of everyday. I'd want fresh experiences each new day.

It would be difficult to imagine not having my memories. Memories are what help us locate ourselves in reality from moment to moment. Also, my memories have helped me change my life in very positive ways. I wouldn't want to repeat my past. In heaven, my assumption would be that there is no time. In an eternity the concept of time would be useless. So, there would be no new days. What I like very much with your idea is that it implies innocence, and therefore bliss. I have experience bliss once in my life. It was wonderfull.

My belief is that we are ships in the night passing each other.

Eventually the Earth will be consumed by our sun and everything will be fried to a crisp.

So we will have eternity as ashes floating in space forever.

I also believe that there are no other planets like Earth out there and I believe Earth and humans are a fluke in the universe.

The Earth and humans just happen to be in the right place at the right time.

Everyone knows that the earth will burn in billions of years. So we won't have to worry about floating as ashes for a long time. What we believe about other planets is completely open to conjecture because there are literally trillions of planets out there. We already know that earth and people would not exist if the universe was created even a fractional part differently.
None of this precludes the possibility of heaven. I try to imagine that I will go to sleep and never be conscious again. I guess that is possible . But, I cannot sustain that belief for a variety of reasons. If life has no meaning beyond itself why do we invent morals and ongoingly attempt to improve ourselves spiritually? It makes no sense. What I know for sure is that evolution causes things to attempt to survive. Ultimately, that means evolution must have a goal of immortality. Another question is: "why does the universe need evolution?" The universe gets along just fine with rocks, dust, planets and galaxies. The universe must have had the probability of evolution from the moment of the big bang. Without potential and probability evolution wouldn't exist. Why do we value love, altruism, honesty, kindness? These are spiritual concepts. Do these concepts have survival value? Without spirituality we should be OK with just killing one another. There is a lot of that going on. But without spirituality there would be no reason to stop it.
